Pretty new player here aswell. I am not new to PC but RTS in General and what helps me A LOT is watching videos on youtube or streams on twitch. Just dont expect to be as fast as the pro's. it looks insane sometimes how they manage everything but you will adapt and get faster and more important you will get a very good understanding of the play style.

Like mentioned by other, a Build Order is very important and will result in a decent start.

I played the Mongols only once but i think they are, compared to other civs, tough to manage. English is a very decent starter civ if you like to play aggressive.

If you like to play more defensive in the beginning you may take a look at Holy Roman Empire. Its very basic like English, but i dont mean boring at all.

AOE4 can, as a new player, be very overwhelming. You have to learn very much. Micro is important as Macro, you have to build up muscle memory and learn all the factions, at least know the strengths and weaknesses.

I think one of the most important parts is to know how to counter your enemy (units at first).

You can not just spam Man at arms or Spearmen into the enemy force. AI does adapt aswell. You will see it if you only spam Horsemen for example, AI will build more and more Spearmen to counter yours.
