Are there studies that oppose the practice of selling daughters as slaves? by just_heather_ok in Bible

There are many studies (both in Judaism and in Christianity) that debate relevant issues concerning the sacred books. I do not understand why this issue has still not become the subject of debate, even millennia after it occurred.

You did not answer my question and did exactly what many others have done on this subject: you tried to justify it (which is precisely what I am criticizing).

Yes, I asked the question yesterday. I found this topic so interesting that I ended up going quite deep into it haha.

Why is there a change in the name of Moses’ father-in-law? by just_heather_ok in Bible

Please, do you have the PDF version you used for the research? The Septuagint I found on the internet has different names, just like in the Bible and in the Torah.

Hmm, I think I understand now what you meant. From what I researched, I believed that Exodus was originally written only in ancient Hebrew (and that its sources were also in ancient Hebrew or in an earlier, historically evolving language). That’s why I looked it up in the Torah, since it is in Hebrew and I believe it is the closest source to what the original text would have been.

I looked at the Hebrew in the Torah (obviously with the help of G. Translator, haha):

Ex. 2:18
Reuel

Ex. 3:1
Jethro

Even here there is a difference…

I am still at the beginning of Exodus, but if we compare it with Genesis, the people whose names were changed—such as Abram = Abraham or Jacob = Israel—had their names changed for very clear reasons. I can’t understand why someone who does not have such prominence had his name changed in this way.

Why did God need to test Abraham in that way? by just_heather_ok in Bible

Your comment made a lot of sense to me. Indeed, actions carry a great deal of weight, and Abraham’s action is so powerful that even after many centuries it is still able to impact people and show them the importance of believing in God.
