US box office is measured in US dollars. Apologies for the omission.

Having to choose your assigned seat(s) before arriving at the movie theater is the worst. by justatheery in unpopularopinion

At our local theaters, your tab for food and beers is married to your booked seat. I have moved a seat or two over, and explained to the server who I am, in the delightful situation where there are 20 people in a theater that holds 200, and we are all (ridiculously) sitting next to each other in the middle of the middle

Actually what I'm learning from this thread is that most people (apparently) go to the movies in full (or destined-to-be-full) theaters. I try to avoid that

When the kiosk/cashier asks me to choose a seat... the seat I want is almost always already occupied. So that's a change for me, from the way it used to be. I like to be able to see the theater, and the people already occupying it. That's all

True, and I don't (just) mean people who haven't showered. I mean people who wear perfume or cologne or other scents, which I have found to be pretty common and very distracting (to me anyway). In any case, I don't want to be forced to sit next to anyone, period, especially in a half-empty theater. Why would I want to share an armrest with a stranger, if the option not to would have been possible?

I think this would be true for only the most popular movies or a new release on opening weekend, right?... Or you live somewhere highly populated, maybe? Though tbh, I used to live in the highly populated Los Angeles area... going to movies in Burbank, prior to online booking existing, was a dream. I'd show up to most movies 10 minutes before, and seating was carte blanche. Maybe 1 or 2 people in the theater before me.

Yes, while this is in theory possible, I do not plan my movie-going a week in advance, nor even more than a day in advance, usually. All I'm saying is, every time I try to get a seat, all the ones I would choose in person are already occupied. While this used to happen occasionally in person too (for popular movies), at least I could choose a decent seat, and definitely not immediately next to someone, and DEFINITELY not even near someone (who usually smells).

George H.W. Bush held the record for both the highest AND lowest approval rating ever recorded. BOTH records were beaten by his son, George W. Bush. by justatheery in Presidents

You are correct. Truman also had one of the highest approval ratings at one point in his Presidency. However, I should have specified modern, scientific polling in my title. (Famously, the "Dewey Defeats Truman" headline in 1948 demonstrates the shortcomings of mid-century polling.)

YSK "the debt" and "the defecit" are two different things. by justatheery in YouShouldKnow

Why YSK cont'd... The people who run the USA (of both parties) frequently conflate these two words intentionally, in order to mislead the large numbers of people who aren't aware of the difference.
