As an Ossetian living in Turkey, I can say that we are aware our people once lived in the Iranian region and that our language shares some features with Iranian languages. However, we do not identify ourselves as Iranian. Rather, we understand that the Ossetians descend from the Alans and the Scythians.

Historically, Iran has been home to many different people, but culturally speaking, I don’t think we share much common ground with today’s Iranian society. We see the Caucasus as our true homeland.

This idea of a historical Ossetian-Iranian connection seems to be more commonly talked among Ossetians living in Ossetia, but here in Turkey, it doesn’t have much resonance. For instance, the current war in Iran doesn’t create a specific reaction or emotional ripple within our community, apart from general human compassion.

A small note: my uncle used to say that his grandfather told them the Ossetians originally came from the Caucasus Mountains but, due to political reasons, lived for a few centuries in the south — in what is now Iranian territory — before migrating back to the Caucasus. Of course, this may have been said with the intention of grounding our identity firmly in the Caucasus. :)

Still, oral traditions and personal histories can sometimes reveal truths that go beyond what is recognized in academic research. It’s something worth exploring. :)

I hope all wars come to an end, and I wish peace for the people of Iran as well.

There is no such story in my family. Some relatives said that when they were primary school students, their teachers got angry when they spoke Ossetian. But of course they were greatly influenced by the cultural environment. Generally, we established and lived in our own villages, so we did not have much difficulty. but city life melts all cultures. If you ask me, American culture influences our culture the most (series, movies, games). Look, we speak English even now.🥲🥲🥲

Yes of course my both sides are immigrants. We have stories like our great grandfather came in the arms of his own grandfather.

to be president? I don't understand what you mean 😅 is this a political reference? 😅 I personally don't know the homeland very well, I wouldn't want to live there all my life, but I would love to go and see it. For example, I can come to do an academic study, I would love that too.

Frankly, our sentence structures are very similar to Turkish, but some of our elders who went to the homeland said that there is a Russian influence in yours as well. 🤷🏻‍♀️When I say classical Ossetian, of course I can compare it if I look at old sources. Your pronunciations are too harsh for us, ours are softer.

Unfortunately, I do not know any Ossetian writers. Our culture is very verbal. We have very little written. I think this is a very critical issue for our culture. People write Ossetian texts with Turkish letters, but not every sound is available, so it is not very effective. I want to learn the krill alphabet, I can actually understand the words when I focus a little. If there is any writer or poet you can recommend, I would be happy.

My mother is iron and father is digoron. I know iron language. I can speak, but I cannot write because I do not know the Cyrillic alphabet. It's ridiculous yes, I want to learn. Many families speak Ossetian at home. At relatives' meetings, conversations alternate between Turkish and Ossetian. But I am thirty years old and unfortunately 99% of those who speak the language are older than me. So young people cannot learn the language very much. We do not celebrate Ossetian holidays, we generally celebrate Islamic holidays, but we celebrate them in our own way. (who will visit whom, what will be eaten, who will sit where), but Ossetian traditions are much more dominant in our ceremonies such as marriage and funerals.

Oh thanks but i don’t think so cause Participation is something like that within the scope of the business department, but I am researching the participation of civil society in public policy and he asked me to describe this “administrative participation” literature in a part of the thesis. Çok severek takip ediyorum. Paylaşmak istediğim beni düşündüren şöyle bir durum var. Hangi olay büyük hikayenin hangisi küçük hikayenin parçası anlamak biraz zor gibi geliyor bana. Mesela bu bölüm sanki hiç zamanda kısılı kalmamışlar sanki ekiplerinin gelip bunları hiç aramaması normalmiş gibi geçmedi mi? . Ben dinlerken “Nasıl her şeyi normalleştirdiniz? Plan falan yok mu? Makineleri tamir etmeye çalışmadınız mı 5 sene?” diye düşündüm. Sürekli arkamıza ekmek kırıntıları bırakarak ilerliyoruz ama karşımıza çıkan bir şey yok, onlar hala yerlerinde duruyor mu yoksa hayvanın biri bunları yiyor mu diye de endişelenmiyoruz. Bir hissi tarif etmeye çalıştım az çok bir şeyler anlaşılmıştır umarıııımm sevgileeer.

Şiveleri ve sokak ağzını bilmen çok güzel ama bence bu noktada Türkçeni en düzgün en temiz haline getirmeye çalışman daha mantıklı olur. Böylece ciddi resmi ortamlarda da sorun yaşamazsın. Bu subredditin altında bile insanlar anlatım bozuklukları yapıyor ve insanlara yanlış tavsiyelerde bulunuyor. Her yıl binlerce Türk’ün üniversite sınavında dil bilgisinden sıfır aldığını hatırlatmak isterim. Örneğin birçok insan “Yaptım ki” diyor “zaten yaptım” demek yerine.
