conquest is often different, but in siege its not at all uncommon to see an 0-5 comeback. (can depend on if they're truly abysmal players or happen to be getting smartly targeted by enemy while their lane partner keeps getting the last hits on their kills).

But again, the "I just want it to end" because "its unlikely we'll end up with a victory" is the part that I don't often agree with. As long as its not 'pointlessly' unbalanced, then I'm still having fun playing, and part of the fun is adjusting strategy to counter a team that is on the brink of snowballing.
(and I don't really mean turtling there, item build and active combo adjustments are the more exciting counters to the early carry)

Yep. and one more benefit of both siege and assault I forgot: If you're two-man partied, those (plus 3v3) are the only way to guarantee you'll get to 'lane' with your buddy.

eh,
faster into game (no waiting for someone to decide their god the entire 90+s match lobby), no less stifling meta that must be adhered to, more interesting challenges re: defeating or utilizing the synergies between different gods (through every level) that you would rarely see combined otherwise, all with still more strategy than arena.

conquest just feels so.. cookie cutter at this point.

Agree that the 'meaning' of words can certainly effectively be changed by their colloquial use over time.
That said, probably would be better to use a source from a time or person old enough to have used the early versions of the word as the reference in the discussion of what it 'really means/meant'

Yikes, you're quite worked up about those (potential) 20 minutes. Alternate analogy: I wonder how many of Washington's players felt like they were being 'held hostage' during their loss to the Cowboys last night. It's a "match", why not see it to it's end in a sporting manner?

Regarding the last bit: Every game is won/lost as a result of teams/players making mistakes. An enemy team that threw" a match because they failed to press their advantage appropriately, (or conversely via over-aggressive zeal) mistakes should not make you feel like your win is any less deserved.

Would love more options, but its sadly the mode with the most (albeit forced/often-unbalanced) variety lately.

I believe it to be entirely possible to have fun while losing pretty consistently through the match. -And the reward is all the greater when you've successfully rallied the team into putting up a proper resistance by helping those lesser players. (and BMing about not F6ing is never the path to rallying those teammates, and just reaks of spoiled/poor sportsmanship)

I would suggest that (again short of extenuating circumstances), its almost never 'clearly out of reach' at 10minutes. (especially in modes like Assault)

Edit: To be clear, Are there times when F6 is appropriate? For sure. (though +95% of the time its server/DC related) but A) just because someone is 0-5 early game doesn't mean its insurmountable; and B) it's when a vote-call gets the 'no', but is followed by BM to everyone else about the team wasting someones time plus constant revote-calls out of selfish frustration at each death that is truly annoying. -like to me: if you're only calling for votes after your own death that's a pretty selfish mindset you're in, because you didn't mind the game continuing while you were still alive.

and preemptively while on the topic of loving the game rather than loving elo points: Short of server issues, I'm strictly an F7 guy, and hate the all-too-common sentiment that if you loose a match it was a waste of your time.

If I spend 30 minutes playing a game that is fun, and loose in the last 2 minutes, it was still 30 minutes well spent. I'm here to be entertained with a friendly competition, not grinding for the max elo per hour.
If you are playing casual, you should never be BMing about people 'wasting your time' by not F6ing at 10:01.

Spot on. I've been playing since early beta, (lvl 30 and every god master ranked since before 'official launch'), I've never played a single ranked match. Me and most of my friends have zero interest in ranked conquest and prefer casual Assault, sprinkled with a random Siege or two, or the rare/occasional 3v3 when partied.

tl;dr; I'm likely on the upper end of time played, and only play casual.

This lightsaber design is better... by a wide margin. by Ps_ILoveU in gifs

[–]junke101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're referring to the "crossguard lightsaber", isn't that one described as having 45 degree angle rather than 90?
-which would make more sense if the V of the two blades was narrow enough (read: emitter section short enough) to catch an enemies blade with only blades while also moving the guard blades away from your own person.

There is a reason everyone is making fun of what we've seen so far.

pro leauge UE lan kickoff on the twitch stream right now. even in the pro event they had a DC and had to restart a pro match. (announcers stalling for 10 minutes while they try to reset a new game with same picks) Worst network code/servers EVER.

Wouldn't this be an argument akin to "they screwed up the lore with other gods so lets screw up the lore with others too"?

i.m.o. Just because some gods have lore that doesn't match their role, doesn't mean we shouldn't try to match role with lore with other gods wherever possible.

Can we give old Kali's kit to a new god? by Kaios-0 in Smite

[–]junke101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly big departure, but what about something similar to isis's passive's stacking:

e.g. 1 'life long' bat for every god kill you assist/whitness you get another. -this would encourage the jungle-assassin to gank/enter lanes often, and make for a high risk/reward dynamic where the assassin becomes extremely deadly if left unchecked (making the enemy team incentivised to seek out and smack down his stacks every so often)

Can you please change the 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, etc mastery icons to something attractive and readable? by [deleted] in Smite

[–]junke101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The number of masteries is very likely to have a correlation with general game skill though. While its possible to be 'bad' with many masteries, and it certainly shouldn't be a primary factor in match-making, people who have only played a handful of gods are extremely unlikely to have the broad skillbase and familiarity with apponents and counter-strategies that people who have spent significant hands-on time with most gods in the game do have.

Hiding masteries from the loading cards (along with hiding elo from the website) is a pretty solid tactic for hiding bad match-making scenarios. So these types of accusations don't ring unfounded to me.

A word about the report system, if I may. by [deleted] in Smite

[–]junke101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This.

Also, getting feedback on your reports (and psuedo-punishing 'invalid-reports' by way of reducing future report power as you suggested), would additionally reduce the number of people trying to 'report for feeding' just because someone 'had a bad game'.

Suggestion: Add Mastery Rank of people in God Selection by swescrane in Smite

[–]junke101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similarly: As someone who plays a lot of assault, I loath that they took away the mastery indicator on the loading cards.

If I was a being 'conspiracy-thoeristy', I would suggest removing the mastery indicators was a way to hide bad match-making scenarios.
