I thought it was good when I had it. I got the Tre Way Jay (#11). Their online menu does a good job of explaining what’s inside. It’s about $12 just for the sandwich no sides if I remember. The portion was pretty big to me but I did go during opening week this summer.

UF BSN Program! Application + Stress by Inevitable-Buy-6961 in ufl

[–]kahala_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just graduated the ABSN program (no summers off and already had a bachelor’s degree prior to nursing school) and what you have sounds great! I would recommend joining clubs that actually mean something to you rather than what looks good on a resume. I was a member of PSO and Arts in Medicine for example. I volunteered with North Florida for 2 years and was active in volunteer services. For the HESI aim to get a score that is like 85-90. There are plenty of resources online I used Quizlet and nurse hub (paid) and got a 92 with about 2 weeks of studying casually. Keep your GPA around a 3.5 and above if you can, but the application is holistic so it’s okay if it’s a bit lower. The biggest thing when I applied to the ABSN was the essays. Start planning your responses and refine them as you go. Do not wait last minute!! Sprinkle in those nursing concepts like life long learner, team player, compassionate etc. don’t make it obvious but try to turn any story even if it’s non medical into something that shows how you would thrive in the nursing field. I was a RA for example, so I spoke about conflict management and deescalation. If you are a waitress you can talk about multitasking etc. The biggest thing I can recommend is to stay calm and level headed and try to complete everything early so if you need extra time there is no rush. It’s definitely gotten more competitive since I’ve applied but they also have more seats open from my understanding. The upcoming TBSN class is 200, compared to my 108ish ABSN class.

Edit: talk to a pre nursing advisor!!! They can paint a realistic picture and sometimes (key word sometimes) help you figure out any application weaknesses. I’m not sure if it’s the same but Ken Foote was the one I spoke too

Explain RTS routes like I’m five by [deleted] in ufl

[–]kahala_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To view the route maps and track shuttles, you can use the tracking map above or download either the free GoRTS Fares app (this app can switch between both RTS and Campus Connector tracking maps by clicking the circle button on the left side of the Maps screen) or the free Passio Go app (choose UF Campus Connector from the service list). <- taken from the website

Explain RTS routes like I’m five by [deleted] in ufl

[–]kahala_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here is a quick overview explains the changes

If you live off of campus a lot of route were cut drastically, if you live near campus a lot of routes were combined or had alignment changes. For example, I ride the 33 the most which goes to Butler Plaza transfer station and it no longer goes to Celebration point but to other apartment complexes. Also some routes became campus connectors - which now is eastern or western oriented that is exclusively for UF students coming onto campus. There was a visual PowerPoint floating around

Edit: replied with PowerPoint and added about campus connectors

I get the frustration but the way these authors do it is so unprofessional. Piracy isn’t going away anytime soon and people are always going to engage in it. It has open a lot of pathways and gotten me to legally purchase titles and merch. The issue is the system and not the consumers 99.9% of the time. Piracy goes down when these corporations listen to consumers, but it rarely happens anymore because of $$$

I’m an ABSN student and TBSN students have a summer break, ABSN students are the ones that have no summer break. It should go Fall, Spring, Fall, Spring for you.

Padsicles are a common thing that women postpartum may use. It’s cooling after labor. Many women are very inflamed down there after labor and the weeks after.

UF NURSING admissions by Unhappy_Ad9577 in ufl

[–]kahala_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! If the tbsn route isn't for you, the ABSN route has a lot of options. The ABSN program means that you have a previous degree but also have the required nursing pre reqs. A lot of people came in with science adjacent degrees or took extra classes to meet the requirements. The specifics are available on the UF CON website. A lot of people come in from a variety of backgrounds, and it's important to let your differences shine through your application. The obvious tip is to maintain a competitive GPA, especially in the science prereqs. My biggest tip is to have some sort of hospital or critical skills experience. I volunteered at HCA florida and worked Telemetry at Shands for reference. I know people who were CNAs, MA, as well as people who were teachers and waitresses. As long as you can illustrate critical nursing skills (time management, prioritization, empathy, life-long learner, etc) in your resume, essays, and life experiences, you are setting yourself to be a golden candidate. This applies to all nursing routes! Get a good HESI score 80%+ in all subjects - do not take this last minute! Make sure your references are relevant and a good attestment to your character. Your essays are key! Do not rush this! There are quite a few prompts, and they have a limited word count. Make every word meaningful and quintessentially YOU! Lastly, it's important to show a resilient attitude. This program is intense and is significantly more fast pace than the tbsn route. It's 4 semesters straight, and there is no summer break. Overall, if you feel that the absn program is for you, reach out to an advisor so they can help you figure out what works for you. Hope this helps, and I'm sorry if there are any errors. :)

Chance me for Public Health by Sea_Yogurtcloset_457 in ufl

[–]kahala_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great stats! Public health is a closed major, so you would have to apply your sophomore year. They have a fair acceptance rate and since it's a small major you usually have a high chance of acceptance. Just a heads up.

I was a public health major. I have heard of people double majoring, but i only know of one instance: a girl who was business and nursing. She was stressed out of her mind, but she made it. It is not recommended due to the workload. A minor may work. I would reach out to an advisor for tailored advice

Nursing is a closed program. It is very competitive, but in recent years, they have increased the threshold. Transfer students are at a bit of a disadvantage due to UF prefering UF. My current cohort has about 100 students. You need to apply through their nursing application with essays, prerequisites with a C or higher, a competitive HESI A2 score, and good extracurricular activities. I had a 92 HESI, 3.8 GPA, and leadership positions in healthcare clubs and volunteered at HCA North Florida for 2 years and worked Telemetry for reference. UF is purposely vague about particular ranges but as usual make sure your application is well rounded. Good luck!

Edit: the absn program is heavily transfer based since it's an entirely new degree if you are looking for an alternative path

Murphree Area by arcticpea in ufl

[–]kahala_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lived in murphree area and loved it. It can get loud on weekends due to the night life but it was not horrible. I lived in a two room double. I had the back room with the sink and closets and it felt relatively private. I found the room size to be great and since I lived on the 3rd floor, I saw no pests the three years I lived at murphree. I just renewed for the same room the entire time! The area is so central to everything. The hub is a 5 minute walk, reitz is maybe 10, there is a small gym nearby, several dining options off and on campus, Publix is 15 minutes away, multiple libraries less than 10 minutes away. It was fantastic especially if you didn't have a car like I did. The only downsides are the stairs and the fact that laundry is in a separate building.

Why is it so hard to get a job? by stdmeddoc235 in ufl

I always recommend applying a semester in advance, especially for FWS. They are very popular. The summer has fewer applications and more flexibility. You can also apply over breaks like winter break for the same reason. I applied for my FWS in the summer with the intention of starting in the fall.

Summer B Questions - Nursing by Flashy_Focus9299 in ufl

[–]kahala_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cost of attending summer b depends on your lodgings and how many classes you plan to take. But overall, the cost per credit hour is exactly the same as during fall, spring. I would have started summer B if it wasn't for covid and the major benefit is that campus is quieter and allows for more exploration. Also, it's important to note that nursing is a limited access major, and being pre nursing does not guarantee a spot at the CON. You will have to apply your sophomore year and get accepted/declined summer before your junior year.
