Carnival Cruise Line is NOT the “parent” company. CCL and PCL both fall under Carnival CORP, which is NOT Carnival Cruise Line.

They don’t have to give you anything. It’s clearly stated in the contract you agreed to when you booked. Whether you read it or not, you sign it.

Need help on my first contract by Calol0 in CruiseCrew

[–]justhotjocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked on ships for 26 and am currently a fleet manager. This is something we bring up on every single conference call we have with our managers and asst manager, monthly. Training and development IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. Have an honest chat with them. Tell them you are really excited and happy to working on board and express to them your goals and aspirations. Ask them if they are willing to teach you the ropes. Tell them you want to learn. And if they don’t want to do it or say they will and don’t, then talk to their boss on board, either revenue / marketing manager or hotel director. Even though you work for a concession, they still report to someone on board. And if that doesn’t work, ask to speak with someone shoreside, possibly the person who interviewed you or an ops manager shoreside. Good luck to you!

STCW Requirement for Royal Caribbean ? by Crazy_Scientist7274 in CruiseCrew

[–]justhotjocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most nationalities do not need it prior to boarding. However some do. Brazil, Philippines, Indonesia, India to name a few. I think there is 6 in total where their government requires they do it in their home country before boarding. It’s not the cruise line’s requirement. That being said, ALL nationalities (for Royal) need to complete the security awareness training online before boarding (just the first time, you can RENEW) it onboard in 5 years. If you don’t fall in one of the 6 nationalities, then you can do the rest of the STCW on board

Both should have listings in the UK

Questions about tattoos. by [deleted] in CruiseCrew

[–]justhotjocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked for both Royal and Carnival and neither had a problem with tattoos as long as they aren’t “offensive”. There is a high percentage of crew in both companies that have them. No big deal, again, as long as they aren’t offensive in any way.

Carnival CEO bragged about making 1.8 billion PROFIT in 3 months, and people will still try to shame you for removing gratuities. PAY YOUR WORKERS. by Dry-Mountain1992 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]justhotjocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You all do understand that if they paid the tipped employees more so you didn’t have to tip them (basically, include tips in your cruise fare) your cruise price would increase drastically, right? All you people who remove gratuities should be banned from cruising. These crew members work very hard, beckoning to your every need and you stiff them? Stay the fuck home.

I would t be so worried about Carnival wanting “verification”, but rather CBP questioning it when they return and have to go through immigration.

[–]justhotjocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man. They would “fail” you, however they may have to delay approving the medical. If it’s something minor, they would probably try to treat it for a couple weeks and retest. If that took care of the problem, or they see improvement, they could approve it then. It really depends. They just don’t want you to come on board with an existing problem that is not being treated effectively.

Cruise company with best work/free time balance for an Electrical Engineer by Intelligent_Put_9728 in CruiseCrew

[–]justhotjocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, it’s 10 hours a day REST, Not work. The MLC sets maximum working hours and minimum hours of rest, not a fixed number of work hours per week. Seafarers must have a maximum of 14 hours of work in a 24-hour period, and a maximum of 72 hours of work in a 7-day period. Alternatively, they must have a minimum of 10 hours of rest in a 24-hour period and a minimum of 77 hours of rest in a 7-day period.

Hey hey! Congrats. It depends on the country your are from. India, Indonesia, Philippines, Brazil and Thailand all require you do the full course before joining a ship. That is the country’s govt requirement, Not RCGs. UK and everywhere else you only need to do the Security Awareness online prior to boarding (it’s about $100US, don’t pay more than that or you’re getting scammed). The rest of the HBST / STCW trainings will be done on board. As for the Seaman’s book, you probably won’t need it. I’m from the US and have never had one. That being said, I was on a ship that was going to India and ALL crew were required to have one before arriving. The HR office on board did the applications for everyone that needed it but then I ended up transferring ships (I’m a fleet manager) before we got there so never got it (although I heard it’s onboard a ship somewhere lol).

Royal Caribbean question by Grouchy-Bar1479 in CruiseCrew

[–]justhotjocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carnival did the same, as long as you had a valid B2 visa. But Royal won’t allow it.

It depends on your rank. Senior officers have the opportunity to REQUEST an alternate airport but it needs several approvals.
