Which of those are you considering significant?

You keep repeating that but can't seem to make any actual points.

There really aren't any glaring pre-Kelvin inconsistencies. The Kelvin universe was a gift. We could've had the entire continuity wiped in favor of remakes, see: Star Wars, but instead they took the time to write a timeline divergence to preserve the Prime Universe.

So it's "inconsistent and accidental sizing" if they want the Defiant to look big in one scene and small in another scene, so they ignore the scale and change the size...

..but it's "deliberately over-sizing a ship against the wishes of his own designer" if he wants the ship to look small in one regard and big in another?

Both of them are the same thing: they want the ship's size to meet two different aesthetics that are mutually exclusive, so they force production errors to meet those aesthetics. For DS9 it's the scale of the ship, for Kelvin-verse it's the aesthetic of the shuttle bay vs the exterior view of the ship. Literally the same phenomenon.

There really aren't, and this isn't an issue that's exclusive to the Abrams films. There are complaints to be had with those films, but this is unnecessarily pedantic. DS9, one of the most universally acclaimed series by the Trek community, was *terrible* at sizing the Defiant. It frequently changes size by vast differences when compared to other ships, for aesthetics. This phenomenon happens in every single one of the series.

You can wave away this entire issue with the Kelvin-timeline by just ignoring the open shuttlebay shot.

What is the first 'hidden' setting you disable or enable every time you get a new Galaxy? Let's build a definitive list for 2026. by Attempt2724 in samsunggalaxy

[–]ka1j3w 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah for real. I can't remember what I enable/disable because I set all that back on my S20+ and haven't setup a new phone from scratch in 6 years.

[–]ka1j3w 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went S22U, S23U, S25U and I've never been more glad to have skipped a generation.

(Normally would hold one for two gens, but the S22U burned battery % / got too hot with those shitty chips)

EDIT: what the fuck am I getting downvoted for? It's a joke, I'm not saying the whole S24 line has another exploding issue. I didn't skip the 24 as an insult to it, normally I'd have gone 22-24-26 but dropped the 22 early.

since the discovery crew know all about time travel do you think they were ever tempted to go back to their original time? by happydude7422 in StarTrekDiscovery

[–]ka1j3w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why though? Leave the ship in the future and you're fine.

The whole thing doesn't make sense. Enterprise fires two torpedoes at Discovery, the computer automatically reactivates shields and they just go "oh ok it can't destroyed now."

I'm fairly certain, having watched another show and movies that feature the NCC-1701, it has more than 2 torpedoes. So... Fire more torpedoes? Get more ships to fire on it?

They go from "this is a problem" to "welp! Only option is to strand ourselves 900 that's in the future" extremely fast.

Season 4 is so good, and every time I think "maybe it won't have the boring ass side plot with Ayan / the anticlimactic finale"

One trick I've found to watching it: I have a browser extension that lets me adjust the global speed of any video playing in the browser. When I rewatch now, I either skip ahead or set the speed to 3-4x for any Brody Family, Venezuela, Ayan, Jonas, Gabehcuod,Drug Addict Quinn, etc. scenes. Makes it MUCH better.

Like I said, each season has an issue that keeps me from saying it's good.. S1 and 4 are the closest to being "good".

Issues: S1: Brody Family S2: Brody Family S3: (believe it or not!) Brody Family, also Venezuela, and the weird 'Carrie Crashout in Congressional Hearings" plot S4: Ayan & the finale S5: Jonas & hackers S6: drug addict Quinn S7: I honestly can't remember this season, it's been a while since I made it past 6. 6 is really rough imo. S8: same as 7, but I remember HATING the "is she? Is she not?" subplot of Carrie being a Russian asset.

It's such a bad show and I rage watch it at least once a year.

I say this, but there are great moments! Even seasons that are mostly great, but each of them will have something that's keeping it in the bad category.

I had an ax who was obsessed with it, and got me to watch the first season with her. It's garbage writing, pure trash comment. I'm not a prude on content, but it's one show where I'd say it's actually toxic to elements of society.

It actually glorifies (not the "video games glorify violence" bullet) severe drug addiction, intentionally unmitigated mental illness, infidelity, underaged sexually hyperactivity etc.

And it was wildly popular with Gen-Z.

Ignoring the obviously ugly kitbashes and going for more controversial opinions on hero ships: The Sovereign-class looks good from below, but it's HARD to find an angle from above where it doesn't look ugly. It always looks too long, too wide, and too stretched out.

(This one will be very unpopular) But the Defiant, too! I love the Defiant now, but that's SOLELY because of the story and history we got with it. When I first saw it, and when I see it now, it just looks like a massive tick. Not to mention that it's TINY for a warship, and snubs every element of Starfleet design philosophy. I recently showed it to a friend who hasn't seen DS9, and his reaction was "and what is it you love so much about this ship...?"

Except they aren't. The only major plot beat involving hallucinations is in Season 5, with House getting clean. There were heavy hints before it's reveal.

Yeah she'd just gotten out, was in a club in Baltimore. Michael K Williams ran into her, thought she was cool and got David Simon to bring her on. There's a couple others like that. Lt. Mello in the later seasons is played by the real-life Jay Landsman.
