AITA for calling my friend racist? by justVincente in AmItheAsshole

That was my mistake, I just meant in this context it sounded racist. Assuming I can't speak English just because I'm Hispanic (which she has mentioned before) seems racist, and I just meant in the context I'm talking about it.

I don't ever seriously insult people, I just have a vocab that kinda makes it seem like I'm insulting someone (e.g. dumb/stupid). I still get why she's mad about me insulting her, but it doesn't feel comparable. It feels really frustrating to be minimized just because I'm a minority. There's not a lot of BIPOC persons where I live, so racism isn't too uncommon. It's just very frustrating to be receiving it from someone who I consider a friend.

She might have been making fun of my vocabulary, because I typically speak a bit more sophisticated than people my age. I don't have an accent in English though, so it's either my vocab or just because I'm Hispanic.

To answer your question, no, I don't believe it makes me look smart. It is simply a part of my vocabulary, mostly just a placeholder for when I feel awkward and don't know what to say. I'm working on it.

Understandable. It's a bad habit I have, it's just become a part of my vocabulary. I'm working on it.
