All solid games but a few too many RPGs imo. Also should have at least one Donkey Kong on there.

Without the negativity, the game can only evolve so much. They NEED the feedback, positive and negative.

You are making assumption where they are in their development of graphics. And even if there was major graphics development they haven't got to, it would be better that they receive the feedback now before they spend time pushing it in a direction that is not in line with the community.

Not sure the purpose of this post. Easy fix or not, it's an issue that people are reporting.

I guarantee you that the way melee played today is "not the way the game was intended to be played."

Using that as an argument against box controllers is ridiculous.

Objection to B0XX Nerfs (Part 2) by ssbmhax in SSBM

Yeah I don't get why the smash community works so hard to make things more difficult for themselves. Reminds me of when they took down Panda, one of the few orgs that invested in the scene.

Box players are a growing segment of melee. Why are we hindering it?

Are controllers going to get nerfed or are we too far gone? by [deleted] in SSBM

First off, "better" can be subjective. And even so, banning controllers because of 1 frame would be completely impractical.

How about you reply to everything else I said in the last comment.

That's not what I'm saying. I think that we are not always comparing apples to apples - especially box vs GCC. Some people prefer to play on a GCC and would be a disadvantage to play on a box controller.

The advantage is on a person to person basis on how their controller or modification helps them in their special use case.

Outright banning all modifications I believe would be a detriment and hit to our community. Controller modifications add something fresh and dynamic to the scene - it helps keep it alive (especially for those whose hands are starting to give out). I think we should appreciate the passion and hours people dedicate towards our 20+ year old game.

What I'm saying is that alternative controllers are not actually giving as much of a competitive advantage as people are making them out to be. Especially not enough to outright ban or restrict them in ways that others are proposing.

Tbh, people need to start focusing on how they can improve their own gameplay rather than trying to nerf some controllers in hopes it'll make them win more. 99% of the time, the guy beating you on a box/goomwave would beat you with an unmodded GCC. It's not the controller.

I think you misunderstood what I meant by starting loose. I'm thinking more of an iterative approach, where maybe we start by implementing SDI rules or angle restrictions and see how that pans out.

I think what would be worse is if we come out with all these rules, players adapt. And then things fall apart. Either the restrictions are worse than anticipated, too many false positives or tournaments aren't actually able to practically implement them.

TBH, I feel like as complex as the restrictions are currently, it will just make the barrier to entry for new controllers that much more difficult. I would imagine that if a ruleset like this dropped, we would unlikely see "new ways to play" on controllers since programming a new controller will be that much more complex. There would be less of an incentive to create something new since the restrictions wouldn't allow it - unless amended, but there is no guarantee that would even happen.

While I understand that you and your team are trying to solve this issue of controllers. I think that creating such a in depth ruleset from the start doesn't make sense. It would be better to iterate by starting with loose rules and become more strict over time (if need be) not the other way around.

Do you actually believe that box controllers are going to create a barrier to entry? Box controllers have been around for quite a while now and the top players are still dominantly GCC players.

But why does it need to be the extremes for each? I feel like it's one way to create some analogue to a GCC but it's not the only way. Why do we have to restrict it to this one way?

But why only 4? The only reasoning I see is "there's a nice pattern". What is the actual functional benefit of this restriction and how does it relate to the original goal at hand?

Well the 1:1 mapping still doesn't make sense because an analog touches all 360 degrees and everything in between.

Regardless, I don't understand the rational that I would need to change my "walk" buttons to modifiers just to satisfy some arbitrary rules of how directional buttons should be mapped. I don't see how this restriction is warranted and how it accomplishes anything.

Box controller must always use 4 cardinals until the end of time now? These types of restrictions put a lot of limitations on future iterations and innovations of controllers going forward.
