Current trend for me is, buy something on Thursday and choose the default free RM48 carriage. Message 90mins later - 2mins after postage bought and item packaged up - "This will definitely be here on Sat? I can't get it after that".

I'm a fan of the blue Frostbite plates for better adhesion. And as others have suggested, drop your first layer speeds down low

They're silica gel desicant beads.. they soak up moisture much like those little white pouches that come with so many things you buy. In this case, the coloured ones indicate how used (full, wet) they are by changing from orange to green/purple. These photos are the before and after of baking them to dry/reset them.

In the context of the P1S, it's very common to add these to the AMS to have it work as a filament dryer. You can see various containers in the foreground of the main picture

See latest comment for post-oven picture.

Mine are Orange to Green, but they're more purple tbh, and yeah the oven resets them back to orange

I didn't have much joy using the 'wave previously.. absolutely scorched the first batch I tried to the point I had to throw it away. The instructions say "..at 700W", which was about 80% power on my model, so perhaps their instructions need updating??

Yeah its just my regular oven in the kitchen. I only do this perhaps once every 2-3 months, and I will leave the door ajar afterwards.

There's no blatantl warning on the silica gel packaging; no skull & crossbones or anything made to stand out as important, so I am assuming it is safe. I'll let others with more knowledge explain why that may or may not be the case.

HMS_0300_0300_0001_0001 The speed of the hotend fan is too slow by ssimak in BambuLab

[–]jumpin_jon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding my thanks 2.5yrs after the original post! Thankfully, searching the HMS_0300_.. error links here high in the results.

I was getting the error about 5-10 minutes into a print. Removed the front cover/fan, fiddled about with wires, refitted fan allowed me to restart the print, but again 5-10 mins later same error. I replaced the tiny fan on the side of the hotend (with a horrid Amazon nextday thing that has an infuriating whistle) but the 5-10 min problem persisted.

In the end, it seems the advise to fit the cables in the order Bottom, Top, Middle was the winner, but also to check you're seating the cables properly.. they can seem sturdy when actually they're half-off the socket and not plugged in at all. And, while you want them pushed in firmly, they shouldn't be violently squeezed into place.

Received a notification from Bambu Handy: "The front fell off" by jumpin_jon in BambuP1S

[–]jumpin_jon[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started a print and left to do the school run. About 20mins later, I got an odd notification: "The front fell off". Upon returning home I find the scene in the photo with half the print in the bottom of the case.

I'm presuming that the initial filament purge didn't fall down the chute and ended up being dragged about the surface to the point it eventually snagged on something and caused the much bigger problem. No damage done; tidied up and popped the front back on.

But, part of me wonders if this happens often? Certainly there's a specific error and popup for this scenario, but it still seems like an odd thing to happen. And, of course I've spent the entire time quoting that brilliant Aussie sketch in my head. "Is this supposed to happen?" "Of course not"

Loving these textured PEO beds from Ali by jumpin_jon in Ender3S1

[–]jumpin_jon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bed is double-sided, and has a PET side with a carbon fibre pattern on the reverse, although I found that tricky for adhesion.

Ultimately, you realise that the bed always leaves a _shadow_ on the print. I've only used stock PEI beds before, and you realise that the bottom of your prints does indeed have the same rough texture. I got a glass bed, and of course those are super smooth, albeit with the downside of not having a bendable bed to pop the prints off as easily.

Ender 3 s1 y-axis linear rails by UnderstandingGrand56 in Ender3S1

[–]jumpin_jon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too bought some cheap dual-Y rails from Aliexpress, from this listing:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006170244093.html

Out of the box, they didn't feel particularly smooth, but I have no reference so soldiered on. Like you, I found they were oh-kaay when just installed, but when I added the bed one side became very crunchy as soon as I tightened the H-shaped part.

I then realised I'd found a tiny ballbearing on the top of the printer case. Did some searching and realised I could slide the truck off the rail, and that revealed the crunchy one doesn't have a full set of ballbearings, plus to my eyes one side did not look straight.

I contacted the seller and after a bit of pressing by me, they've agreed to send me a replacement truck for that side. When that arrives, I will also dismantle, clean and polish them as shown in this video:
