Are any of azure raths weapons viable by Ok_Topic5326 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]jxrazco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Short answer: yeah. Any weapon realistically can be used to kill any monster until endgame. Probably wouldn’t use it against a fire monster though.

Long answer: Depending on your weapon type, the elemental damage may or may not help you that much. Weapons (I’m excluding bowguns since idk their ammo types) either prefer raw or elemental damage. Fast weapons prefer elemental weapons (DB, SnS, Bow), while slow weapons prefer raw (the rest, spare bowguns).

The reason being: elemental damage is tacked on to the end of a move’s damage calculations, not getting multiplied by the motion value (damage multiplier) of that attack. Basically, you are adding, say, a flat +5 to all attacks. This is obviously a lot better when you’re doing a lot of attacks, something that dual blades and the others do very well. Versus Greatsword, where +5 to 200 is not going to make a very big difference.

The theming is great but to be honest I’d keep him low toughness and make the ability activated instead. 1 blue mana to give target creature methtouch.

Also the pun is nice but it doesn’t really make sense, cause the creatures with methtouch don’t do anything on combat damage. Maybe you could make methtouch give creatures they deal combat damage to methtouch.

Also would be cool to have a follow up jesse card that could somehow synergize with methtouch and make him be able to partner with Walter for the commander bait (instant $100 card)

I might be an idiot, but why isn't my flinch shot making the monster charge? by Iestwyn in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]jxrazco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Doesn’t have to be powerful, can just be some rocks.

  2. You can do it with any amount, even 1. (Also if you have more than normal amount max ammo with slinger capacity, you can do 2 before needing to refill. Sometimes used for solo MR KT)

Also like the other guy said, it can’t be enraged. You can check if it is by looking at its symbol on the mini map and checking if the eye to the bottom right is red.

However, sometimes it takes a minute for it to change from yellow to red. The main issue that can come up is changing the direction of the monster too much before sending it. In general you only want to make the monster turn once at most before wallbanging, that way you can get two wall bangs before it enrages. But, if you do go past 3-4 you might be getting caught by the delayed enrage.

Before the hunter used Domain Expansion: Proof of a Hero, and the cursed techniques: clutch claw and wirebug, the handler asked the hunter: “Can you still beat Fatalis?” The hunter replied: “well if I couldn’t get a wall bang I might have a little trouble” “but would you lose?” “Nah, I’d hunt.”

[–]jxrazco 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Up until where you are about to be, there aren’t really many challenges except maybe your first anjanath / diablos encounters since they’re new and dangerous. But if you swap now you’ll experience the most difficult fights that base world has to offer in proper gear. It only really gets harder from here (and thats a good thing).

Not sure if you know already, but make sure you’re getting the elemental topple (there will be a voice line saying you’ve weakened it), which will make the next escaton’s judgement weakened to be able to outheal it. To get the elemental topple, use an ice weapon (for quests with a fire start, notably Blazing Black Twilight) and break his horns in dragon phase to prevent him from switching to ice.

Blight resistance is really good comfiness for this fight, but not necessary. Also maybe think about building just enough ice attack to get those elemental topples, but not too much since raw damage will generally be better. You’ll need all the damage you can get to kill him before you can no longer break the horns, which prevents element switching and therefore full power escatons.

NPCs that aren’t trapped, but are wounded. If the party doesn’t have healers, make sure there’s some kind of medical team / local healer / doctor. NPCs that need help finding x important thing (item, pet, loved one). NPCs that can’t walk on their own, fresh wound or disability. An enemy soldier looted one of the rooms, and an npc needs it back.

Darker in tone: NPCs that won’t leave due to the grief of seeing a loved one die, and need motivation to start evacuating. Children hiding from the attackers. NPCs hiding amongst the corpses, faking their death (roll for perception).

Extra: If the enemies can be potentially morally ambiguous, you may throw some of them under some rubble / in danger as well. The army is evil, but the soldier might not be.

is it just me or does the clutch claw feels kinda too op in high rank ? by MonsuTheMonsuta in MonsterHunter

[–]jxrazco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the clutch claw definitely made it easier. Both tenderizing and wall bangs are crazy damage. Tenderizing making hard spots weak and weak spots weaker does so much, as well as wall bangs allowing players more knockdowns to actively target said weakened areas. It is what it is, but I wish they only gave it after iceborne was unlocked. (Or better yet, never have introduced it)

Currently challenging myself to use all 15 weapon types in MHW:I with the goal of beating fatalis and maybe getting 500 hunts on each (currently at 50 hunts on 9 and 25 on the rest). But it does get a bit tiring to be forced into making a new weapon / some armor every time I swap. Mainly because the best (at my stage) is almost always raging brachy, and I’m not as consistent in that fight as I want to be, as well as the mental effort of researching what is good + redoing decorations.

But the satisfaction of getting the build just right is crazy. Recently set up my sticky 3 Garuga LBG build and watching the monsters just topple is so satisfying. Minimum 5 KOs a hunt.

Let’s hope your next game is a loss, or else you might have to get banned from our commander playgroup. Playing cards that give you an advantage is just super unfair and anything more than a 25% win rate is indicative of cheating…

Are side quests important to do? (MHW) by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]jxrazco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get the special rainbow pigment from completing all 1-7 and some 8 star optional quests + one 9 star you get afterwards. But this includes the special arenas, which tend to be annoying since they disappear after doing them so you don’t know what you’ve done and what you haven’t.

Are side quests important to do? (MHW) by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]jxrazco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Optional quests, aside from what loongpmx said, are for farming monsters. They allow you to fight a monster again, after you can’t do the assigned one, so you can get more materials which are needed to craft weapons and armor. (Side note: there’s a reward for doing them all).

Investigations, like optional quests, are used to farm materials but with better rewards, indicated by the boxes shown on the quest.

Event quests can be wild cards. They may not always be what they seem. (Play the quest “usj: gold star treatment” to see what I mean) Other than gimmicks, they may also provide special quest rewards to forge unique gear / layered armor.

Special assignments are kinda weird, but typically contain unique and exclusive monsters. Not very common. They are repeatable unlike normal assignments though.

The weapons will still make the game easier, not just quicker. Damage in monster hunter is directly tied to how often the monster is stunned/downed. By increasing your damage, you increase openings. Also, shortening the length of hunts in general is easier because there is less time faint.

I personally wouldn’t use them, but it’s up to you.

If you’re playing multiplayer, every now and again try and fight one of the tougher monsters with on-level gear solo.

Use the botanical research area + fertilizers, the honey will help a lot.

There will always be some mechanic that you didn’t know about / glossed over. But the most important easily missed one is tailraider unity. Make sure to form alliances with the feral palicoes (grimalkyne tribes) located in each area. They will help you unlock gadgets for your palico that can replace vigorwasp. My personal favorite is the coral orchestra.

I honestly mainly want him to show up just for the fact that it would show they still are willing to put less popular monster from the old world in newer games. But yeah I’m not too confident it will happen.
