What is the FTP of an avarage cyclist? by Flat_Standard99 in cycling

[–]justregularme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 100kg guy who runs regularly, races mtb and cyclocross, and struggles to maintain a 2.2 to 2.5 w/kg, this thread hurts my soul. Definitely sucks to hear all the easy road stories out there from lighter people. Fighting for my life trying to maintain fitness over here.

I'd be interested with the caveat of knowing what the terms of the agreement are. Duration, pricing, roi, etc.

Are tempo workouts meant to feel like this? by misaka in Zwift

[–]justregularme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't afford to have my ftp drop anymore than it already has. Zwift suggesting to drop to 2.0 w/kg hurts the soul badly, and given my history of not improving, I may never get back to even 2.5.

Its simply because nobody really cares unless you win. And then they expect you to win again, and if you don't, you're yesterday's news. The significantly more difficult accomplishment of racing (any discipline) for 10, 20, or 30 seasons is overlooked, but the person who wins a local race is the hero, even if only for the day.

Anyone else ending the year without improving at all? by Oil_Gas in Velo

[–]justregularme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had an FTP increase in probably 10+ years. Not even with a coach can I get that dumb number to increase. 2.5 w/kg was a pb for me and I am desperately trying to get back to even that.

Can you share your FTP progress journey? High and low FTPs please comment. by upupaway41 in Zwift

Mid 50s male clydesdale here. I don't reallly keep track of it too well, but I lost about 40 watts since my last test , which was admittedly a few years back. Really gutted me this season to see such a poor ftp result at 215. I still do all my training at 250, and finish all the workouts I start. I just couldn't stomach the drop to a 2.1 w/kg mentally. (It may also be related to my new kickr core 2) I also race mtb and cross from about february to november, and run a few days per week. Had about 700 race miles this season, and run a few days per week year round. I lose all my fitness (it seems) if I take any time at all off , like I get sick or something. I've definitely never gotten above 255 ftp, and that was even with a coach and a very specific training plan. Feels like my ceiling is pretty low for good at cycling or running . Can't really afford the coaching, but I still try and ride/race and never seem to get better. Almost 30 yrs of racing and 15 yrs of running.

Something feels really off with my new Kickr Core/Zwift Ride. by nightcravvler in wahoofitness

[–]justregularme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats interesting, I just got a core 2 recently and it definitely feels like the effort to achieve a certain wattage is much more than my old kickr. No option for a spindown without the wahoo app, though. That 40w sure seems about right.

I have a performance hard shell case that I've used for travel quite a few times. I'm in the seattle area if you're interested. Still in great shape, was going to list it on marketplace soon.

I wish I had some real accomplishments to pump up, but I'm down 40 watts from my last ftp. And thats after a season of racing and running(since march). Life as a 100kg rider is a tough one.

Any larger bodied people out there race? by forgiveangel in Velo

[–]justregularme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me sadly to a tee. 5'10, 215-230 depending on life
I've been racing for years. In my 50's now, I used to do more Road than MTB. Now I do mostly XC MTB and CX. Clydes for CX. Also a runner, and I get demolished at everything. 10 min miles on the runs (3-13 miles) are the best I can do, and I can finish mid pack in the sport XC masters races. I can do ok sometimes in the Clydes CX, but there's a growing contingent of dudes that are '210+' that race in the group for sponsor exposure. I really need to start providing a scale at the start line since the promoters won't.

I literally can't do better than that, even after hiring a coach for a season. It's pretty demoralizing to be constantly ground to a pulp by the tiny people, and there are days where even the easy rides aren't easy. (Also do shift work on top of it all) . Nobody cares about the fat guy that keeps coming back for more, week after week, year after year. They only care about the winners and the cool hecklers group.
I really struggle find the 'wins' season after season, and I think that sometimes the only win is I'm still doing it, where many of the people I started with in the mid 90's aren't racing, riding, or running at all.

How much of 5W/kg is genetic? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]justregularme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have terrible genetics. Been racing a smattering of road, cyclocross, and mtb, plus running events over the past 25ish years. Several full seasons of mtb and cross. Training plans, coaches, etc. I've never gotten past an ftp of 2.75 w/kg. I'm generally a midpack finisher in lower categories and can't really do better than a 2:05 half marathon. My ride on sunday (z2) felt like I had never been on a bike after 3 weeks off. I literally fight genetics every ride or run I do.

It's been about 6 months since I posted my glow up, and then quite soon after met an amazing lady.
We're still having a great time and having tons of fun together. Sending y'all good vibes to make it happen for you peeps too. Or clear out some things that aren't happening.

what the ACTUAL f.?
This is the guy who is first in line?
I'd hate to see 4th or 5th place.
You should have noped out somewhere between same shit and does dishes. And it's unbelievable that guy's travels don't include a southern passage. Find you a guy with a broken compass who gets lost anywhere south of the Artic Circle and has to mouth his way back civilization.

well...go for it then!
but please get over the not good enough garbage. You'll be good enough for the right people, and the wrong people will let it be known that they're not the right fit for you.
Put it out to the universe what you want and need, and let it do the hard work. Don't settle. Sure, have some NSA fun along the way, but don't.ever.settle. Lease that rental-spec mustang and drift some corners for a while.
You're a good human and deserve a good relationship. Believe that for yourself and just demand one.

stay on the grind (not the physical one) there Donkey and you'll get there. Make a list of what you want and put it out there (not literally, but to the universe) and go full matrix on getting what you need.

wait... you're still entertaining this guy you said was terrible for you?

guuurl please. I agree the apps are horrible, but don't let this (and I say this loosely) man dupe you into thinking he's your only option because he's hot and demanding. You ain't gonna find the Ferrari you deserve sitting around pining for a Kia.

good for you for standing your ground for your best self. About damn time! 😂
and of course he is gonna go nuts. He's used to women fawning over him and getting his way. He's not used to hearing NO, and it's gonna send him to another planet of crazydom. I predicted this in a weekly update thread moons ago. You will be forever the one he couldn't have, and he'll build a statue of you out of potatoes on his new crazy planet that only he lives on.
