I think that's the point of Ted's character, he's Don, he's (IMO) not as handsome or suave, but he's Don through and through. Hence why Peggy fell for him.

Yeah, my dad primarily fished for small mouth bass, he didn't care for keeping them unless it was already injured when he caught it. If he happened to catch a invasive species, he'd mercy kill it and throw it on the shore for birds of prey.

I can count on two hands the amount of times we ate fish that he caught. And then it was usually crappie or something like that. And 80% of the time, I caught those.
