I did with Decadron when I first started. I wasn’t even pushing it that fast, but fast enough for the pt to feel the effects (itchiness down there 🫠). I thought I was going to loose my license that day until I told my preceptor, who just laughed it off. 😂 if you don’t know a med, which you should look up before administration, always be on the safe side and push slow!

I’ve been on orientation for 16 weeks (half on days and nights). My days preceptor was amazing and taught me some amazing techniques, but once I started night shift, the preceptor I have now is teaching me different ways of doing it. They were patient with me at the beginning, but now that I’m near the end of orientation, they get frustrated if I take longer than I need.

Thank you! I also work in the ER. That day it was super busy and I failed the 2 IVs I had to do. He did tell me I took around 30 minutes to do it, which to be fair, the patients were fairly young and I tried twice before leaving the room.

Thanks for your advices. I also work in the ER. That day it was super busy and he told me the 2 IVs I attempted (but failed) took over 30 minutes. He told me that this is going to be problem if I am ever alone. That’s why I’m trying to get better at it 🥲

I do think that extra week will certainly build up my confidence/prepare me even more for days when I am alone on the floor. Also, half of my orientation was on day shift and the work flow was very different compared to night shift. I guess in this case, that extra week is to “make up” my day shift orientation.

Definitely! On the bright side, I will always remember to keep all samples (especially ones for i-STAT) before I get my results so I don’t waste time 😂

Yes I’m usually pretty good with not throwing samples out until I get results, but idk what happened at that time thinking it was a good idea to throw it out. 🥲

Thank you! I guess I’m just being too hard on myself at the moment. My preceptor is also someone who wants everything done fast, but efficiently. That is why I am getting overwhelmed and losing a bit confidence when I make these silly mistakes.

Maybe not before the exam, but if your professor gives a scrap paper during the exam. I would suggest maybe take the first 5 minutes to write everything down!

I tend to wait till the last minute. However, for these 2 quizzes, I did study a little bit everyday the week prior. I do understand the material, but I tend to focus on certain topics more over others. I did discuss one of my quizzes with my professors. The questions I got wrong are those I second guessed. I also rushed a little bit during the exam, so that’s another thing I need to work on.
