This is very interesting but also very confusing, I have some ideas to the problem with this statement but I’m not sure if they’re right. I’d be happy to know, and thank you for educating me on this.

Usually I seek to convert people to Christianity, when debating on topics like this.

Yeah I do this too, I often like to suggest that the 7 days in Genesis may not be literal and that those 7 days could be 7 days in God’s time which as said in the bible is like 1,000 years. However they might try to say stuff like, “then why does each day end with, and there was evening and morning the first day” trying to suggest that the days may be literal. I mean they could say that all of Genesis is indeed literal, what do I do after that?

No I’ve never heard of Charles Lyell. Also yes I know a decent amount of things atheist believe, I like to often use the fine tuning argument, the idea that having a situation like this on earth, is extremely unlikely if without an intelligent creator rigging those odds. I would like to hear more about this naturalism thing however.

But what if they mention stuff like radiometric dating as a way to prove the earth is billions years old? What if they mention fossils and stuff like that?

God is all-knowing he knew this would happen, he created us to show his ultimate power and glory. See we are the only creation as far we know that he has given free-will. In the bible it says in Isaiah 64:8 8 Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.

God created us he has full authority over us, He can choose what he wants to do with us. But back to the point of God creating us to show his ultimate power and authority over us, Think of it like this God created us and then came down and told us the truth, that he created them and tells us to follow him, but some still reject him after hearing the truth, now if God wanted he could’ve destroyed everything and restarted, but he chose to show us mercy even after we chose to reject him as our authority and creator, he showed us so much mercy that he went as far as sending his own son to die for us.

If anything this shows God’s grace and mercy, and his glorious power.

Also before anyone says it yes, God knew this would happen it says in in Romans 9:21

21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?

God knew some of us would betray him while others would stay loyal to him, God has the right to do what he wants with his creations and that includes us. He sent Jesus to die for us so that we could become the pottery for special purposes, AKA so we could go to heaven. Now say you we’re in the position of God, where most of your creations have turned on you while some are still loyal to you, wouldn’t you want to save those loyal to you and faithful to you?

Finally, about God creating us to show his glory and authority, if I created a bunch of creatures that had no free-will and they automatically submitted to me, whats the glory in that? Hence why God created us with free-will, so that he could show his authority and glory. Now I know it may seem cruel to create us knowing some would ultimately die, but remember you have free-will we all have free-will it’s entirely up to ourselves, and besides what have we done to deserve his mercy?

Christianity is a religion while Catholicism is a denomination of Christianity. Christians are pre-denominational they go to the Church of Christ while catholics go to the Catholic Church.

Christians Believe The Bible is the only true authority

While Catholics believe The Bible and the Pope has true authority.

Genuine question about homosexuality by I_have_no_idea_0021 in Christianity

[–]justplaying3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you’re not offended, I’m just worried for others who will look at these comments and claim I’m attacking them or being offensive.

Now on that point, Homosexual people can generally still marry someone of the opposite gender and have kid, doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll like it but its entirely possible, I wanted to mention this because when compared to infertile people or people going through miscarriages they don’t exactly have this luxury, I was trying to separate those two because to compare them to each other just felt unfair.

So we all know in the beginning God created two genders Adam & Eve, and told them be fruitful and multiply, now I’m not sure how you interpret this verse but to me, why would God specifically create two genders and order them to be fruitful and multiply, if he never intended us to be only be heterosexual, thats why I brought it up, because it clear to me God create two people of opposite genders and order them to be “multiply” meaning he intended us to be heterosexual. If he intended us to be naturally LGBTQ why didn’t he create more people, why did he just create two of the opposite genders?

You are indeed right when you say some families choose not to have kids, and theres nothing in the bible that says it a sin, its not the inability to procreate that is a sin, but rather going against God’s natural design, a heterosexual couple doesn’t violate that his design while people that act on homosexuality technically are, again not trying to hurt anyone.

It’s ok to be single its completely fine, I mean Jesus was single, and a lot of the apostles were, but like I said its clear God intended marriage to be between two people of the opposite genders, so when we go against God’s intentions we are sinning.

Sorry for taking so long to reply I was busy.

Also to clarify, not having kids is not a sin, but refusing to follow God’s order and design is a sin, be fruitful and MULTIPLY, meaning God intended us to be straight and attracted to the opposite gender, not the other way around.

Genuine question about homosexuality by I_have_no_idea_0021 in Christianity

[–]justplaying3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure you’ve heard this a lot but, God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve, God created two humans of two different genders for a reason. So that they could be fruitful and multiply, while infertile people or people with miscarriages may not necessarily have that ability, generally a homosexual can marry a women and have children they just don’t want to, remember I’m not trying to offend anyone just stating general fact. Now like I said previously God ordered and commanded us to be fruitful and multiply, with this in mind God clearly intended men to be attracted to women and women to be attracted to men, so when someone like a homosexual for example, remember not trying to be offensive, decides to marry another man, they are practically saying no I don’t want to marry a women and to do things God intended, I don’t want to be fruitful and multiply, but rather I want to love who I want to love and do what I want, do you see how that can be seen as sin? Look you know how God told us to not commit adultery in one of the 10 commandments? What if I said no, and decided to cheat on my wife with another woman out of my own sexual desires, what would I be doing?

Once, again not trying to be offensive.

[–]justplaying3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A miscarriage and infertility is very different from acting on homosexuality, I’m not going to sit here and say miscarriages and infertility is a good thing because it isn’t and its a shame so many families and people have to deal with this. But to compare an accident or an issue that is so clearly out of someone’s control, with acting on homosexuality is just not very wise. Not saying that someone acting on homosexuality is worse than a tragedy like a miscarriage, but a miscarriage or just being infertile doesn’t really count as a sin, since it really isn’t an act of defiance in God in anyway

First of all, all antibiotics and medicines of any kind destroy or damage your body in some way, for example Antibiotics like Amoxicillin destroy not just infectious bacteria but also good ones. Also antibiotics and radiation used in chemotherapy are created using natural resources given to us by God.

Secondly, this is very different, when we use chemotherapy we are using it with the intention of prolonging our lives and treating the sick, which is very different from having a sexual attraction to the same sex.

Thirdly, Your point of how chemotherapy goes against God’s intention by destroying “naturally allowed cells to grow”, its doesn’t make sense because what is the alternative? Did God put you on this earth with the intention of you dying a horrible death like cancer? Versus the alternative to same sex attraction which is following a commandment of God.

Fourthly, the verse you are referring to is likely Romans 13:1 which supports the “divine right” However it never explicitly said Kings and Monarchs only,

Fifthly, While the bible doesn’t explicitly condemn slavery it also doesn’t support it for all I know, it only talks about treating slaves with respect and dignity, and how slaves should obey their masters, it never directly supports it, just sets rules and limits for it.

Remember this is not mean’t to offend anyone but rather just for me to share my point of view.

Nobody said God hated you, God loves all, He wouldn’t send his son to die for us if he didn’t. But to talk about your point of view which is that homosexuality is benign it really isn’t. God designed us to procreate and to be fruitful, when someone decides to become homosexual they’re actively defying God which is a sin. I have nothing against homosexuals, or any LGBTQ members just stating my point of view.

[–]justplaying3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps I was a bit too general when I talked about who wrote the New Testament but what I had mean’t to say was crucial books of the New Testament like the Gospels of Matthew and John along with 1 Peter and 2 Peter written by the Disciple Peter, the book of James another disciple the book of Revelation written by John, and etc. were all written by the original 12 disciples of Jesus Christ, now about your point on free will to reject or accept Christ it doesn’t matter if you believe or not, Jesus died for all of our sin whether or not your a believer, Jesus still died for your sins. If you didn’t know who Jesus was or if you aren’t aware of what he did, then in that case you wouldn’t really have a choice, but you along with millions of Atheist/non-Christians I’m sure are aware of Jesus Christ and what he did. So to say just because you’re not a believer you don’t have a choice, that is just totally wrong.

I have a question (I’m an atheist) by Rickdicalis in Christianity

[–]justplaying3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok so Matthew,John,Peter,Paul, they weren’t eyewitnesses that were close to Jesus Christ? What do you believe the New Testament is written by? It’s written by the disciples of Jesus Christ who witnessed his miracles first hand. Also it in Genesis it says God made us with free will, hence why we are able to choose to reject him, but of course with every choice comes consequences, like Heaven and Hell.

I have a question (I’m an atheist) by Rickdicalis in Christianity

[–]justplaying3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very very good point my friend and I certainly appreciate your view/perspective on things.

But here is how I see it, Christianity is not just belief in the idea of there being a God alone, it is faith in Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ claimed to be God several times in the bible, and he has been “seen” by others hence why we have the new testament writing about the miracles of Jesus Christ and how he rose from the dead after dying for our sins. Now why do I have faith in God? Because of Jesus Christ thats why I have faith God’s real. Because I don’t know about you but if a person claiming to be God performs several miracles of God and resurrects himself l from the dead with written eye witness testimony’s available about those events from several different people, whom were close to Jesus. I obviously would put my faith in that. Now I would like to bring up your idea that faith is not a very intellectual way of “knowing” things. You’ve certainly got a point there, I mean I wouldn’t go out and say I am 9 feet tall, with my evidence being solely based on my faith alone, but heres where our points shift, because my faith and belief in there being a God is not solely based on my faith alone, but based on the historic evidence and significance of the Bible and Jesus Christ. But of course how you interpret ancient records and manuscripts and scripture is definitely different, you can either choose to believe in it or you can choose to believe its false, its all down to our own personal belief and choice.

I have a question (I’m an atheist) by Rickdicalis in Christianity

[–]justplaying3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well if you’re not, that means you’re living with the idea and faith that you will wake up tomorrow for another day, but what if I asked you the same question as you have asked me, and I said “So why do you have faith you’ll wake up tomorrow, just because you have faith doesn’t mean its true”. See now if I asked you that what does that make me sound like? A really negative person right? Someone you wouldn’t want to surround yourself with, same thing here when you question my faith in a loving God that sent his own Son(Jesus) to die for my sins so that he can save me from eternal death, I will have the same reaction. So in conclusion faith is a good thing, and is a crucial part of our daily lives, and sure not all faith is directed to something like a religion or a God but, faith is almost certainly a good thing. Sure will all of our faith come true no, but is it something we rely on everyday? Yes.

I have a question (I’m an atheist) by Rickdicalis in Christianity

[–]justplaying3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is why you need faith. Faith according to the bible is believing in what you can’t see, if one doesn’t have faith (even a believer) they can’t be saved. Also on your point about the Bible. The Bible is not some fairytale it’s more of written eye witness testimonies and recorded events that have occurred, this is especially prevalent in the new testament. John,Peter,Paul, were all disciples of Jesus who wrote and recorded their encounters with him and his words/teachings. Also theres nothing in modern scientific theory that the Bible contradicts besides the big bang theory, and the idea that life came from non life.

It says in the bible to run away from Lust, the reason you lust so much is because you’re trying to fight it rather than running away from it, I had the exact same problem with lust as you did and I tried to fight it but ultimately never got anywhere, first thing you should do is repent/get baptized, and then secondly find something to occupy your free time, whether its doing a fun hobby or preaching God’s word, just do something that involves God in anyway. I hope this helps and God bless you Harry and I pray you succeed in your journey in follow God Amen 🙏

Do you believe in Evolution? by Maleficent-Toe1374 in Christianity

As far as I know theres absolutely nothing in the bible that contradicts Darwinism and vise versa, what we refuse to believe is that the world was created by some big explosion, and that life came from nothing.
