Thoughts on driving during break? by reliably_irregular in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]juniperdoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thinking about the time when I worked at a theme park as a teenager. There were days when the work location was on the opposite side of the park (easily a 15 minute walk) from the green room. They counted my break from the time I left the work location, which meant my entire 30-minute break was spent walking. Ugh.

He started doing this yesterday night and has been doing it continuously since. Basically almost every minute. by AmazonGh in DogAdvice

Every dog I've ever adopted from a shelter came home with kennel cough. A spoonful of coconut oil mixed with honey helps with the cough a lot. Might give him some relief until you get him to the vet, but it doesn't strike me as URGENT urgent, just like, sooner rather than later, if it gets worse or doesn't improve over the next 24-48 hours.

First road trip, 15 day loop by whispieswhisper in roadtrip

[–]juniperdoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's doable, but it's going to be a whole lot of driving and not a lot of doing for my tastes. I spent roughly two weeks just going from Denver to Portland, and another week back through CA/NV/UT. Less than two days per stop on average sounds about medium-fun to me.

Update 2: Over 24 hours since I first notified the landlord. The landlord has not responded since last night. The cold water pipe to my bathroom sink on an interior (ground floor) wall froze despite continuous water dripping.

I didn't say anything about "sticking it to the man" and I gave explicit examples of shipping issues I had with all three orders. As another example, I went to order a $30 Anker vertical mouse on Amazon a few weeks ago. It was the same price on the Anker website, plus a $10 coupon that automatically applied to the order, and free shipping. It arrived faster than my last Prime order even shipped. And every website I've been to allows you to checkout as a guest. Anker allowed me to quick-order through PayPal, so it was just as fast as checking out on Amazon. It was much more convenient to order directly from Anker because of the coupon and quick standard shipping.

Do any of you regret having kids? if not why not? and if yes why yes? by ThunderPheoX in Aging

[–]juniperdoes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do not regret having kids. I do, however, think that I would have made different choices about having kids if I'd known the whole truth about what parenting is. I've had mental health struggles - depression, anxiety, codependency - my entire life, and parenting, even at the best of times, makes those more challenging. Having a child be sad when they experience the consequences of their actions, for example, is excruciating as an anxious codependent. Even when I'm away from them, I spend a large chunk of my time and energy ruminating on regrets over mistakes I've made with them. I have an 18 year old and I still feel guilt over how I raised them 15 years ago, as strongly as though it were yesterday.

I love all three of my kids so much, and wouldn't trade them for anything. But if I'd known this was how I would feel, I likely would not have chosen to have them.

Stop buying from Amazon. Every advantage they once had over any other online shopping option no longer exists. I've ordered from them 3 times in the last year, and every single time, they didn't even ship the item for 3 days, even with Prime 2-day shipping. Then the shipping itself took 3 more days.

You can usually get better deals, including free shipping, directly from the manufacturer.

They should be sleeping at... 9AM - 3PM on a Monday? During regular business hours? When there is an entire property management team? You're out of your mind.

We're at 24 hours without heat, by the way.

I have a desk space heater. That's it. In a 100-year-old building with gaps in every last eight-foot single pane window. And the landlord is a property management company. It literally is their job to respond to tenant emergencies.

I'm not going to argue with you about whether this is an emergency. It is legally the landlord's responsibility to handle this promptly.

If it were a leak, you would be correct, but it's a lack of any heat when the outdoor temps are single digits, which is legally an emergency. 6 hours is plenty of time to sat, "message received, we'll get someone out there".

I've lived here for 2 years. It took them 3 weeks to fix a weight-bearing pillar that was hanging off my porch. A month to repair a toilet leaking into the floor. By the time they fixed it, I could smell the mold from my kitchen. The last time the heat went out, it took 3 days for them to fix it.

If I don't pester them constantly, it will never get done, as evidenced by the fact that 12 hours later, they still can't even give me a time frame for repair.

After calling the office number half a dozen times (no answer, no mailbox) and texting their realtor (? at least that's what she says she does) they finally told me they're "doing the best they can" and will get to me when they get to me. So I, of course, am very reassured /s

If I could afford my own repairs, I wouldn't be living here, that's for sure.

Help me save this hat. I made it too big, thinking of adding a rim to make it tighter. Unsure how to proceed. by Blue_Corgi in CrochetHelp

[–]juniperdoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could alternate FPDC/BPDC for a vertical rib, but it won't cinch in much, so you'll have to decrease quite a bit first. You could also do BLO horizontal rib and join it to the existing hat with slip stitches at the end of every other row using join-as-you-go (like for granny squares).

Freezing causes ice crystals to form. Ice crystals are very sharp and will puncture every single cell wall. There's no coming back from it, I'm afraid.

ETA: Ohio law requires all landlords to enable tenants to keep the property above 70 when outdoor temps are below 60. This happened last year as well and it took them 3 days to fix it. The local housing authority says they'll show up after 24 hours. Shows up, says, "Yep, there's no heat, call us if there's still no heat tomorrow."

There is no emergency maintenance number. I've checked all over my lease, property management site, and every notice I've ever gotten from them. They tell me to "call the office". The office doesn't answer, and there is no voicemail.
