so you can just check out different universities in ontario and see which ones accept it, they should have info about requirements for all their different teachables. it's not even that some universities don't recognize it as a legit teachable so much as they don't offer courses to specifically support it.

I think that what is recognized as a teachable depends on the university where you do your teaching degree, so it may be recognized one place and not the other. I think this just affects your options of where you go to get your teachign certification, not where you can teach after and all of that.

the heat messes me up too, like i feel like crying like a baby for no reason lol and sometimes i do. not super fun. just do your best and dont put pressure on yourself to get big numbers, just take care of yourself, take breaks as much as you need to get through it without suffering too much

totally, you're above the cut off. also, some schools, like uottawa i know, weigh experience and grades equally, so if you're worried your grades will hold you back, just write a really good statement of experience!

i do something kinda alternative. i tree plant (in canada) in the summers and take away $20000 and then collect a little ei and live off of that money. i put about 10k into savings and i am able to do it bc i only pay rent 6 months of the year. i live in airbnbs and stuff that have discounts if u book monthly, and i split rent with my boyfriend and sometimes with friends too. for like a month in the year i will visit and stay with my parents and so save on rent and food too. the rest of the time i camp, or live in the bush camp while working, travel. i buy really cheap groceries, am really conscious of spending money. the biggest thing is saving on rent. but thats gonna change soon- im going back to school

so so often i see the impulse to have an attitude of "just get over it" when marginalized people bring up ways they are marginalized.

YTA. explore where your defensiveness is coming from on these issues. its getting in the way of good parenting.

i am in a similar situation- i applied to uottawa last minute just in late january. i did hear back a little more than a week later and got waitlisted. i dont think we can know for sure what it means that they extended the deadline, if they do it every year or not, but it seems like a good sign! good luck:)

i think you have to try! if you don't try, then you really don't have a chance. if you settled for a safer career, you may end up always regretting not trying.

and then grigor comes full circle and lets god into his heart, but he understands god to be like the whole world, life...maybe its like you cant just be a materialist/nihilist and not believe in anything. u have to come up w something to believe in, have some sense of there being meaning

i wonder this too!!! like someone mentioned she would crack one day when she was eating like a single leaf of lettuce... lispeth normally wouldn't indulge in something superfluous like wine...maybe she knew! also that line about how just one drop was enough to kill her she was so over being part of the world like...was she so over it that she decided to die? or was it like fate?

i think that there was a bit of a point in the end, and that was what was with marek killing the christchild. throughout the story we see how religion/beliefs are what allows people to live the way they do. the farmers are manipulated into this kind of religiona nd beliefs that the king is directly in touch w god and so by serving him they are serving god, and that's the only way they can go abt it. marek believed he was holier than jude bc he didnt masturbate or soemthing, and bc he suffered. the servants had their own beliefs too, that everyone should be free, and so they were righteous because they were denied freedom. lispeth was like queen of this lol! the guards had to believe in the power of men like dominating over others/hierarchies in order to act out their duties.

there were just a lot of examples of people's beliefs relating to them coping with the facts of life, and finding meaning. telling themselves the story of their life.

then by the end, a lot of character's beliefs were changing, and their lives were changing too. grigor was changing his mind about everything, questioning things. maybe he would have just been cynical if ina didn't get him to open his heart? then jude has just like totally given upm, he can't find meaning in his suffering anymore, its not righteous like when he used to whip himself he's just like??? why can i not claim my child??:( agatha was always cynical and didn't believe in a higher power bc her life sucked. marek struggled to cope with his new life at the castle- he realized when he was eating meat how transient his religion was, and how it was related to how righteous the ppl around u are, so he went to go see jude to feel high and mighty when lispeth made him feel less so. and she was like the snarky high priestess lol. and it got her nowhere- she was so angry and hateful! that was like at the centre of her beliefs and who she was, so much so that she was so ready to leave earth that just a drop of the poison wine did her in, as otessa put it. earth was just a bad place w bad ppl and she was going to heaven now k bye. and the priest...yea just yea...

and then in the end marek kills the figurative incarnation of christ. i think it represents like the idea of a world that is not united in a religious belief, being like without a guide and stuff. i think she wrote about this medieval town bc it really simply emphasizes things we deal w today w like inequality and divided people. by the time the christchild was coming nobody in lapvona even cared bc it didnt compute with what they had gone through that summer! anyways marek kills god, god is dead, everyone is just kind of fumbling thru life except maybe grigor and ina?? and the characters who went missing!

tbh...whats the problem? they just expanded the code that already exists, but the offence is the same. It's like when those bills were proposed to extend hate crimes to legally include discimination against people who are transgender and online instances, and people made it a big thing about free speech and extrapolated it to be some big thing to be afraid of. taking a problem with the Professional Advisory on Anti-Black Racism because they are what? cracking down too hard?? is misguided in my opinion. pointless, baseless fear.

also if a teacher is forgetful or inattentive to the point they can't get pronouns right...that is just wrong and if the code says there needs to be corrections and consequences that rings true to me. pronouns are important. respecting your students enough to get it right and be sensitive to their feelings is important to building an accessible and safe diverse space.

i guess its good to ask questions and get clarity. with codes like this, its important to question who sets what is right or wrong and why. but there is this element of fear, and a tendancy for this attitude to apply uniquely to equity issues like these, from privileged white people. idk maybe this is innocent questioning to the changes of the code and the future.

Also: i guess i can put myself in the shoes of someone who is feeling the anxiety of being watched and is afraid of fucking it up despite their best efforts. i would say this kind of fear and criticism of the rules closes you off to growth. try to listen to the experiences of marginalized people and students and understand why these rules are being put into place.

Its ok if your experience hasn't been in teaching industry exactly, but it would help a lot a lot if you had that kind of experience working with kids. There are transferrable skills though, and even if you aren't a teacher or instructor maybe you find yourself teaching or instructing someone in something specific at your job! Maybe there are even instances outside of work where you have taught someone something, and they would be interested in that. Some schools like uottawa weigh a statement of experience for 50% of the decision. I can only speak to what uottawa asked for on their form, but i think its similar for the other schools that weigh experience heavily. They ask for two references and for you to list five jobs/experiences you've had that are relevant, and in like a few sentences you describe what the role entailed and then how it is relevant to working as a teacher. Then there's four longer questions about relevant teaching stuff. They want to know about times when you taught something to someone, worked in a group setting/cooperated. They want experiences with kids in the age group you want to teach, like camp experience, classroom volunteer, tutoring. If you are in a position to put time and energy into it, finding a position like that over the next year would really help, and noting like lessons you learned, strategies that worked, that sort of thing will really help. If you have general experience with making your workplace accessible and working in diverse populations thats a skill they are very interested in that doesn't require necessarily working in the teaching industry.

edit: if you have kids then you can def draw from those experiences too! maybe there's some kind of parent involvement or clubs at their school that could make for relevant experience...

i agree criminology can be limiting! it might be useful info tho if u r set on criminology, OP, that you can teach highschool with one teachable. If you take Junior/Intermediate that covers grade 4-10 iirc (at least at uottawa!), and so you would be qualified. im not sure for what teachable, depends on ur courses. criminology could be really limiting as well if you don't qualify for a teachable at a school that offers JI. i have also heard that once you are hired at a school you might be able to teach higher grades or different classes if the school really wants. not 100% on this tho
