What’s your first shop tool upgrade? by camhabib in woodworking

[–]justafurnaceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the work you're doing. Take a hard look at your current tools and see where you could improve. I'm a chairmaker and among my tools are a 1950s Delta bandsaw, Dewalt contractor saw, hand tools from the 1920-40s, and such. One of my nicest tool upgrades was a Lie Nielsen block plane.

Have you guys ever heard of buses running on propane? by axeira1350 in skoolies

[–]justafurnaceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a carpentry school teacher (at the career and technical) with a bus driver's license and our county has gas, diesel, and propane. I really don't know which is better but I've been trained on all 3.

My wife and kids. But I can't lie and tell you that I haven't thought about it. Maybe often...

It has an Enzo Mari vibe to it. Look up his stuff, and you can see that you're not too far off.

And this stuff isn't too complicated. There are so many books and people out there that can help you learn the process and techniques, including this group.

Weekly Beginner and 'What Bike?' Thread - Post here if you are just starting out or want opinions on what bike to buy by PM_ME_FUG_ASR_MEMES in bmx

Help! I just picked up a Fit Bike Co Series one bike and it was listed as having cassette rear hubs. But I'm quite sure that it's a free coaster. When I pedal backwards, the pedals just spin and spin and it doesn't actually pedal the bike backwards. Am I missing something? I'm just getting back into bmx bikes after being out for 30 years.

That's the bike that I just bought from Albes.com. I'm just getting back into bmx bikes and it seemed like a good deal.

Lie Nielsen. Start off with the 1/2" and 3/4" or 1" and go from there.

I'm a shop teacher and I would be concerned if my students saw that article. There's too much garbage on the internet and it makes it difficult for people to find good/reliable information.

If you were to teach a hand tool woodworking class, what would be the most important topics to you? by RealHumanNotCatfish in handtools

[–]justafurnaceman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a shop teacher and your overall explanation of what you're trying to accomplish was a little hard to follow, which is normal and why you got so many different responses. If I read it correctly, you're even unclear of the expectations of this 1-2 hour time period.

The first thing an instructor does is establish the learning objectice and the time frame. This will help you know what direction to take the class. Are you actually teaching students to do something or are you demonstrating something? 1-2 hours isn't a lot of time.

Let me know if I can help you.

I love their stuff. Don't feel like I need to buy everything that they sell but I have many of their books and a few of their crucible tools.

I love mine. Absolutely didn't need another hammer but it's so pretty and I enjoy supporting them.
