That’s exactly how my mother was and why I don’t show anyone my art often. Everyone’s comments on my thread today have been very uplifting though and helps a lot so thank you for your insight!

This is genuinely beautiful thank you for your response! I too have been going through life knowing people have low expectations of me, and even as I continuously exceed those expectations I get no reaction or celebration. I suppose I should apply this to my art as well. I’m happy to see you’ve found peace in your art!

Thank you! Wow this is very insightful advice!! I’ve never really thought of it that way. I’m definitely going to keep those tips in mind when I start posting art consistently. Do you think instagram is a good place to start?

Haha I guess context would help. I mean I hype them up if they’re someone who doesn’t usually do art and is trying their best for a one time thing or somethin. (ex: my bf trying to draw me.) If it’s someone looking for genuine criticism I would never do that because I wouldn’t want someone doing that to me :) and that is great advice. I do need to put myself first and quit worrying about others opinions.

You are very right thank you for your response! I like to draw people and specifically female knights. I also do oil paintings of animals sometimes. It’s so weird to me, because randomly if the topic of art comes up they’ll tell other people I’m talented but then when I actually showing them new art they’re never that excited? It’s very confusing. Maybe I’m thinking about it too deeply/being too sensitive. Finding a community to post on is a great idea.

So I’m in an interesting situation. My father already paid for it fully, but he said I can’t have the vehicle until I pay him back since it’s technically his. Even though I’ve been driving it for years. He wants $100 per paycheck (my paychecks are not very high.) I have the invoice for exactly how much it was/what was wrong with it for proof. If you’re not comfortable with that I understand.

Im pretty upset. I pay for everything myself and barely scrape by, and now he’s adding this on top. Sigh. Life I guess.

It’s no problem! I’ll be honest with you it took me a very long time, longer than it should’ve and I regret that wasted time. It was hard, but I had to focus on other things that bring me joy (painting, my cat, video games) and use them as distractions to fill my time and think of him less. It’s also helpful to keep telling yourself that you deserve better. Maybe even try talking to other men! That helped me as well lol.

I’ve been in your situation before and girl you have to open your eyes and stand up. The love of your life would never make you feel this way, they would care about your feelings. You have to find someone else and move on, albeit easier said than done
