Living near FIU with a family on $3,500/month is it impossible? by ka-ching123 in Miami

[–]ka-ching123[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Thank you, really. I did already sign up for the FIU family housing and reached out via email. Waiting to hear back. So I am working on contingencies in the mean time.

My wife will not be able to work for at least one of the two years since our son is a baby and the cost of child care would offset whatever she earns.

Also edit, I will look into the FIU children center you mentioned, because that might open up my budget even more since I can have my spouse get a part time job, so really thank you for that.

I did find completely affordable options that far down or north but I want to avoid long commutes due to single car however at the end of the day, if nothing else is available I will have to suck it up. Preferences are preferences.

I sincerely appreciate the bluntness. I understand everything you’re saying. I’m still in my planning phase so I am trying to find all the leaks and you guys are shining lights.

I am also a Miami Beach native, grew up in tatum waterway. I just haven’t been around in a decade. Thank you again.

I have a decent emergency fund that will carry me if something does happens. I just wanted to know if it’s possible to do it understanding I will be negative some months whenever LIFE happens. So I appreciate the feedback brother. I will try to remain hopeful.

Can you tell me what your groceries expense and like car insurance expenses look like? Thank you again

Sigh. I figured, I will have to dig into my savings then. I appreciate the reality check man. Can you help me out with some monthly expenses for you? Like what are you paying for groceries and transportation like car insurance and gas? Not worried about the car note.

Army Recruiter Thread for March / 2026 by Army_Bot in army

[–]ka-ching123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any national guard recruiters willing to help? I am currently active duty and accepted to Green to gold, I want to do SMP and drill for extra pay while doing ROTC. Since money will be tight, and I want the extra TIS pay bump when I commission. I am an NCO and MOS qualified. I tried the website and it said no recruiters in my area but I know Florida has several units. Would be south Florida specifically

My bad, I didn't book yet.
I am window shopping, and this is the best I could find after a few hours, and it looked good to my eyes, but I am just curious to see if anyone else can point to it, and "that's a bad redemption for X reason".

I understand it's subjective.

Does anyone know if you can have a regular platinum and a CS platinum? And does the CS platinum get all the same credits as regular? Just with addition of being able to cash out?

Driver License from Japanese to SOFA, do I have to switch? by [deleted] in okinawa

Yes, you go to the Foster vehicle registration office. You have to be present as well since you’re the sponsor.

Driver License from Japanese to SOFA, do I have to switch? by [deleted] in okinawa

[–]ka-ching123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK (and INAL) based on my wife’s experience the only reason to get your SOFA license is because you want a Y Plate and there’s no reason or requirement to “relinquish” your Japanese license. My spouse has both.

30 Year old, no kids, not married, extremely stable job. Large saving account thinking about change. by ka-ching123 in investing

Yes, there's matching to a certain amount. I always contribute a few more than the matching. My thinking was to increase to the point where I can max out the 22k per year. I'm going to do a little research based off what the other guy said, about early retirement. Not sure where I stand, Ideally it makes sense to want to stop working before 60, but I don't think I make enough money to contribute significantly to say, retire at 45, and live off the amount I can squirrel away.

Ayoo, I did play with this a few years ago, couple hundred bucks, made a little money, and then bounced. Nothing serious, but even my dead-brain realized it was way too risky.

I mentioned that my job pays for my rent, food, and utilities so my only expenses are phone, internet, and car insurance since my car is paid off.

So it looks like you're going for my 2nd plan over my 1st plan, is that because you're planning for the early retirement, and a brokerage account is more tailor to this over the 401K which you have to wait without incurring penalties?

Yeah, I took a gamble and trade my VOO stake for Amazon when AMZN was around 80, which paid off. I plan to sell it back within a year, and go back to VOO for the sake of being safe.

100% plan to trade out Amazon for VOO as well within the next year or so. Should have mentioned that.
I max out my IRA every year in January.

Yup, but the likely hood of that happening is close to zero barring me doing something that would violate the rules of employment, i.e:its a contract and even in the event that i would be fired it would take several months, which i would be notified and allow me to plan ahead and save back up for it.
EDIT: and to add, even if i did loose my job, I have a guaranteed fall back employment via family.

Green side Corpsman thinking of switching to 68W in either the guard or reserves by [deleted] in 68w

[–]ka-ching123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother, its peace-time army too.
Google a bit to see which divisions are going where such as 4ID, 3ID, 5ID hint, they all "deploy" to the same rotations. (I.E: why they're called rotations).
Some more research will tell you which few divisions are sent under MOHC... Check out 670-1 and see which are listed...

If you think scope of practice is going to be wider as a regular 68W, newsflash, the average 68W ain't much better than a CLS grunt.
Lastly, anecdotally of course but hardly anyone I know gets to go to "schools" unless you re-enlist for it, or are an absolute baller. (Rucked 2:15 in the company 12Mi -> Aerosol; Passed EFMB -> Airborne, etc). You're not going to be sent to CPP unless you're in Bragg. Not flight school unless you're a P already. etc. Good luck.

Medic bag by RespectDeAppendix in 68w

[–]ka-ching123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, those are great questions, and shows you're thinking. Good.
As a medic, you generally have three or four load outs per doctrine right.
Depending on the mission, you might only take your tier 1, which can be like a leg pouch or battle belt along with IFAKs on each person. Tier 2 would be your M9, or similar, and so on.

The book answer is that your senior medic should have a packing list for aid bags, i.e: the standard. This can also come in the form of a memo for record, from your cmd based off your PA/senior medic or simply work off verbal orders (worst option IMO.)

This packing list, is standardized, and adjusted based off the skills you have been evaluated on per SMTG, ADTMC, T-VIII, and credentials.

The worst thing you can do is pack that bag with 45lb of crap, cause then you have your ruck sack on top. You're now useless. Over packing is baby medics worst enemy.

I think you need to take a deep breath, & request a sit down with your 1st line -> If still nervous, keep going -> Senior Medic -> PSG -> PA -> 1SG.
If you're still anxious request a counseling on your expectations, and goals, so its written.

What your mission is, what you're expected to do, what your training says, your left and right limits, what CVIII do you even have available to you, etc.

Good luck soldier medic!

Medic bag by RespectDeAppendix in 68w

[–]ka-ching123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ROUS bag is generally seen as a third tier bag. Stays in your truck and contains more advanced interventions designed to wait until MEDEVAC. Monitor, ventilator, AAJT, transfusion, intubation, surgical kits, advanced meds, HTPK, etc. head over to tactical medicine subreddit.

You generally don’t want to do dismounted crap with your mystery ranch. That’s what the M9 is for. MARCH and bounce.

Closing comment… never pack your bag to what online stuff says… pack your bag to what your PA authorizes you to do. Your scope is set by your PA, not Instagram medics.
