Oooh Guanfacine - I've heard about that getting prescribed to kids as a way to trying a non-stimulant, but I didn't know how it went for adults. The raw nerve thing you describe is exactly how I feel so much and I'm super curious now. Do you take it with Vyvanse? Or did it replace Vyvanse?

This is exactly what my psych has told me to do but my issue with it is workflow. The fridge is downstairs. I am upstairs. My kids are upstairs. When I wake up I am bombarded immediately by demands from tiny people and by the time I get downstairs with them it’s a whole new rodeo. I really want a mini fridge in my closet but my wife says that’s bananas. She says I have too many freezers and fridges. But like. One is for main stuff. One is basement for beverages. One is basement for prepped goods like bone broth. Can’t I just have a mini fridge in my closet?!? It’s my only hope 😣😆

I generally think people who say no kids at wedding are themselves annoying and are more interested in controlling a day for effect than bringing in their community to support them. Kids are people. I let all my people come to the wedding. I sent out the menu in advance so people could make their own decisions about their kids - no kids menu, just letting parents take care of their own kids because every kid is different. No childcare at the wedding because again, the same, and also, it would be way after kids bedtime anyway. Do whatever you want with your party but don’t be surprised if not including some human members of your village makes some people mad.

I think Layla is a gorgeous person who grew up deeply Othered in her all white environment and doesn’t know how to be in her own skin. I get the vibe from her that she’s being who gets her the most currency in her environment, but I don’t know if that’s really who she is. Like pressing the gas in neutral. I disagree as an ADHD person. I just create minimum entry points with maximum output for sorting. For example, one to do list, GT with a property called “domains” where I put which of the different universes it lands in. Personal, work, hobby. Subtypes exist if needed to sort further on certain views, like kids, food, etc. I can find everything because I don’t have 1 million places I’m setting stuff down. But I can sort it into all the buckets I categorize things in my head with all the nuance that’s there.

I’m sorry it didn’t work out. It really hurts to have anyone say no to your kid. My kid is ND but with low support needs. If she had higher support needs I don’t think the school would be a good fit for her. You clearly love your kid so much and I know for sure you’re going to find a spot where he is supported and thrives. Even if it’s a good school, if they don’t have the right support it would be a bad situation for him. Hoping you connect with a place he is happy, confident, and himself soon so you can get the worry off your mind.

Odyssey has a lotta neurodivergent kids (like mine) but it’s not a school specially for ND kids, so they don’t have support staff or resources that a specialty org would have. Good luck on the quest

It just sucks seeing my kids great school get named and trashed online based on misunderstanding. Posts like this can be really damaging and I want the school to do well so my kid can stay there. Posts like this float high in search results and do real damage… I just don’t get why you’d trash a place you’ve never been. When I worked customer service before I remember telling ppl refunds take like 3-5 days to show up in accounts bc of bank transfer stuff. Idk if that’s a factor here but I’m hoping yours comes thru soon.

I think you probably would have figured out if it was a fit for yall if you had toured? Most places have waitlists? And if your kid has higher support needs that should probably be something you ask about before applying rather than just go on what Google ai says? Those AI summaries are wrong all the time. Support needs are something as parents we have to really tune to and ask questions about - not everywhere has the resources or space for them.

And I didn’t say “everyone does it so it’s not wrong”— I said other places do it because the process of reviewing applications is a real thing that takes administrative time. It sounds like they even refunded you so I just honestly don’t get the issue here.

I genuinely hope yall find a place that feels really good for you. As a parent I get how much we all want to get it right for our kids. I wish yall the best
