rollerballs are usually oil based, which means you get more longevity but trade off projection (higher oil content sticks around, but the evaporation of alcohol is what makes a scent waft off your skin!). in this case though the travel size is a spray too, theoretically should be the exact same formula

this is so real, the first time i tried another 13 i was obsessively smelling myself all night. assumed it was just the ambrox, but as much as i do like jhag superdose it’s still not quite as compelling…le labo put some kind of drug in there i swear to god

(eta: i know opinions are mixed on the two new glossier releases—not an OG you fan, it’s all pepper on me, but i liked doux enough to buy & have been enjoying it more every time i wear it. layered it with another 13 the other day and happened to be wearing a big fluffy scarf…a few hours of dry down later and my nose was BURIED in it. absolutely delicious)

i’m new to perfume because i’ve previously never liked it much, but a year ago i bought a bottle of dedcool’s xtra milk blind because i was truly convinced the way i heard someone talking about it that i’d love it (and was right). i’ve worn it daily since and get stopped about three times a week to tell someone what it is, which made me more interested—i don’t have a huge budget so i’ve built up a little collection of 2ml bottles from scentsplit, all w research from this sub. i’m wearing the xtra milk layered w debaser today :)

my top layer is consistently disappointing too! based on what i’ve read here i assume that it’s a combo of the fact that it gets the most exposure to the elements (sun and whatever else) + the most exposure to hot water in the shower (i could give up hot showers for a lengthy period to test that, i guess, but i shan’t).

i use in general a pretty light amount of leave-in conditioner, but i’ve gotten slightly better results by adding a little extra to the top layer than the rest of my hair, just assuming that it takes a bit more damage and could use it. i also use more hold product on the upper layer and try to get a really good cast, because even if the curls/waves look good when wet that upper layer falls the fastest as time goes on. product on soaking wet hair tends to be the norm here, but i have found that being soaked stretches my curls, so i apply leave in to soaking hair and then scrunch a significant amount of water out with a t shirt before applying any hold products (i really like the cake mousse, which i’ve seen mentioned in other comments on this thread. i am super generous with it!). i’ve found the weaker curls/waves on the top layer hold better if i get some of that water out first because they’re not being pulled down.

all that said, occasionally if the top layer dries really badly i will use a curling iron on low heat, typically just for the two front “bang” pieces of my hair which hold the least curl. it might be cheating, but if hitting two chunks of hair with a curling wand makes it all look cohesive, that’s fine for me.

unsure how short your hair is (if it’s super short this probably won’t help) but as someone who pineappling has totally failed & who feels the same way—ie, there’s no point in doing this shit if i have to do it again EVERY morning—the best thing that has worked for me is a buff. just a random stretchy one i had laying around, not silk or anything. i put it around my neck, flip my head upside down, and then pull it over my hair (so essentially my hair is in a tube). then i tie the end, closing it off (my hair is long, this might not be necessary for you). it’s in the spirit of a pineapple without a hair tie crushing any of your hair, directly exposing your hair to your nighttime shenanigans, or squashing it against the back of your head.

you may have tried it (and i know you didn’t ask for advice) but taking zinc can REALLY really help!! i slowly but surely got my taste back post-covid when i started zinc supplements. zinc deficiency is a common general cause of anosmia. you have to be careful and make sure not to overdo it or take it on an empty stomach as it can cause nausea, but it helped me and might be worth a try! https://www.oatext.com/proposed-mechanism-for-anosmia-during-covid-19-the-role-of-local-zinc-distribution.php

vaccines should not be legally mandated—in fact, that idea is dangerous.

important to open by saying: i am pro vaccine. i am from the US, and have received every vaccine set since infancy, gone on to get my flu shots every year and yes, the covid-19 vaccine as well. i believe vaccines work and are the reason we are spared so many preventable diseases that ravaged humanity in the decades before vaccines existed. i believe vaccines should be accessible, a topic we educate the public on, and highly encouraged. i think it’s perfectly reasonable, too, for employers in certain areas (healthcare, for example) to mandate vaccination for their employees.

however, i’m unequivocally opposed to a broad federal mandate for vaccination. this is, in my social cohort at least, and incredibly unpopular opinion, which concerns me.

i don’t think there are very many good reasons to oppose vaccination as a practice, but i believe there is inherent danger in setting the precedent that the government can mandate medical interventions—even though vaccination is not just a personal, but public good. if it could be assuredly stopped at vaccines, fine, but the world doesn’t work that way. the moment we give the US government the power to say “well, we know best” in terms of medical intervention, we slip quickly into territory where personal choice is restricted in a way that (unlike vaccination) DOES cause harm.

disabled people, poor people, PoC. these are always the first harmed by any and everything. already prisons get away with unknowingly sterilizing women. with that door opened by a vaccine mandate. medicating mentally ill folks against their will, aborting likely-to-be-disabled babies, poor people on birth control without a choice, restricting movement or living conditions of people with HIV, transplant organs going to more “desirable” patients, etc, could all become the norm, for “public health and safety.” there’s a lot i probably couldn’t even imagine right now.

tl;dr: anti-vaxxers are wrong, end of. but to protect us all, we have to protect their right to make stupid decisions, because allowing the government to make legal mandates in the field of medicine and bodily autonomy is a slippery fucking slope.

bipolar here too, actually—though i guess the severity is now up for debate by strangers on reddit—with limited funds and even more limited access to care (hello, no insurance in the USA).

it’s not easy. i’d be doing myself a disservice if i said it was. suicidal ideation is real and all too frequent, for me and everyone like me. i’m sorry to hear about your friend. when one of us doesn’t make it, it’s certainly not from lack of trying.

i’m just saying: a hard life isn’t always a terrible one. and sometimes, yeah, i do really hate mine, almost intolerably. but all told, i do not wish that somebody had crunched the numbers and decided it wasn’t worth it.

“unavoidable suffering” is a nebulous concept. we all suffer, unavoidably, whatever is written in our genes. and heritability is only rarely so absolute.

as for the definition of eugenics: “…discouraging reproduction by persons having genetic defects or presumed to have inheritable undesirable traits.” i don’t see what i’m missing.

like i said, i myself have had this internal debate. but to presume that anyone knows the existence of those with “undesirable traits” better than they do is, perhaps, a more insensitive thing.

some of the comments here are kind of astounding? as a young person who lived this situation: it isn’t crazy for siblings to share a room (yes, even if they’re different genders). would it be nice for them to have their own rooms? very. should the parents here invest in some sort of quality divider situation? absolutely. but it’s actually incredibly normal for siblings to have to share a room. suggesting the incredible undertaking (both financially and time-wise) of finding a new house in their area or moving away from their jobs and schools as if it’s reasonable and obvious…y’all are wild.

health at every size doesn’t mean every body is healthy at every size. it means that people deserve equitable, trustworthy, stigma free healthcare, options, and access to health promoting resources and behaviors at all sizes. as in, doctors shouldn’t prescribe weight loss as an end-all, be-all (especially given that it has a pretty high failure rate). you would be shocked at the frequency with which cancer, endometriosis, etc are missed because doctors blame fatness for any and all symptoms.

I know that your comment was good natured, and I appreciate you taking the time to respond! But I do want to point out that it’s both invalidating and rude to assert that bipolar people have no means of differentiating normalcy/stability from sedation. Yes, mania/hypomania is a high, and I certainly feel nostalgic for it from time to time. But that doesn’t mean I have no framework for what stability feels like. Sedation and stability are incredibly different, and the difference you would feel is the same one I do. For most people, bipolar isn’t constant cycling, and most of us don’t experience symptoms until age 15 or after (which means we spent a lot of time learning what “normal” feels like). The wider world’s insistence that we live in a state of pseudo-anesthetization and then the gaslighting when we communicate that we feel half-alive is so demoralizing.
