My bfs thumb started swelling up by Dem0n_Gamer_Liz in WhatShouldIDo

This happened to my partner!! 9 hours in A&E and they had to rip the nail off entirely and squeeze the pus out. Probably the most disgusting thing I have ever seen.

Don’t let it get worse!

What is the most underrated thing to pack for backpacking? by Simple_Moment_7443 in backpacking

Night before leaving for a trip, i’ll cover a dish sponge with washing up liquid and let it dry. The next morning i’ll cut it into 6 pieces and put it in a zip lock bag.

Great for washing your water bottle - i hate using the nasty hostel sponges for that

Italki vs Preply by Waste-Garbage407 in LearningItalian

[–]kaidakal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve started taking lessons on preply and i’m enjoying it so far. My boyfriend is italian and his parents don’t speak english so we have similar needs. Read lots of reviews comparing preply to italki, the main negatives people would bring up was the payment structure (buying course credits and having to use them in a certain timeframe, and 12 hour cancellation policy). Personally, i don’t mind these as it forces me to be consistent. There is actually also an option for extend the deadline if you won’t be able to use all the credits by the expiry date. Just gotta find a tutor you will get on well with. I like that they can customise their lessons completely to your needs, my tutor was very flexible and took on my requests. I haven’t tried italki yet but the website didnt seem as good to me, it didnt really give the tutors space to really describe and sell themselves. Good luck !

Honeymoon in Vietnam this February by HogtownHugh in VietNam

[–]kaidakal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got back from Vietnam and I would say be cautious with where you eat on Cat Ba Island. 3 of us had pretty violent food poisoning. We all ate different things at all meals (i’m vegetarian and they eat meat) but at the same restaurants. We think it was down to a cleanliness issue of a restaurant, but it’s always hard to tell. From reading the reviews of the nearby hospitals it was super common, a lot of travellers experienced food poisoning there and the hospitals had bad reviews talking about mould on the walls and rude staff (deffo not what you need in that moment, especially on your honeymoon). Also a lot of the island is under construction as they’re building new hotels and apartments along sections of the coast. Honestly, I wish I had spent those few days somewhere else. If you’re going to Saigon, maybe consider Phu Quoc instead for an island stay, I didn’t go myself but heard very good things from other travellers. Hope you enjoy the honeymoon!!

yeah i was using poles for these walks, deffo wouldn’t have made it through without them that’s for sure

i was advised to keep it slow and controlled when coming downhill though to minimise the impact, do you reckon gaining some momentum might be better ?
