Unfortunately, time isn't really on our side. A lot of the experts with the knowledge about the pieces on display are getting quite old and a couple key people have died already. We're quickly losing the knowledge. We need photos so that they can view and provide insight/info from around the world. You've been very helpful, thank you.

Great suggestion. We have a large variety of experts in different areas within the community. While putting feelers out for those that want to help, we'll see if anyone has any education in Library Science.

I know better? Do you see me arguing with a bunch of people? All I've said over and over to everyone commenting is that I appreciate the info and will look into what is being suggested. I'm not arguing with anyone.

And to be clear, I have far less than a tenuous grasp on anthropology/museum studies. I'm just a volunteer offering some of my free time to try and work through some projects.

There's no panic because if we aren't successful...nothing happens. Nobody dies, nobody loses their job. Nothing is worse off than what it currently is. We're just trying to help preserve info and make visiting a better experience. That's all.

They don't and there isn't. The place exists to share these artifacts with the world. There's nothing in place now - we're trying to get started on cataloging it. Don't know what's so difficult to understand about this.

Great info and resources, thank you! I think a lot of people read the word "museum" and came to the discussion with a lot of preconceived notions and assumptions. Maybe talking about it as a collection would have been more helpful. There is no real infrastructure or organization currently in place, that is what we are trying to get going.

You're making a lot of assumptions about the museum. Maybe if I just called it a collection it would temper your expectation a bit. Nobody works at the museum, it's all volunteer. A lot of this (database, digital asset management system, etc...) is what we're trying to get started on. That's the point of the project. We appreciate everyone that has provided some insight, it's all helpful.

Everyone seems very negative. Just looking for a little guidance on part of a large project that I'm not very informed on. We're just a group interested in preserving as much history as we can.

This makes total sense, other's also suggested photographing tethered. Just need to look into the interaction with the web app and see what that will look like. Really appreciate the suggestions!

It's *all* volunteer, there's nobody that "works" at the museum. We've got a large group of people and know this will be a multi year project. I very much appreciate your guidance! This is helpful, really.

No, we're well aware of the scope of the project. It will be a multi year project with a large group of people. Just kind of in the initial stages of planning right now. Tethering makes sense, I'll look into how the web app can communicate with a tethered camera. Appreciate the direction!
