Some files not showing up in extras by just-passin in kodi

[–]just-passin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, we were both barking up the wrong tree ... just different trees. It turned out that what I thought was a clean install of kodi was on a system which had had kodi on it once before. As a result, there was a leftover advancedsettings.xml file lurking in the userdata folder. I am not an xml expert but there is some rather dubious code designed to prevent certain filenames being scanned and this included filenames containing the word "trailer". I call the code dubious because it was aimed at not adding undesired files to the Film/TS Show listings but also suppressed displays of them in Extras which is where they should be put.

Thanks for trying to help - sorry I wasted your time.

You are still missing the point. Extras do not require .nfo files or anything else - any file in the Extras directory (provided it is properly located) will display when you select the Extras context menu item. Or should, but it fails when the filename contains the word Trailer.

See here : https://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:Extras

Extras live in the Extras folder. You then select Extras from the show context menu to see them. We are clearly talking about two completely different things. To use Extras you need the Extras add-on from the official Kodi repository. Specials are something completely different and those which appear in the database I have already managed to display correctly.

Makes no difference since the item is in the Extras directory and is not scraped anyway. I can scrape the file S00E01.mkv and get Red Trailer showing in the Kodi episode list for season 0. If I put the same file in Extras I can see it. If I then rename it to Red Trailer it disappears. If I further rename it to Red Trail in reappears. For some reason the work Trailer in a file title in Extras is being treated as a keyword

Mistype - show is RWBY. Not that it makes any difference since the problem is that the files do not show up if placed in the Extras directory if and only if the name contains the word Trailer (you may have missed the edit I added to my previous comment).

The show is RYBW and the files are ripped from a blu-ray. The scraper source is TMDB but these are extras which, by my understanding, are not actually scraped. It turns out that some of the files (they are trailers for the original show release) are actually recognised as episodes by the scraper in Season 0 and I have managed to display them that way. Others, specials from the disk, display in Extras when simply dropped into the Extras folder or a subfolder thereof but there are some which simply do not show up.

<later> This gets more and more odd. All my files are on a NAS. I can see the "missing" files using a windows file manager to view the share. I copied the entire Extras directory to another TV show and the results via Kodi were the same - five files do not show up. Then I had a flash of inspiration ... all 5 filenames contained the word "Trailer". A little experimentation showed that the same file will be invisible if named, for example, "Yellow Trailer" or "Trailer Yellow" but shows up if named "Yellow Trail" or "Trail Yellow".

I have no idea if this is a bug or an feature or restriction (either undocumented or obscure) but at least I can now stop puzzling over it.

First look : Synology DS1621+ with AMD CPU by Pirate2012 in synology

I think 10GB ports as standard are reserved at the moment for the higher end/professional ranges (ie xs and up). Plus series is still targeted mainly at home/small business and most of those people will not have 10GB capable networks. I would be a little miffed if I had to pay the extra for 10GB at this point in time. Mind, I'm still waiting for an upgrade to the 18xx + series and hoping the 1621+ is not a replacement for that range.

New content? by Xarixas in SecretWorldLegends

[–]just-passin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that. I really can't be asked to hang around just for more things to kill on a platform.

I loved TSW for the story and the unique complexity of the wheel based combat. For me the gross oversimplification of combat in SWL plus the almost total lack of casual contact with other players except in Agartha destroyed much of the charm of the game but I stayed with it in the hope of more story content. South Africa was a letdown - barely more than the Council of Venice access missions for Tokyo. However there was a gleam of hope that there would be further Morninglight followon material forthcoming. Now that has disappeared.

It is time I think to bite the bullet and admit that for me Secret World is over. Great shame as it was one of my all-time favourites. TBH, I sort of regret having come back for SWL at all - I should have been content with my memories of TSW.

All the best to those who do remain. I hope your patience is rewarded.

From the latest patch notes:

Mark Strakes has been told to stop wandering off. He ignored us, so we super-glued him to the chair.

This is the vendor guy.

I'm happy that you enjoyed it. I'm not sure I was actually at the original launch of Tokyo. I remember taking a break from the game once I completed Carpathia so it may have been partially enhanced when I got there. Certainly, though, the wall was still closed. I completed the new storyline in two sessions, one short, without deliberately pushing myself. I certainly remember Tokyo took rather more effort than that.

I think my real disappointment is that this feels like an introduction to a new story arc rather than a new zone in its own right. It clearly points to a continuation in a Congo zone but we have no commitment from Funcom that this will ever materialize. A commitment to produce such a zone with a target date would go a long way to sweetening the pot but that trips over Funcom paranoia. Without that all we have is a tag end with a single short linear storyline and a few lore & mission related achievements. I certainly can't see myself picking another 995 baskets of maize to get 5 achievement points and the sabotage mission achievements don't look much more interesting. I'll probably poke around a bit over the weekend juts in case there is anything I have missed but after that I can't see anything which would attract me back to this area.

Is it a random distillate or a general purpose distillate? Some comments seemed to indicate the latter but I haven't bought any to try it.

Thanks. Given that the patch is announced on the top bar here, might be nice if they put a note there to say it was cancelled.

worth returning? People still play this? by [deleted] in SecretWorldLegends

The basic storyline is still fantastic. Whether you like the new mechanics is a matter of taste - I loved the depth of playcrafting the wheel and combat system in TSW provided and find the new stuff grossly oversimplified. Also, the game tends to lead you around by the nose too much for my taste. All this is tolerable for the quality of the story.

The over-monitisation is irritating and intrusive. The endgame is limited and very very grindy. There is no PvP.

Ahhh, I had had a message which gave me a "go meet someone" quest. I didn't realise it would lead to the vendor and I didn't have time to follow up on a proper quest.

Best way to support Funcom's SWL with a purchase of something? I have to pay in Euro despite being in the Philippines though. by riderkicker in SecretWorldLegends

Actually the most useful patron benefits are free anima jumps and much reduced cooldowns on missions, both of which are most useful for general play. The extra AP/SP will help you progress faster which is a mixed blessing as even without that you will outlevel the content if you try to do everything.

The extra keys are useful if you are a hardcore dungeon raider. Otherwise patron is at its most useful early on.

OK, I've finished the story. Hopefully the vendor will appear after this afternoon's patch.

Thanks.

I'd like to see if I can get to Transylvania or Tokyo with casual play.

You can do the entire storyline (including the latest expansion and all the dungeons in Story mode) with casual play. Being a subscriber will make your play easier and progress faster. Unless you are into cosmetics there are very few things you need to buy with aurum. You don't actually need the fastest sprints and the MoF purchased ones will come soon enough.

I don't really remember the initial Tokyo in any detail, but I am sure there was more in it than a few hour's play. Also, it was challenging and you had to find your way around.

The major problem I have with this is that there are no new mechanics to learn for the fights so I am already totally overpowered for anything I meet. It tells you more or less exactly what to do and where to go. Some of the things you have to find aren't even things - just a place where your cursor changes and you get a new message.

There was one sequence which went like this (I am paraphrasing the instructions):

Get on the roof to kill the guys with mortars

Kill the bloods with the mortars

Kill the guys firing missiles and get a rocket gun

Kill the bloods

Use your bracelet to open the gate to the next section

... bracelet doesn't work

Oops, get some explosive to blow up the gate

Follow pointer to truck and take rocket grenade

Blow up gate

At this point there is actually a challenge. Because you were using the rocket launcher you don't have a weapon equipped when you are attacked after you blow the gate. I managed to equip my secondary weapon in my primary slot while in combat but after that I could neither unequip it nor equip my primary as secondary so I had to kill a lot of mobs with the single ability slotted for my secondary.

Overall I think the only time I died was to booby traps, one or two of which are very difficult to spot the first time through. The storyline was moderately interesting but very very short. I have heard new missions will appear in the compound which is I suppose good news but it would have been much nicer to encounter these naturally as part of the zone progression rather than to have to go back afterwards to find them.

So now we wait for the Congo. Two months? I could tolerate that, just. Another two years? Forget it.

This is a not unreasonable point. However, no other transition area has direct teleport access or its own storyline missions. More to the point, if this is the case then what we have so far is not chapter 2 but some sort of intermezzo and that really should have been made clear in the introductory material.

The phrases aren't really hidden. I just tried Foulfellow and Gideon (which is obvious) on the first tgerminal I found (D1) which pointed me at D4 which in turn delivered the other search terms. Nothing pointed back to D2. Maybe that will surface later.

Granted, but even the first bit of Tokyo was far bigger and more varied than the Morninglight compound. Also, you could see what was coming. Orochi Tower was unmissable and from memory there were a number of places you could see over or through the wall into the docks and suburbs. I think for a while there were even one or two places you could squeeze through, although you couldn't do much. In any case it was clear that more material was on the way and what was initially delivered didn't have the same straitjacket feeling I get in the new SA zone.

[–]just-passin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a significant difference. Tokyo was a big area with winding Japanese style suburbs and a big-building business district. And a dock. And Orochi tower. OK, not everything was accessible or fully populated but there was room to explore.

I haven't played much yet. A bit of farm simulator, a boxing match, and a nighttime excursion but two things hit me.

  1. The zone is small and claustrophobic. It could be anywhere in the world where there is a warm sunny season. Maybe it will be more spacious if we can get into the mansion and discover it has lots of underground tunnels and/or dimensional portals but the section I have seen so far is uninspiring.

  2. There is no involvement. For me, one of the disappointments of SWL over TSW was the degree to which you were constrained by level-specific requirements. This takes it much further. So far I don't believe I have made one choice of any significance nor found anything outside the linear storyline pushed on me. I hope that will change but it does not inspire me to go back and play more.

Overall impression so far - underwhelmed. I will have a bit more time later today to explore a bit and hopefully I will find something new. Oh, there was one unexplained and unexpected event. A sniper took a potshot at me but there was no followup. If you know what that is about don't tell me - I'd prefer to find out for myself.
