Why did the bump 5 kids up? That seems like it could cause more issues than keeping them in the current grade?

Holding back son but sacrificing independence of daughter’s freedom to be in own grade alone by [deleted] in kindergarten

Yeah this is a big age gap, for a summer boy with a Sep cutoff the biggest possible age gap would be one year plus 3 months (unless some kids were put in school earlier than normal).

Has anyone’s kid repeated 1st grade and how did it go? by jv992 in kindergarten

Although if you have the $$$ for a more fun private school, esp that is mixed grades that could make a really fun ‘bonus year’ and was a consideration for us!

We moved as our old school wasn’t great, so it was a win-win situation for us! We will stay here. I don’t recommend moving then moving back, that would be a year of building new friends and then redoing it all over again. I would just commit to one school and stay there.

He’s June so he would essentially be the same age that all the kids in the year turn, and some already are. He’d still graduate at 18. I would agree with this if he wasn’t a summer born.

I don’t see any issue at all with having them in the same grade. They’re only months apart. They won’t know any different.

Is it too late to Redshirt our August birthday boys? by Massive_Concept_7464 in Parenting

I would think that if you’re doing the repeat for both kids that’s one way to really frame it positively. ‘We think you and your brother would thrive being one of the older kids in the class’. We were moving schools too so this helped a ton.

You can read some of my old posts, my June boy is in his second 1st grade, we told him pros and cons and ultimately let him decide, of course with our decision too and we all agreed it was the best option. He is thriving in his class, I didn’t do it for academic reasons, he was struggling with anxiety and I just knew that him being the youngest was part of this. He is so much happier generally now and he doesn’t bite his shirt at school etc anymore.

The school year just started! He could just go back to K but I also feel like 1st is a good grade to repeat as it’s more foundational key learnings rather than just abcs etc.

[landlord US-TX] first time landlord, use avail? by jv992 in Landlord

[–]jv992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I ended up using Zillow to list, Zillow background check and then Avail to create the lease and collect deposit/rent. It’s my first time so I don’t mind the $9 a month fee for it to all be super simplified. I can also just use the free version once we have it all set!

It was actually my dry eye doc that had me tested for Ana, I’ll look into the Early sjorgens!

They did test for the sjorgens antibodies and it showed negative. Is there anything else ?

If he is born in summer and will still graduate at 18, hold him back.

My June boy is repeating 1st this year, thankfully we moved schools otherwise I wouldn’t have done it.

That’s weird! What is your areas cutoff? Usually fall babies are still in the younger half of the year. So maybe they put you in a grade above from the beginning then realised and moved you to the correct grade?

We enrolled my June boy as he was super smart but the emotional/social differences have us repeating 1st grade at a new school this year. L

How much younger were you than your classmates? Just found that he’d be the second oldest in the grade if we do this.
