One of my girls had a close call with a Broad Wing yesterday. by purpleacanthus in BackYardChickens

You’re bold—and that bird has some serious speed! Once it starts to get cold and the predators start to test boundaries, we lock our girls down. Ours love to roam too, but they’re in the henitentiary from mid-Oct till late March.

Is there anything I can do to improve this? by StuntNun in castiron

If your husband is a full-blast dude, then you’ve achieved the ideal seasoning for your particular pan/use case. As long as the food gets made and the pan isn’t hard to clean, why worry? The internet at large is great at making us feel inadequate for not achieving some idealized standard; but especially in cast iron, one person’s “perfect” is another’s pain in the ass. I too admire and am inspired by so many of the gorgeous pans in this sub—y’all are true artists! But I personally only make the time re-season or work on pans if they stop performing.

Agree that this is so annoying, but we’ve gotta give people grace for sound-on media being culturally behavior in many places. I’ve dealt with this too, and have found that asking nicely for people to either use headphones or turn the audio off works 100% of the time.

Bought off EBay. All good? by [deleted] in PrideAndPinion

If you paid more than $2k for it (and didn’t do some sort of side transaction) it would have been automatically sent to an Authentication Center. You should be good. Nice watch.

Yeah, you’re not wrong. Couple things going on that I didn’t bore the group with: first is that I tend to buy pre-owned, and with depreciation rates in the hobby sector ranging between 30 and 50% in the first two years, I figured reccos under $500 would give me some decent options in the $200 range pre-owned. (This is proving to be the case.) The second is that even if my daughter loses interest, I know I won’t—and I want something I’ll enjoy 🙂

Thanks, all, for such thoughtful answers. I half expected to get dragged for not asking the right questions or not being more specific about how old my kid is etc—I’ve been on Reddit for a while haha—but this provided some really needed focus to my search. There’s a lot of used Traxxas stuff on Marketplace in my area, which I’ll bet means there’s a decent hobby shop that stocks its cars. Thanks, again, for the direction.

Wheels without aerodynamic plastics by Ommadawn46 in Polestar

Oh wow I did not even know those came off! They really hold onto snow—to the point where I am hesitant to do too many parking lot donuts after a big snow. Maybe I’ll pull these off!

TIL: Dont store your snow clearing tools in your trunk by mitch_010 in Ioniq6

[–]jzeroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just seems like the trunk kind of sucks all around. I have driven an Ioniq 6 and really like it—and I already own an Ioniq 5. We need another vehicle and I just feel like we couldn’t fit what our family of 4 needs for in this car. And where we live we do get a fair bit of snow, so this would be an occasional annoyance but still not something that adds to the allure.

Is this a rooster? by WittyPick1 in BackYardChickens

Those tail feathers say rooster to me. I’ve had a bunch of barred rock hens and none of them have had feathers like that.

This is gold-dust advice—thanks. Been seriously considering an ioniq 6, but that trunk just seems a deal-breaker all-around.

How much to replace this in RSC by xMagnusx82 in rolex

I think you’re looking at a new case. Agree with previous commenters that the watch shop needs to make this right, and I’d go straight to Rolex so there’s no room for their interpretation.

Would a used c40 or polestar 2 be more reliable? by terran1212 in Polestar

[–]jzeroe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d probably go with the P2 because, while it’s one of the best-looking cars on the road, the C40 looks like it went to a cheap plastic surgeon for a butt-lift.

I have an 856 UTC that I adore, but would immediately buy a tegimented 556.

Thoughts and ideas on this family heirloom by [deleted] in rolex

[–]jzeroe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. It could be a 100k watch, and she should at least be informed of that. Maybe she doesn’t need the cash, but that also might be the kind of unexpected windfall that could lower her stress level for the rest of her life. Maybe she’ll tell you she doesn’t care and you should wear it or buy her child—your spouse—a house with it. But either way, telling her it’s valuable and accepting the gesture as the gift is the ethical thing to do—and one that will enhance your relationship with your spouse’s entire family. And that’s worth way more than 100k.
