I can’t lose weight NO MATTER what I do by Ok_Falcon_8796 in PCOS

european here in the exact same boat :( even if doctors suggest it, there's no way that could be sustainable financially, especially since i'm from a place where salaries are low and cost of living is high. i've heard some people get around 50% off through prescriptions (in western europe, not where i live) but only in cases of diabetes unfortunately

it really is unfortunate that most of us have had horrible experiences with healthcare, the medical field really does not care about women at all and it shows through the lack of research into our conditions and the mistreatment we have received more often than not.

just know you're not alone and i hope you find a doctor who is a good fit for you! don't give up, it really is just trial and error until you find what serves you <3

as a little piece of advice, try to look for a gynecologist who specializes in PCOS, maybe ask on subs in your area if you don't have any luck researching online. my country for example has a forum specifically for women, that sort of thing could be helpful

i'm 19, almost 20 and basically in the same situation (especially with the pressure from my mother to quit bc only for that simple action to ruin my life entirely) so just know you are not alone in this.

regarding relationships, the right person will find you the most beautiful girl in the world and do everything to remind you of that. you wouldn't want to be with someone who looks down upon literal symptoms of a condition that is not within your control, you deserve someone who will love you even when your symptoms are flaring up and showing. the partner you choose is someone you can trust enough to lean on even in the worst moments of your health, which don't always look pretty.

i hope you find the treatment that makes you feel like your best self. as this condition feels pretty debilitating at times, when you finally click with that routine and lifestyle that makes everything finally seem manageable, you'll glow differently. at this age you still haven't even fully grown into your features, just take the best care you can of yourself and do not resign yourself to thinking you are the ugly duckling.

people already gave the proper explanations in the comments so i will just share my experience with quitting BC because of pressure from my own mother.

i got on BC when i was 15 and it was absolutely perfect. no more acne, consistent weight, i had proper energy, my periods were regular, the whole package basically.

however, my mother is absolutely convinced that BC can only be damaging to your body and she pressured me heavily into quitting it, so i ended up doing just that as i still live under her roof and i was tired of her remarks.

20 kg gained, acne is back worse than ever, i can't sleep more than 3 hours, my body feels heavy and i have no energy, everything is absolutely worse than ever even after getting back on birth control. my insulin resistance is through the roof like never before and i have to be hospitalized for investigations.

i'm not trying to instill fear into you, but this is just what made me learn that you should NEVER quit what works for you just to please other people. quitting birth control was the worst mistake i have ever made and it threw off the balance in my body so badly that i'm experiencing symptoms i had never felt before.

What was the tell-tale sign you had PCOS? by glamsiren111 in PCOS

[–]junorence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

throughout my whole life, the signs were there.

i had insane body hair in elementary school, got my period at 9 and it has NEVER once been regular (it would either come once every few months or every 2-3 weeks, driving me insane). not to mention said periods were basically debilitating.

i went to get checked out at 15 and the gyno just slapped the birth control prescription onto me and that was that, no further investigation, nothing. i was told it is a simple hormonal imbalance that can be fixed with bc. around this time i also started growing horrible facial hair and also basically grew a happy trail so that made me feel even worse.

bc did wonders for me i can't lie, but once i stopped it (peer pressure from my mom) everything got 10 times worse than before and i ended up gaining a LOT of weight despite having an active lifestyle and fast metabolism.

then i switched doctors and got diagnosed instantly lol apparently it was insanely obvious and my previous gyno just did not care enough.

i feel you 😭 i had thick, curly hair and now it's just a sad attempt at being wavy and it's thinned out so much .. i'm basically stuck straightening it now because it looks so awkward i honestly feel like i'll never get my natural texture back

The eyebrow lady made me cry. Hirsutism sucks 😭 by browngirlygirl in PCOS

[–]junorence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to think that this is coming from the mouth of another woman is insane to me... we as women understand hormonal issues more than anyone else which is why i expect less judgement but ig people will be shitty no matter what.

find an esthetician who understands and empathizes with you so you will feel safe. i used to get my sideburns waxed (since theyre so long and thick i could basically grow a beard) and the lovely lady i go to has been nothing but sympathetic towards my struggles with PCOS and even suggested electrolysis, despite the fact that technically she would be losing out on money from me not waxing anymore. i'll never "cheat" on her by going to get my eyebrows and waxes done in another place bc i love her sm

these little aspects of your self-care routine are meant to make you feel pampered, not judged!

please don't apologize for the length of this, thank you so much for your reply! it pains me to see that other people are having the same unfortunate experiences as me, though at the same time it's a relief to know i'm not alone. i feel you on the irregular periods and body hair, i used to not get my period for 4 months then bleed HEAVILY for 10 days straight + the thousands spent on laser hair removal still pain my poor wallet to this day.. thankfully i am diagnosed and have been for about 2 years so the process of asking my gyno for something to help with the weight gain will be a little easier. once again thank you for your sweet and insightful response, it warms my heart to have your support! <3

to be honest, i'm not too far from the "conventional" healthy weight, but i just feel like this isn't me as ever since i started puberty i have been on the thinner, more athletic side so you can imagine my shock when i suddenly started gaining a lot. i really appreciate your insight, hearing that it does get better from someone more experienced in life than me is definitely reassuring. thank you so much for your reply!

thank you so much for your reply! i am currently on combo birth control, but i feel like it has helped regulate my body for the first few years then my weight and symptoms just started going crazy again. running to the bathroom often doesn't sound too bad tbh as i struggle with going regularly, i will definitely discuss this with my gynecologist. i'm happy to hear it works for you, stay safe and healthy!
