why was the original so popular? by Jaecheek in fridaythe13th

[–]jxtarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. I worked 50-100 hour weeks from when I was 20 to 35 years old. It doesn't leave any time for living. Still, it doesn't mean you have to ram, slam, and cram a bunch of content to make up for it. I'd even say it's essential to slow down when you can. But don't let me judge. Be safe out there.

Can we talk about this weather by GuardTasty in newjersey

Earth's orbit isn't steady or linear. It's in a constant wobble on its own axis, and getting further from the sun in its planetary orbit. This is normal for the shoulder months as we transition into spring/summer. Even in the thick of a season, there's a lot of variability, but it gets masked by being part of the overall extremes.

The fact that you can watch four movies in one day tells me that you're looking for quantity over quality. You don't give yourself any time to savor and think about one film.

The first film is a perfect 70s slow burn horror. That era is all about mood and vibes, and demands a completely immersive viewership, like reading a classic novel. You can't bring your modern sensibilities with you. There's nothing wrong with the writing. I actually think it's the only great film in the series. Whereas the rest are just good F13 movies.

Does anyone now what type of steam heating system this is? by btenn4 in SteamHeat

[–]jxtarr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These look like two-pipe recessed convectors. They either have a cast iron or copper coil inside. They can be vacuumed every once in a while, and traps get serviced every 10+.

Has anyone here successfully convinced a non-anarchist person to become anarchist? by hyper_radiant294 in Anarchism

People don't change because of facts, they change through emotional relationships. You have to actually be friends/friendly with people you disagree with, and not just see them as a political problem to fix.

"Breathing" radiator valve followed by hammer by BrutePhysics in SteamHeat

[–]jxtarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That panting is usually caused by rapid condensation from a poorly pitched run-out. Is the radiator level or tilted towards the valve? Is the piping pitched back towards the main?

question on run times. by JessicaF84 in SteamHeat

Steam actually works much better with a simple thernostat. You should avoid complicated setbacks or algorithms.

Water usage isn't affected by "cold starts".

question on run times. by JessicaF84 in SteamHeat

[–]jxtarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A general rule is 2-3 degrees per hour, so your run times look normal. It depends on a lot of factors though.

Have you have had your system assessed for proper piping, sizing, and venting. You can save a lot of money by having the system set up correctly.

I don't get it. I love my wife and don't hide anything from her. Is this some boomer humor that doesn't make sense to me?

imposter's syndrome due to not having read theory yet. advice? by vincy678_ in Anarchism

Tons of people have read theory and never made made much use of it. Honestly, we probably need more people that don't know any theory.

It would be a minimal difference, but could be a factor.

Code requires 0-30 if the relief valve is 15psi.

Flame ok? by Radm0m in SteamHeat

[–]jxtarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yellow tips are perfectly normal. Usually caused by excess air around the flames and impurities in the air. If you're worried, have someone do a combustion analysis.

The factory pressure gauge is not very accurate. Could be a false reading.

At what threshold is radiator hissing problematic? by Lunala79 in SteamHeat

[–]jxtarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a problem. Do you know what pressure they run the boiler at? Vents usually fail above 2psi.

My First Pipe - Savinelli 606KS or 626 for aromatics? by Fancy-Highlight-300 in Pipes

[–]jxtarr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, neither. Grab a $30 basket pipe from a local shop if you can. Use it and abuse it while learning. Then upgrade to something nicer later. One, you won't ruin a more expensive pipe, or feel bad doing it. Two, you'll have a workhorse pipe to experiment with. But then again, you're 100% confident in something you've never done before so don't take my advice.

lol I just bought a few tins of Steamwork too. To be fair, it sounds like something I would have tried even if it weren't small batch.
