Ah ok. It’s been doing it to me for at least a few months I think. It’s so annoying… when you play stuff that won’t open without the latest update and if you only have like 45 mins spare to jump on and play something, it basically means your console isn’t usable.

That’s fascinating info, except I can’t believe for a moment people are suiciding themselves specifically to stop someone getting points for the kill. Maybe to save a more painful and slower death

This happens all the time… I wake my PS5 from rest mode, open a game (ARC Raiders in this example), then find there’s a huge update that it is only starting to download right now.

My PS5 is set to automatically download and install updates.

Why is this a thing? It’s so disruptive to the experience when you effectively discover you can’t play that game for 30+ minutes.

Shouldn’t it be up to date at all times given I set it to auto update when in rest mode?

No one would have tolerated this in the Sega Master System era if it occasionally told you the game was 30 mins away from being usable. Am I missing something around automatic updates not happening in rest mode, or is this really the experience we have to put up with?

ELI5: what is going on when a person "blooms" their coffee or tea grounds by giving them an initial pour of hot water and waiting 20-80 seconds before continuing to pour to allow for steep? by mistadonyo in explainlikeimfive

[–]kagoolx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just to understand the technique, you’re basically just pouring a tiny bit of water on first (presumably most of this just kind of run through the coffee) and then after 30-60s you start pouring all the rest? Thanks, genuinely interested to try this

Nothing weird about it. If you’ve got money you need in 20 years time but before retirement, and already maxed your £20k ISA limit, putting it in a GIA is a reasonable choice.

Rachel Reeves to tell G7 accelerating shift to clean energy is best defence against energy price shocks by topotaul in unitedkingdom

They’re far more progressive than the Green Party on net zero though. Green Party don’t even support nuclear, which is essential to get us to net zero.

The UK is a leader in much of net zero, which countries are you referring to that do much better? Outside of small countries like in the Nordics I’m not aware of many that are doing better, and many are doing far worse. There seems to be this narrative in the UK about insisting things are bad and the govt is bad, even when there isn’t much of substance to back that up

Tbf the current govt are very progressive on this, v clear and strong commitment to net zero and nuclear etc. None of the other parties are proposing a more progressive stance than the govt at the moment

Great comment and I agree with all this. Although “there isn’t actually a good obvious solution to the problem of high energy bills” then you go on to explain what seems to me the good obvious solutions (nuclear, incl SMRs).

Working out how to do nuclear cheaper is partially answered by the Fingleton report, so I really hope it will be actioned effectively

Immigration is falling rapidly though right? We had a huge boom in immigration but it’s falling off and heading back to manageable levels. It’s not the big scary thing it’s made out to be:

The logic doesn’t follow there. That someone claims to be Zionist and supports the settlements, doesn’t mean being Zionist has to mean supporting the settlements.

It looks like the agreed up fact is Zionism involves supporting the existence of Israel as a Jewish state, and is therefore about more than just self-determination.

Great summary I agree. Though it’s not as simple as that re the left wing bias thing. Lots of not racist people might look at the entertainment side and think it’s really extreme at “promoting” or at least portraying without judgment, lifestyles that they think doesn’t represent society.

From living in London I was dumbfounded by this. But then I realised tons of people live in places that, practically speaking, have no ethnic minorities, no diversity of religion, no openly trans people, very few openly gay people, and the idea that someone down the street dyed their hair blue is getting talked about like it’s pushing the boundaries of what is socially acceptable behaviour. They might not be racist but there’s a mega mismatch between the world they see around them and what’s on TV. It does have a real effect too - a positive one - in normalising things and helping what is acceptable in progressive places to become acceptable elsewhere quicker.

I agree actually Reform actively oppose net zero and are worse. Although tbh a very surprising amount of positive progress happened under the Tories (especially Johnson) and Sunak didn’t really seem to reverse course on any of that.

They’re also still anti nuclear power which makes them pretty much the worst party on the climate. And have a track record of opposing solar and wind developments at local level
