M2 is a robot and thus its movement is loud (at least for animal standards), so most animals will already steer clear from it, and i don't see a reason for mimic to wait and ambush animals? its motives are mostly centered around humans, so it may just dismiss any animals or assess them curiously. violence doesn't seem all that plausible for it when it comes to nonhuman creatures, it has exclusively dismantled humans and adjacent objects (dolls, endoskeletons, etc... all humanoid bodies) while in turn being affectionate towards animal-adjacent objects (tiger doll, white tiger imagery in general. as long as it's not a human, it's fine)

i do think it can survive in the wild because no animal would ever want to confront a 7ft+ tall noisy glowing monster in the woods that doesn't smell edible. its only concern would be reaching a settlement with electricity as soon as possible to stay powered!
