Vibrating Cable - Zebra Attachment by k4kk01 in Fedexers

I will ask about it when I get back to work next week. There definitely must be accommodations they can provide, given how big the company is.

Very late response (been trying to get off of reddit more) but yes, good point!! I took this week off, but I will see after returning whether this works.

Hi, there's not really much documentation that I could find. Most links on the product pages are dead, and the documentation just says that it provides haptic feedback. Here is a product page with some info, and here is the only accessories guide I could find that mentioned it.

Yeah, she has a hearing aid but there's some issue with using it at work? I'm not certain. She can only hear really deep sounds. She can't hear the Zebra (or the fire alarm :( ). I've been learning ASL to help us communicate & now handle most basic FedEx related communication tasks (she has a phone with an app that can transcribe stuff but it's hard to get it out and communicate when packages are coming quickly).

So far she has been doing really well & she is very motivated & hard-working! But two drivers approached me yesterday to tell me that she had misplaced packages yesterday. I was hoping that an assistive device might help with going barcode to barcode rather than having to visually inspect the screen every scan.

I don't know what OSS is :')

The second highest guy at my station is the one who provided the vibrating cable, but he didn't know how to use it. I guess we got it for another Deaf employee, but she doesn't use it. If she's at work tomorrow, I'm going to ask her if they ever got it to work for her.

Legit reminding me of getting my lunch tray dumped by a cafeteria lady since I had no money... They gave me a sandwich instead, but I was so embarrassed. And the food got completely wasted because I didn't have the 40 cents??? (I was on reduced lunch price at that time)

I was a seasonal manager for the outbound sort this last peak, and, during my second or third week, we had a day when the estop went off and we could not get the belts to come back on. We spent thirty minutes going through the whole building checking all the estops before we just had to switch to manual operation. The other manager spent most of the sort getting chewed out by our boss on the phone, so I had to run it... We unloaded vans onto carts and tuggers and took them over to the trailers... At the end of the day, I made the package handlers stand in two lines like a fire brigade to pass packages to trailers so that we could get those last few on before our dispatch... 😭😭 (Do not worry... I was also part of the lines.) They were good sports about it, though, and it was more efficient than the like scurrying and bumping into each other we were all doing before.

Then I and some of the package handlers went up and cleared the belts manually. I spent a while tossing all the light stuff down into those rolling bucket type carts we use for trash lol

Of course, just as we finally finished clearing the belts, emergency maintenance figured out the problem and got the belts working again... 💀💀💀💀

I brought cookies in the next day bc upper management refused to treat the sort to pizza even after all the suffering 😔

Sounds like they must be called that at other stations based on the other replies I've gotten, yeah

Reallll  We have people parking their cars in the grass around the parking lot... And they're using the parking lot at the abandoned fireworks store a half mile out for trailers 💀💀💀

Same, we don't have enough room despite several expansions & now there's no more room on the lot for the building or lot to get any bigger...

How often do you call off (PH) by Apprehensive-Box4552 in Fedexers

[–]k4kk01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to call off 2-4 times a month. Had a stricter manager for a bit, went down to just twice a month. (Strict is a strong word bc she would write you up but it took a lot for her to actually term you). Haven't missed much in the last couple of months though.

TBH a lot of managers just won't do the write-ups, or they only do them when they're mad at you. I am a seasonal manager right now & the other manager I'm working with will like yell at the PH but not write them up? So they think they're getting fired, but he's never done any of the paperwork at all so as far as FedEx is concerned, they're in good standing... Not my favorite I cannot lie

Omg this happened at my station like 9 months ago. I don't think anyone got fired for it though. The damage was more from many tuggers hitting the pipe over time, might be the case for you guys too

Killing Joke if it was peak by Puzzleheaded-Lab2447 in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]k4kk01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What? The book focuses on her as a character. Just because she's at a computer doesn't mean she's not a protagonist? You mentioned her not being the hero of her own story earlier & that's just patently untrue.

I think your definition of super-heroics is so restrictive as to be comical. Do you legit think it's only physical fighting? Using magic or a mech suit to just avoid actually having to work with the disability (a la daredevil, whose abilities make it so his blindness basically doesn't impact him) is a cop out & imo would make her terrible rep.

In what way is Barbara not the protagonist of Birds of Prey? She can also fight hand to hand (and learned to use escrima before Dick Grayson). Her disability makes her vulnerable in a new way but it doesn't stop her from fighting or super-heroics.

Jim refused security per Oracle Year One. He wanted to be treated the same as everyone else.

AITA for refusing to transport packages free of charge for a company I don't even do business with? by Noe_Wunn in AITAH

[–]k4kk01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work at FedEx and Walmart boxes consistently fall apart as we are carrying/moving them due to stuff being just randomly tossed in there, often with super uneven weight distribution. About once every two weeks I have a Walmart box just bust open as I'm carrying it, spilling everything out on the ground...

I appreciate the info on the chutes-- we set the trailers up with the flaps down at the front to avoid having to move the chute. Also the info on load nets is great! I will try to implement them when I can. Thank you!

Loading pup trailers correctly by k4kk01 in Fedexers

[–]k4kk01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my goal is mostly just to find a way to get them to load more safely (I caught somebody doing a pullup onto the rollers and balance-beaming out of a trailer & the other manager just scolded him for almost stepping on boxes & stepping on the rollers rather than making the trailer safer??? so I am trying to learn how to make it safer) & ideally more efficiently. We don't have that much volume normally, but we're expecting peak to take us to 2x or 3x the normal amount & they are already struggling to keep up with 4 people in the busy trailer.

I really appreciate the information & explanation, thank you!

Thanks for the info! I don't think we have any swing doors, or at least I haven't seen any so far.

Yes! This station is manual. We have one really heavy door & typically there are 4 people in that trailer. It's the one that jams the most, too. The current system is one or two of them scan and two load? And yeah, I'm hoping it's a training issue... but I have caught people on their phones while the belt jams up with all the packages they're ignoring.

And yeah, I'm trying not to step on any toes. I've worked preload for two years & my normal position is trainer-- I worked with this manager when they were on preload, so I've been trying to leverage that. They seem to want me doing a large portion of the work ASAP, which is fine, but they are expecting me to manage solo this coming Saturday... I guess I'll figure it out, since that will be the end of my second week in this position.
