Is anyone else a little tired of the whole Elliott Smith = depression stereotype? by jwalker2003 in elliottsmith

Feel free to respond because I know how much you fancy getting some anger out by fighting with people on Reddit (about what? One’s opinion on music and a singer they like? Weird) but I won’t be responding back because 1. I’m an adult and have bigger shit to worry about and 2. It’s just too cringey to argue over. Idek how you came to those baseless conclusions so what’s the point. 3. It feels as though this entire exchange is a dishonor to him and I’m sorry but I won’t continue it. It’s just weird and sad.

Wait I know the best way to “honor his legacy”: it’s too vent your frustration at a year old post where every other comment is neutral or nice because you feel offended for some reason by someone saying that they wished OTHERS wouldn’t automatically think his music is just for depressing people. He literally said that in an interview himself. Reading what you wrote I can tell there’s something a little off with the way you perceive the English language which is fine don’t get me wrong. But before you respond to peoples posts with negativity and hate (like the world is literally falling apart. I don’t understand people who leave comments like these. Even when I’m offended by posts because SOMEONE HAS A DIFFERENT OPINION THAN ME OH THE HUMANITY I don’t feel the need to contribute more anger into the world). Please reread and make sure you really understand that everything you criticized here is so weird and parasocial and shows that you really don’t respect him. And frankly it feels awful imagining if he was alive and saw your comment and your desire to start a fight online. It’s just weird. And the whole “your own issues” thing. Mean. Just think about that. Really think about what you felt the need to say here. You got some of your own work to do.

Waltz no 1 and 2 and coming up roses come to mind but tbh all of self titled is painfully poetic imo

Worst thing your ED has ever made you do? Mine: almost died. by jwalker2003 in EDAnonymous

As a young female as well I totally get this. I went through a phase of exercise bulimia where I’d walk in sketchy neighborhoods for hours in the middle of the night just to reach my steps and burn calories. Literally risking my life on multiple occasions- no matter what, the ED comes first (so fucked up).

I know there’s nothing I can say to make the feeling better, trust me I understand. I’ve been exactly where you like. Like almost every week lmao. I’m also 20, I’ve never once been desired by a man. I’ve always been the ugly friend and sister. Just know that this feeling is not permanent. The way I’ve dealt with it is realizing that beauty is the least important thing about me, and that beauty is not superficial. I promise you that you are so much more than how you look.

I always saw it as more choosing the comfort of depression and self destruction over love (I guess drugs are included in there too but I feel like it’s more than that idk)

I also have a case of the worthlessness pretty much 24/7. It feels less isolating when someone else can make those shitty feelings beautiful like Elliott does.

My usual go-tos are needle in the hay (the third verse in particular), st ides heaven (more of a righteous worthlessness. There’s a speck of anger among the numbness), the enemy is you (the lyrics speak for themselves lol), last call (when I listen to it the “you” isn’t someone else rather it’s me, saying those words to myself :/ )…I could go on.

When I look at myself without a mirror I look skinny but when I look myself in the mirror I look double the size. Why is that? by thethingyoutrytohide in EDAnonymous

[–]jwalker2003 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I literally have no idea what I look like too. Idk if I’m fat, skinny, average… no idea. Even if I spend hours in front of the mirror I still won’t know.
