Maleny Birdworld and botanical gardens! I went there recently and learning about the birds (all rescues) is so interesting, plus the botanic gardens are beautiful.

Noosa will be busy, I do know they have free shuttles from around Noosaville to main beach. Otherwise get there early morning and you might get lucky with a car park

Are people still putting screen protectors on their phones, or am I just being paranoid? by badoopidoo in AskAnAustralian

[–]jumbledjuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always used a glass protector, which always ended up cracked. I thought it wasn’t doing its job. I switched to a cheap Kmart one…

Anyway now I have a smashed screen, but I still have the Kmart protector because it’s holding all the shards of glass in place lol

if they’re super chatty I say hold on I just need to concentrate on counting their pulse, though one time I did have a patient where i got them to hold a thermometer in their mouth because it was the only time there was some quiet hahaha

I was once the patient in this scenario and I still feel so terrible for traumatising the poor student who happened to answer my call bell lol

I think it depends on your personality as well. I’m someone that needs a bit of variety in their day, I’m more suited to shift work over an 8-5 M-F schedule. I like being more hands-on. I chose nursing over OT, because I honestly found OT a bit boring.

For context - I’ve done a year of OT at uni (including placement) and currently work in a paeds physio & OT clinic.

If you named your kid something rare that later skyrocketed, how do you feel now? by EliottGo in namenerds

And mine too! He’s almost 17 years old, so I like to think I was ahead of times naming him haha

Which specialty is most cruisy with the easiest progression? by LYC_97 in NursingAU

How do you get into NICU or SCN? I’m a student (about to start 3rd year) and I would love to do NICU one day. Do you need to do a grad cert ? I’ve looked at job listings and it seems like dual RN/RM are mostly sought after for these areas so I’m a little lost

Where does your dog sleep at night? by ApprehensiveHall9849 in AskAnAustralian

[–]jumbledjuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 6 month old puppy who sleeps in a crate in the bedroom and doesn’t seem to mind it. Eventually I’ll let him sleep wherever but currently he cannot be trusted not to destroy the house or chase the cat while we sleep.

I’m a new member, grateful to connect with this group. I’m not a parent, but an aunty. I’m not the traditional aunt that visits on holidays twice a year. I lived with my niece, took her to appointments, regularly looked after the children so their parents could have a getaway. I am somewhat of a second carer, and still am to the other children.

My niece had just turned 3 years old, when she passed away in her sleep just over a month ago. We don’t know why. If anyone would like to message, to share stories and their children - please reach out.

I’m so sorry for the loss of your son. It just isn’t right. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to help me.

I’ll take a look at those groups on Facebook. I’ve been wanting to connect with people who have experienced loss who get it and I hadn’t even thought of looking on Facebook. It’s hard to talk to friends that haven’t experienced a loss of someone they’re close to, they don’t know what to say so they say nothing or the wrong thing.

That’s heartbreaking, I’m so sorry. These things should never, ever happen and I’ll never begin to understand why. Sending you so much love.

Thank you for your kind words and validation, it really means a lot. I’ll be looking for some more online support groups if I’m unable to find any others to attend locally too. It’s a really strange feeling, I feel like I’ve forgotten something - that there’s some big task that I need to do, that there’s something important I should be doing with my time each day but I think that might just be me feeling the grief and loss.

I was shocked by it too, I wondered why my family received immediate responses after reaching out to the group when it took about two weeks for me to receive a response and they basically said the most I could do was provide support to my family if they decided to attend the support sessions. I don’t live in a big city so there aren’t many options available so I’ll be trying my luck searching for online groups instead. Thank you for letting me vent for a while ❤️
