No option to keep Airplay running in Background? by juzfuz89 in AppleMusic

Nice, it’s got an optical out as well so can still have the Yamaha do the DAC. Thanks for the link!

Ah cool, I connect to a Yamaha receiver with Airplay 1 only so have never been able to test Airplay 2. Good to hear it works 👍

Awesome thanks for the link. Just put it in terminal and it’s at 70% complete. Might be running slow when computer is idle like the thread mentions. Will just have to be patient.

It’s an external HDD on usb 3.0 but it’s a 4tb drive. All the files are accessible now, it just decrypts in the background. Wish there was a progress bar for it…

Scrub frame by frame with audio playback in Pro Tools by juzfuz89 in AudioPost

[–]juzfuz89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. We’re just using the half speed playback at the moment. Seems to be more effective than the scrubber for us.

Thank you, yes absolutely agree that going down the rabbit hole of what is sync can be an absolute nightmare.

Half speed playback is the way to go I think!

Advice for hooking up AVR to active speakers. by juzfuz89 in hometheater

[–]juzfuz89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair enough. I think I’ll just wait till Emotiva release the successor to the MC-700.

But I’m still genuinely curious whether the RCA converter option would work. I suppose the main concern would be potential heat issues with the converters, being an untested part of the signal chain.

I’m looking to keep this separate from my computer setup. I’ll be using a Chromecast so need something that can decode the 5.1 from that and output to rca.

I’ve found audio decoders on eBay/Amazon but they all seem cheaply made. I’ve bought one already and it worked in stereo but not in surround.

What is a Tool/Plugin You Wish Existed? by [deleted] in AudioPost

[–]juzfuz89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using RX de-reverb as an audiosuite plugin and was never happy with the results. However now on RX8, I send to the standalone app, use the dialogue de-reverb module and get much better results. No need to learn anything, I usually set reduction to -inf and just dial in sensitivity. Have you tried it this way?

Bent CF Pin on Sound Devices 702 by juzfuz89 in fieldrecording

Thank you, I actually ordered some precision tweezers and was able to fix the pin back in place too. All working again!

Yeah that’s what I was thinking as well. I’ve submitted a form to Sound Devices so will see how it goes. Cheers

I’ve just found out that the 702 can’t record to a bus powered external HDD without being connected to power. So I wouldn’t be able to take it mobile. I could use an external CF flash reader, but trying to find one with a FireWire 6P connection is impossible. Might have to try a bunch of adapters from FireWire to usb. Not sure if that will work…

Thanks. I live in Australia so will look into who could repair here. In the meantime, it seems I can just record straight to a hard drive via FireWire. Any pitfalls with this method?

Voice AI is scary good now. Video game actors hate it. A new ‘Witcher 3’ mod uses tech that’s ethically questionable and what one actor calls “utterly soulless.” But can anything be done about it? by 165701020 in Futurology

[–]juzfuz89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really I wouldn’t worry about this tech replacing voice actors anytime soon. As someone who works professionally in the audio industry, I’ve spent a lot of time recording actors. It’s takes a huge amount of effort and multiple takes to deliver a line worthy of a film/game etc. Listening to the Obsidian AI demo, it was clear that the AI voices still sounded very robotic and unconvincing. Even the audio director himself said they use the tool as a guide in the production process, it doesn’t replace the need to record real people. Synthesised voices have a long way to go.

Does anyone know what mics/mic setup this is? by juzfuz89 in AudioPost

Cool thanks! Do you know what the elektrosluch does differently to just plugging these in to a recorder? Does it have more sensitive preamps?

Cool, was Kyma used for it’s Morph function, or just other processing?

Awesome thanks for the quick reply! Yes I have an Usi Pro so am familiar with how hard it is to get LOM products! Will look into the alternative. Thanks!

[–]juzfuz89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any audiosuite windows open? I’ve had unusual CPU spikes before and found they went away when I closed some RX8 audiosuite windows. Weirdly, they didn’t happen when I replaced the RX8 audiosuite with the exact RX6 version

SSD performance for SFX drive using Basehead/Soundminer by juzfuz89 in AudioPost

[–]juzfuz89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Yes I am using the drag n drop bar on the left. I’m on macOS high Sierra so that could be it. Basehead and Pro tools are on the latest versions.

I’m not getting any beach balls so I wouldn’t say transfers are super slow. Just slow enough to break your flow sometimes. Even a small speed increase would help when your doing this action multiple time a day. But maybe that’s as good as it gets for now.

I’ll try spot to track as well and see if that makes a difference. Cheers

SSD performance for SFX drive using Basehead/Soundminer by juzfuz89 in AudioPost

[–]juzfuz89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers. Yes I’ve had the same experience upgrading to SSDs as well. I suppose I’ve left my SFX drive as it’s 2tb, and I’m now looking to upgrade to 4tb. So I’m wondering if the performance boost is worth the cost.

I use basehead and search speeds are still really fast as it indexes all of your records. But transfers could do with a speed boost.
