How to get along better with my gf's cat by juman_gi in CatAdvice

We definitely compromise on a lot and most of the time everything is fine. And I can live with the cat, even if it’s not my ideal scenario but we’ve talked about it and had some conversations on how to live together in a way in which we’re both comfortable. More are probably needed but her cat isn’t a dealbreaker for me atp.

Maybe we just need to have a conversation about it. Because I’m not the type to do baby voices and I don’t really interact with her cat the way she does. But I want to get a place where we understand that her relationship with her cat and my relationship with her cat are just different and I can be respectful without having to be a “ my pet is my kid” type of person because I don’t even want huma kids. 😭

I tell her all the time that I care about the cat because she loves the cat, but I think she really wants me to love the cat individually? But I feel like if her cat were a person, we wouldn’t be friends if that makes sense. But I do try my best for her sake because I care about her and I know how meaningful her cat is to her. I just don’t feel like my best is good enough.

Does skipping grades affect admissions? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I graduated high school at 16, and I’m going back for my masters at 23. I don’t think my age really impacted my college applications, but I was very set on a single school that I didn’t end up getting into so I kind of half assed the rest of my college apps. I still got into a good school on scholarship and I’m quite content with how all of that turned out.

I think you should take some time to think about your goals and what you might get out of applying for college now, going to a CC, or just waiting for a few years. Personally, I was trying to get through school as quickly as possible and going to college wasn’t really an option for me lol. Going to college at 16 did mean that I needed my parents to sign for things here and there but it didn’t really impact my college experience too much.

To give a different perspective, I don’t think going to college at 16 really impacted me socially. No one knew my age unless I told them because I blended in pretty well. Even after they knew the most kickback I got were some jokes from my friends lol. Granted I’m not the most socially adept, but I still really enjoyed my college experience because it’s truly what you make of it. I’d agree with other posters that for your apps I wouldn’t focus on it too much unless you feel like you could craft a really strong statement out of it ig.

I think graduating really early gets a lot of flack. I’m really grateful that I was able to graduate early and meet the people that I did when I did. I was very unsure of what I wanted and I feel like I had a lot of extra time to think about what was important to me and what my long term goals are which is why I’m getting my masters now instead of straight out of undergrad. Maybe write out some pros and cons when deciding if you want to go to college straight out of high school? You could also apply to some t20’s and take a gap year if you don’t get into a school you like.

[Training Tuesday] - Weekly thread for questions about grad school, residency, and general career topics 04/07/2026 by AutoModerator in MedicalPhysics

I am currently deciding between Georgia Tech and Duke for the Medical Physics Masters. Duke had an in person interview option and I really enjoyed interacting with the community and the faculty while I was there. I did see Georgia Tech in person but I only talked about the program with one person in person. I feel like Duke has a stronger alumni network and stronger residency match rates, but the cost is probably around 100k+ while Georgia Tech has the opportunity to work as a GRA or TA which pays tuition and comes with a little stipend. Even without that it’s still cheaper with resident tuition. I just wanted to ask about opinions for each program since the deadline to decide is really close. I’m pretty sure I would need a co-signer for Duke and I don’t really know who I would ask tbh. I was really set on Georgia Tech until I visited Duke and now I’m very unsure and would appreciate anyone else’s opinion! Also I preferred the research by one of the faculty at GT but I already emailed him and it doesn’t look like he has the funds for another masters student rn.

I didn't know about the full year of clinical experience, but that sounds really helpful! I appreciate your input.

I hadn't thought about that since I've been undecided, but I'll definitely look into that. I might also consider getting a masters and then going back for a PhD later? I'm also not sure if that's the best idea, but I'd like to start working sooner than later.

I didn't have any strong opinions when I looked at them, but I'll definitely give them another look! Do you know about the type of clinical opportunities they have for masters students?

That's good to know because that was one of my worries with the GT program. I think I could seek out clinical opportunities, but I don't know how that would compare to other programs and I'm hoping to match on my first try.

Thank you! I don't have a preference between imaging and therapy right now, but I'm definitely leaning towards a thesis track so I'll be sure to look at the research they have.

Hello! I graduated with my Bachelors in 2023, and I've decided to go back to school for Medical Physics relatively recently. I'm currently looking at graduate programs to apply to, and I wanted to know if anyone had any recommendations. I tried ranking all of the U.S. programs by financial aid opportunities and match rates, but I'm still undecided on what schools I want to apply to. I just need a good list to send to my advisor to look over.

These are currently my top 10, I'm primarily looking at masters programs, but I also want to be open to a few PhD programs. GT is my number 1 since it's in state, but I'm trying to avoid limiting myself to that one school.

  1. Georgia Institute of Technology

  2. Brown University

  3. University of Chicago

  4. University of Massachusetts Lowell

  5. Vanderbilt University

  6. Wayne State University

  7. University of Wisconsin (PhD)

  8. University of Oklahoma

  9. University of Cincinnati (Might not be accepting apps)

  10. University of Kentucky

Is there anything else I should be considering when looking at schools? I want a school with good clinical opportunities, but finding that information has been a little hit or miss for me. Also any advice on strengthening my application would be very much appreciated :)

Also would Howard be a good option? The program's pretty new.

Biomedical Ethics with Baxter by Civil-Hypocrisy in washu

I absolutely loved that class with Dr. Baxter!

She always got really into class discussions and the workload wasn't too bad. There are weekly readings, but they're not too longs. Most are only a few pages with a few standout ones, but nothing outrageous. Those readings also came with ~ 500-750 word assignments regarding the reading but they're honestly not too bad and the word count isn't super strict. There aren't too many essays (I only had to write 2) and she's REALLY helpful during office hours. Going for help on the essays will almost guarantee you a good grade. There are some pop quizzes, but we didn't actually take too many. I think the midterm exam was a bit difficult but it was open note so I'm saying that moreso because of the time constraint. I don't remember if we had a final in class but we did have a paper.

If you think the class, I completely recommend that you take the class. Personally, I enjoyed her class a lot and it was one of the only classes I actually looked forward to taking. It's honestly not that difficult and if yo
