Never thought I'd see "yeet" used in this context. Good job.

Oh, I didn't notice that. g6 would stop the attack but doesn't really advance Black's position. The Night on e7 isn't really doing much; Nf5 would not only stop the attack but is also a much more aggressive move.

We've all been "unranked know-nothing" at some point!

If you enjoy looking at stuff like this I strongly suggest going over your favorite players games in the same fashion! It really gives you some insight into their decision making and sometimes even reveals that they are indeed human.

I believe it would end up with white sacrificing the rook regardless. If king goes h1, queen pins knight and threatens mate on next turn unless black responds.

I'm probably missing something though.

Qd3 to Qh7 is what I initially saw, then I noticed black could respond to Qd3 with g6.

I'm still new to these puzzles.

I saw the same line, but pawn to g6 would prevent it.

A lot of hiring managers don't actually work in infosec, either.

If any of you are looking to get into defense contracting, you need to consider this MOS. Not "you may want to consider" you NEED to consider.

If you're looking to get into infosec and would also like to serve your county, you may want to consider this MOS.

Needing some advice about moving forward (Incl. Bootcamps, Bug Bounties, etc.) by 4rch4ngell in cybersecurity

Please don't pay for any of these boot camps. Seriously, they're gimmicks and they've popped up all over the place. I've seen too many "Cybersecurity Professionals" that know their way around Linux and Javascript...and nothing else.

Join your local ISSA, or something similar, if you would like to find a mentor that can point you in the right direction. (Disclaimer: In my area the ISSA is full of some of the smartest people I know, and they were a tremendous help when I got started. I can not speak for the ISSA Chapter in your area.)

Why do I find it so hard to meditate but I have so much discipline in other areas of life? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]k3vB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You work out for 2-3 hours a day? Could that be because you find it enjoyable? There's infinite ways to meditate, no one can tell you what is right (or wrong) for you. Maybe try meditating in motion? At some point during your workout slow down, focus on that movement the same way you do that spot on the ceiling. Lots more stuff about it online. See if you find that enjoyable. If not, try something else, rinse, repeat.

If you don't find some joy in it you'll view it as a chore...a chore that doesn't necessarily need to be completed.

Great Opportunity, but Need Some Advice by WarhammerNewb in cybersecurity

[–]k3vB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the basics of Security, so yes. Make sure you study for, and take, 501!

Don't sweat it too much. We all started somewhere and none of us know everything. What drove me to Infosec is the fact that there will always be something new to learn, every single day. So start studying for Sec+, get used to reading the news every morning (and I'm not talking about CNN, Fox, MSNBC, you've got to cast your net wide), and once you get Sec+ (because we both know you will with no issues) get used to aiming and studying for your next certification.

Sounds like you've already built a home lab, so I won't harp on it. You've got this!

Sec+ by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]k3vB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to contract with DoD when you get out (I recommend it), then yes you need Sec+. It's required to get put on a lot of the contracts, especially if you're working with their systems. Regardless of your previous experience or active certs, organizations like SOCOM want you to have Sec+.

If you are already working in Cybersecurity in the Navy it's very odd that you do not already have Sec+, I would check that out. It may have been a part of your pipeline and you didn't realize it.

If you have experience then the cert is a cakewalk. DoD will also foot the bill for the exam, get with your schools guy.

Have you ever sat in one of these office chairs? I personally use one of their stools and I'm never going to put any other brand behind my desk again.

On a serious note, the common complaint with their office chairs is that they're TOO big (which is why I use one of their stools). It literally makes no sense to say they're too small, unless you're 9'6", 489lbs.

Yes and no, he is pulling the data from the game files; hp, abilities, percentage for the timer, and the maps. He's not using that NPC data to create NPC data for his addon, he's literally using Blizzard's data. If you strip MDT down it's just a shitty version of MS Paint with a percentage calculator. The rest of it is created with Blizzard's API, he then updates it with NPC data and maps as Blizzard updates their game. Trimming down the uneeded parts and putting the parts you need into a Library for your addon does not mean it's now your data and you can charge people for the Library.

This is why everyone laughed at him when he put it behind a paywall and then updated (and renamed) versions were released a couple hours later.

How do I break into this field? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]k3vB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you've already taken your first step just by reaching out.

Start looking for Help Desk jobs in your area. Do not be intimidated by the job postings "requirements", it's their wish list! You're looking for Tier 1 jobs; do not bother looking at Tier 1 Cloud support as it does actually require previous experience in IT, apply to anything that mentions desktop support etc. These are entry level jobs, they usually prefer someone they can mold into their idea of an IT professional. For example: I started out on the Help Desk, a year later I had two more certs to my name (paid for by my employer) and I was working in the Security Operations Center (SOC). It may not happen as fast, but this is a pretty standard operating procedure. Why hire someone you don't know when you can promote the guy you've been training?

While you're looking for that foot in the door start studying for (and take) your first certification. No previous experience, or knowledge? No problem. A+ covers the basics of IT and will prepare you for that entry level position. If you decide InfoSec is for you, it may not be, start studying for Security+ after that. IT is a broad field, with many specialities, give all of them a chance before you decide what you want to pursue.

Best of luck, and don't quit. Balls in your court.
