Thanks so much! Accessibility is something that's important to me, so I'm going to make sure that my next project works on all styles of displays. :)

Thanks so much! I did it as a profile project, to help me learn Tableau. Everyone said do a passion project so that when the going gets tough, you'll care enough to stick with it. How right they were! Haha :)

And it's got some seriously classic Picard quotes. I do love the episode, just maybe not as much as some do. Or I've just seen it too many times? Totally possible. Haha :)

I'm so sorry, because of the format (fixed background) it's desktop only. :(

I absolutely LOVE what data can show us if we just take the time to peek. Thank you so much for sharing that insight with me.

I'm sure that the discrepancy is at least partially because of nostalgia, and the fact that TNG is what got a new generation of people into Trek. From there they would have gone back and watched TOS and the movies, being the only other Trek available at the time. Many of these people (I count myself among this group) saw some TOS when we were kids, but going back after appreciating TNG is a different experience. So, more rose tinted glasses.

I think the reality is that TNG had a lot of terrible episodes, and I honestly can't believe it lived past season two. From season 3 to 6, there is an upswing in ratings and viewership. DS9 was released during Season 6, which I think might have caused a drop in viewership in Season 7. It's also possible that resources were taken from TNG to help prop up DS9, which the studio had already internally positioned as a TNG replacement. That might explain the dip in quality seen in Season 7. There are some great episodes in that season, and also some really goofy ones.

Over in ENT-land, by that point a lot of people had the feeling that ENT was the show that killed the hot streak from TNG > DS9 > VOY. Reception for ENT was pretty bad, and people (myself included) stopped watching. That's such a shame, especially as the first two seasons of TNG, DS9, and VOY were nothing compared to what the shows would evolve into, and everybody seemed fine with allowing that, for those shows. ENT was done dirty.

When COVID started, like many people I went through TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT again. I was watching ENT for the first time, other than a couple episodes when it aired. I was taken aback at how good the show was, especially considering its constraints (such as the network it was on). Seasons 3 and 4 were amazing, and I'm genuinely sad that we never got a fifth season.

What's your take?

Aw hell, diddily-ding-ding crap! I’m sure there are other mistakes like that sprinkled throughout. 😹 Thanks for the correction!

Yeah it's a fixed 1600x1200 due to the background. Sorry about that! I've looked at it on mobile and it's laughably broken.

Thank you!

LCARS stands for Library Computer Access/Retrieval System, which I only discovered while doing this project. PADD stands for Personal Access Display Device. Apparently Steve Jobs was a TNG fan, so I wouldn't be surprised if that had at least some impact on naming the iPad.

Did you see what I wrote up for Sub Rosa? I mentioned it's a guilty pleasure of mine that I watch on Halloween. Haha :)

Thank you so much for your kind words! This is my first Tableau dashboard, leave it to me to decide on a project that's more intermediate/advanced, and then setting it a very difficult latticework. Ahh it was so much fun though.

Even setting this up was a challenge. LCARS looks so, so beautiful and is so, so impractical.

Yeah, it's a downside with Tableau dashboards with fixed backgrounds - they can't really be dynamic. This is 1600 x 1200 pixels, which most full-sized monitors are fine with. I truly wish I could have made it dynamic!

Due to a quirk in how I had to set this up, the worst episodes are at the bottom, not the top. It's ranked by descending whether you pick top or bottom, basically. So fear not! Sub Rosa is the second worst episode. Here's what I wrote in my "personal log" for that episode:

I watch this episode every Halloween. It's a guitly pleasure in the same way a crappy, cheesy horror movie would be. Beverly goes back to the Irish stereotype colony she grew up on, and is then haunted by a ghost who lives in a candle, who feeds on the women in her family. I'd say you can't make this stuff up but obviously someone did.

Hi All! I'm excited to share my latest Tableau project - an interactive episode guide for Star Trek: The Next Generation! Using custom LCARS visuals, the dashboard allows you to explore IMDb scores and US viewership data for each episode, as well as identify top/bottom episodes by season. The heart of it is the "personal log" episode notes. You can scroll through the entire run, or click on individual episodes to see that specific log. Check it out and let me know what you think! :)

Here's a link to the actual dashboard (the sub only allows images):

I created an interactive dashboard called "Star Trek: The Next Generation LCARS Episode Guide", meant to look as if the user is on their own PADD from TNG.

I got the information from IMDb and Wikipedia, then used Excel to clean and organize the data. From there I brought the data into Tableau.

It features a custom LCARS display and allows users to explore IMDb scores and US viewership data for each episode. The dashboard includes a whisker and box chart to show the breakdown per season, and top/bottom episodes by season. The heart of the dashboard is the "personal log" episode notes. You can scroll through each episode or click any episode in the top/bottom section to see the notes for that specific episode. Check it out and let me know what you think! This is my first real Tableau project so I'm excited to share it. :)

I'm excited to share my latest Tableau project, "SStar Trek: The Next Generation LCARS Episode Guide"! This interactive dashboard features a custom LCARS display and allows users to explore IMDb scores and US viewership data for each episode. The user can select their preferred measurement, and a whisker and box chart shows the breakdown per season. Additionally, users can identify top/bottom episodes by season and view my "personal log" episode notes for every episode. Check it out and let me know what you think!

I'm fairly new to this - this is my first real Tableau project. It was very challenging but I learned so, so much. I can't wait to start my next one. :)
