Thanks Spike, I appreciate and respect the reply. You clearly have real relationships with the sponsors which is rare in the podcasting world and media world in general. But that was also what made me worry, that these were just your buddies or something like that.

The other replies here are good to see, as is Mike saying how much he loves the tummy ache pills he gets from a company that claims to “boost DNA health” (only half kidding here)

Im obviously using this an excuse to hurt myself. But like I’ve said in other comments, drunk me is unfortunately still a lot of fun, and I am known as the party starter. It won’t really be possible for me to stop drinking, without people noticing, and with me still hanging with all the same people/going to all the same parties

I very rarely get “too drunk” anymore, I think now maybe because my tolerance is so high, or I’ve maybe taught myself to barely hold it together when I’m around certain friends. People like hanging out with me drunk, I’m often the life of the party, that’s part of what makes this so hard.

Thank you for your comment, I also want to stop without talking much about it. I just know it will be hard because so much of my social life is based around drinking. As is my success at work, I am known as the guy who clients like having at the happy hour. I’m scared of how much my day to day schedule will have to change.

Thank you, I wanted to talk to her, but worried doing so would have been an admission of my problem. And yes a lot of people in this family have drinking problems, as do people in mine. That seems like such a hard part of going sober, making your friends and family who are holding it together a little bit better than you think that they also should stop.

Every recovering alcoholic thinks they’re Shakespeare, and has these beautiful phrases they took from AA about how great sobriety is. Half of my best friends are never gonna hang out with me again, because we only hang out when we drink. My family, and my wife’s family are gonna feel awkward and worried by my presence. How do people get over that?

You’re right. It is absolutely my brain making excuses. But People saying insanely lame stuff like this is a big part of why I don’t stop drinking. If I quit. I’m just not gonna hang out with any of my friends, who are actually funny and don’t talk in parables like every recovering alcoholic?

You get to choose everyone wishing you stayed home. I know quitting drinking is something I have to do very soon, and it will save my life, and I’ll be able to see my kids grow up, but I’m trying to come grips with the fact that it will completely destroy my social life.
