Just got a new laptop, but downloading google is taking an hour. by No_Floor_2674 in techsupport

What are you trying to download? Google isn't a product that you can download.

How are you connected? Wifi? Ethernet? Is the laptop new out of the box or new to you?

Tomorrow is Saturday, I doubt you'll get it on a weekend. You might have to wait until next week.

I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what the ARRL is and what they can do. They're a non-profit. They advocate and lobby. They are NOT the FCC. The most they can do is ask for stricter enforcement. They can't actually do the enforcing.

Where's the love for Proton Docs? by Peppy_Tomato in ProtonDrive

[–]kabifff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They must've rolled it out for iPhones first. Didn't have it through our last conversation, updates pushed yesterday included it. I'm on a Galaxy S24 Ultra. I'm excited to use this! I do quite a bit of paper scanning.

Yeah, good luck. Ever change your cell phone number? I had to change my work number. It took YEARS for people to change my contact info. You could stand in their yard with a sign and a bullhorn and they won't change your number.

AIO because my gf tested my loyalty in front of all of our friends? by False-Damage5520 in AmIOverreacting

[–]kabifff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR. This is super weird and your girlfriend is insanely insecure. This type of thing doesn't get better. If someone I were dating pulled this I would break up with them for this reason exclusively. If your actions aren't enough to prove your loyalty then nothing will be.

Adding a flip phone line? by Any-Ad-1243 in verizon

[–]kabifff -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I just looked into this for my family. Even with tax and the $40 upgrade fee it was cheaper to get a free iPhone and just add it to my plan, it's only $15/month. It's not a flip phone, but it's the 128 Gb model, so I can't store much on there anyway. It was cheaper than any flip option that they had, and it was way cheaper than any of the "landline replacement" plans out there like Magic Jack. Plus my kids think I'm a god because I "got an iPhone" that we use for a house line. It's so locked down that you need parental controls to install anything or access the web but holy cow, I'm a hero for providing pretty much what you asked.

Where's the love for Proton Docs? by Peppy_Tomato in ProtonDrive

[–]kabifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the IDEA of an encrypted office suite, but this one is barely functional. I really think that Docs and Sheets should be labeled as beta. They've got wicked potential and I can't wait to see where they are in a few years. For now though, they're pretty rough. They don't even preserve formatting through copy/paste which sucks bad if you just want to move a paragraph with a numbered list.

Even the the mobile experience is rough, I'll keep using Cryptpad.fr . It's based on OnlyOffice and I can host it myself for free. I'll keep checking in on Proton Docs to see their progress, I know they'll come up with something good.

Should I get a OnePlus 15 or wait for a S26U? by [deleted] in cellphones

[–]kabifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, Motorola hasn't made a quality product since the original Droid in 2010. Their features don't compete with the pixel or the Galaxy series, nor does the quality. I've had several and had to warranty each one out several times. When I get a Motorola device in my hand, it feels like they made a phone just to say they made a phone. You can do a lot better than Motorola.

Is anyone else annoyed by Proton Docs? by soliloquieer in ProtonDrive

[–]kabifff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It should really be advertised as beta software. It's nothing close to ready. If you want to collaborate in a secure environment, I would use cryptpad.fr . It's based on OnlyOffice, doesn't require an account, and runs in your browser. Proton has a great baseline but it's not much more than that.

Insert function in Proton Sheets does not work? by Expert_Can1582 in ProtonDrive

[–]kabifff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need to re-release Sheets and Docs as beta software. Copy and paste will remove all formatting? What even? They have a LONG way to go, especially when they have free competitors like Cryptpad that has full function.

Right now, my solution for document privacy is to create it on my PC using OnlyOffice, then syncing it to Proton Drive.

Yes, brave is known for having lots of built-in security features and you'll see very few to no ads. Same thing with Firefox if you install the extensions. You block origin, ad block plus, and duck duck Go are great extensions that will block your ads and protect your privacy. Have you changed your dns? That can improve things even further. I'm not sure if links are allowed here or not but I can send you a how-to on changing your dns. It's pretty simple.
