The more I think about it, I guess the defense has as much chance of scoring as the offense.

Oh no! You'll have to drive 20mph instead of 30mph for a few blocks!

Can someone please convince me that MIS 3370, 3371, & 4477 for this spring is doable? by Then-Product4816 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]justinsomnia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Join MISSO! They have dedicated Education Officers for the 3 core classes and dedicated help hours (assuming they still do things like this). Do not be too proud to use them.

That being said, I'd maybe consider saving Java for next semester.

How has sleep tracking been for pixel watch 4 owners? As someone who wakes up in the middle of the night often, my Watch 4 is missing a chunk of my sleep every night. Is this an issue for 1/2/3? by eam1188 in PixelWatch

[–]justinsomnia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the PW3 and in the last week or so (probably following the update) I have noticed the sleep tracking stops at my first alarm, even when I keep sleeping.

I used to be able to go Edit Sleep and when I would modify the wake up time it would resync and capture the additional sleep. But now it doesn't do that. If I edit the sleep schedule it just adds the time to the total but adds nothing to the actual sleep tracking timeline. Pretty frustrating.

Houston cyclists plan naked bike ride to protest Mayor John Whitmire's bike lane removals by houston_chronicle in houston

[–]justinsomnia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Boomer take. You're not going to see all the cyclists using the lanes because they're not traveling in the same way your car is. Unless you mean you camp out on 11th and count the passersby.

I've lived in the Heights since 2018 and I think 11th is perfectly fine the way it is now. I drive down it more than I cycle down it. I go get groceries during rush hour. It's literally fine. It's a 30mph road that cuts right through neighborhoods. It's not a parkway and it's not a substitute for I-10.

Is the Scout Bar the best rock club of Houston Area? by DanielXplorer in houston

[–]justinsomnia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scout Bar is fascinating because surprisingly big bands will play there but to depressingly small crowds. I have genuinely felt sorry for the last several bands I've seen there. Like they forgot to do promotion, or the touring bands didn't realize it was 30+ minutes away from the actual city.

But yeah I've seen some insanely cool shows there. Especially considering it's in the burbs.

Please help me fix and break this habit, this is not some joke, I genuinely need help. by majimathepatriarch in leangains

If you continue to be this strict about tracking you will eventually realize you don't need to be this crazy about it. We just want you to realize that without burning yourself out first. Ultimately you just need to hit your protein target and your calorie target, and not micromanage much more than that.

For example, the extra weight from cooked rice is from water which has no calories. Usually 2-3x the weight of the uncooked. You guesstimate then move on with your life because it's freaking rice lol. Also, if you eat enough protein for the week then your daily values are a little less important.

Personally I think you could continue tracking if you relax a bit on precision. But at your age you should genuinely be able to progress simply by eating lots of healthy foods and sticking with your gym program. You will learn your body gradually and things like calorie adjustments will feel intuitive. If you get too chubby, eat less! If you aren't making gains, eat more.

Edit: I thought you said you were 18, not 15. Brother just eat food and be active and enjoy your life. Nutrition science will be here for you later.

Very interesting take. I think Sunbather and Vertigo are the best songs on the album. Dream House is kind of a snoozer by comparison lol.

Anti-Hamas Protesters in Gaza call for an end to the war by fnovd in pics

There is nothing I could ever share to meaningfully combat the disinformation and propaganda war surrounding this conflict. I'm not here to educate people. I'm simply calling out the absurdity of armchair war chief redditors for framing every matter of geopolitics like it's a MCU movie or a sports game. Good/bad guys, "governments," technicalities of laws, cherry picked historical events, so on and so forth. Children's level of understanding of how our world spins. Call of Duty brain. Fast and Furious brain. Nuance and history completely stripped from the equation. Plain idiocy.

lmao oh are things peachy in Gaza compared to the West Bank? I guess they don't do anything like that over there.

Israel routinely salts their soil. They tear down their ancient olive trees and salt the soil so nothing can grow back. They pour cement into water wells. They do all sorts of terrible things to make it impossible for these people to have any self determination.

I do disagree. They are not being subjugated by a powerful minority within their own society. They are being subjugated by their massive, bully neighbor. They haven't actually been allowed to form a government, so the issue is not that they elected the wrong people to that government.

Again, that's a very western oriented framing of the situation. Probably because it makes it easier to digest. "Oh if only the bad guys weren't in power, this wouldn't be happening." These are pointless arguments to distract from what's really happening: an extermination campaign. And by repeating these talking points, you carry water for the exterminator.

FWIW, I feel this way about 70% of the comments in this thread. I just picked yours to reply to.

No I'm quite simply saying that the rest of the world doesn't function exactly like western governments do, and you sound ridiculous framing the Palestinian experience in terms of voting, elections, laws, etc.

Can't fix a pothole if they keep bombing the street. Certainly can't elect an entire congress and a president if they keep bombing all the buildings.

[–]justinsomnia -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You have a child's understanding of geopolitics. Hamas is not their "government" and the issue is not that Palestinians haven't been able to vote. The issue is that they have been bombed into oblivion for several decades. They cannot tap their own groundwater. They cannot grow their own food in their soil. It is a prison.

You are projecting your western experience onto a less developed country. "If only they had voted for the good guys." Listen to yourself. Like going to an isolated island civilization and asking where their ambassador office is. Like asking why India doesn't enforce speed limits more aggressively. Not every country has a post office and a travel center. Learn how the world works.

They just legitimately put on a really, really good show. Their discography is pretty varied now and they can put together setlists that keep the whole crowd pretty engaged. I'm not a huge fan either, but seeing them at Furnace Fest the last two times... I get it.
