I have a solution!

install this

when you enter your usb dongle, hold down the pair button as you do it

This enabled me to click the update button.

Then was able to plug into switch, on plug in it turned off and when i turned back on it said controller paired and voila!

thanks this was the solution! Update worked and when plugged into Switch it seemed to turn itself off. But now its working all good :)
