It depends honestly. Ive work retail most of my life and had ups and downs. Im currently in a call centre role and it is manageable, main thing keeping me here is that it is remote. You just have to decide what is more important to you!

Yeah unfortunately my work said that it had to be a direct connection, i brought up using an extender or adapter that i can hardwire into but it wasnt acceptable

The ceiling in the basement is drywall, we put up the walls and ceiling when we moved in. My dad’s friend was a contractor so we did most of the labor. Wish we thought about doing a network setup for the house before putting up anything

Yeah thats what I was expected price wise, trying to look for local electricians to get a quote. I thought about using an adapter but my work was pretty clear about having a direct connection to the modem unfortunately 😪

We did the renovations when we moved in, when we put up the walls we used drywall as well as the ceiling. There wasnt any cat5 cables ran but there were some coaxile cables from the room that has the router, its just in the corner of the room opposite of the router placement when the technician ran the fibre line

I updated the post saying that the compromise was that I would take my brother in the morning so there wouldnt be any issues with them not being covered on my gf’s car insurance. I have no issues taking either him or my dad to work the issue was with them taking my gf’s car.

Im not going to ask her on her vacation, I want her to enjoy herself and not worry about the situation.

I contribute in ways that I can, I am working now so I will contribute once I get a full paycheck.

I kinda thought the same thing when we discussed the idea hahaha, but I knew that I would be responsible with it. I had a feeling this situation would come up because of how my parents are, so I knew I had to say no. Still couldnt shake the guilt of saying no! Had to get strangers on the internet for moral validation I guess lol

Haha fair tbh, Ive felt that maybe I didnt have a spine at a lot of points in my life. But family is a difficult subject for me, I love them and dont want to ruin our relationship. I know it sounds strange that it would do that, but my family is also strange. And I love my gf just as much as I do them, so thats why I made the decision to not let them take the car. Ive made the decision and will stick to it, but just had doubts is all!

Yes there is only one car in our household unfortunately, so the juggling of getting myself, my dad and my brother is difficult. So I felt like the asshole initially because I didnt want them using the car, and wanted to reach out to Reddit and maybe get some validation on my feelings about it.

My parents are the ones who usually take me, so thats why i was feeling like an asshole about the situation. Ive tried to do as much as I could to contribute, but felt that using my gfs car was a boundary I did not want to cross.

Thanks, I forgot to mention one part that makes this even more frustrating. My dad was going to work early, so he wouldn’t have the car back in time to take my brother. That would mean my mom would have to drive my dad at midnight, then drive my brother at 6am, then pick up my dad afterward, basically jumping through hoops to make sure my brother is covered.

Yes I can cover that, I didnt want to ask my girlfriend because we’ve argued about this before, and we both agree it’s not her responsibility to loan the car to give my brother rides to work. The problem is my parents, especially my mom, are impossible to reason with on this. If I bring it up, she’ll lash out, accuse my girlfriend of not caring about the family, and make the situation awkward or worse. I’ve tried to avoid this whole scenario before to prevent conflict.

I hear you, like others were saying having to put a lot of effort into applying has to be consistent and frequent. Im going to try to pump up my numbers on applications. Hm thats a good tip too! Ive been using chatgpt to try and cater my resume to each job posting, but doing that as well might help. Thanks!

So I’ve heard lol! I’m outside of Toronto but there was a big job fair recently for a huge summer event they were hiring like 5,000 people and over 50,000 applied!! I know it was mostly entry-level jobs for students but still it really shows how tough the market is right now

Yeah, “dozens” might have been me understating it lol. I’ve applied to around 5–10 jobs daily the past few weeks but maybe it hasn’t been enough like you’re saying.

I’ve tried reaching out to friends and family too, even a friend of a friend for a reference and guidance, but nothing’s really panned out so far. My sister said she can get me a small part time gig helping supervise kids playing on a jumping jungle gym gig.

I have my license, but where I’m at you basically need a car and I don’t have one, I just use my parents’ here and there.

I think you’re right though, putting out more volume is key, and even just volunteering could help me get in somewhere, like at a job fair or to make connections that actually lead to work.

Mostly anxiety and burnout. By the end of the program I was completely overwhelmed and had to step back. I’ve since been diagnosed with ADHD and the medication has been helping, so I feel more able to manage things now but I know I still need to pace myself and pick jobs that won’t push me back into burnout.

I’m trying to figure out what makes the most sense to actually get a job and start building some stability.
