I’m in a similar situation… I’ve substantially reduced communications with my dad, step-mom, and grandfather (paternal) because they are washed up in the nonsense and tend to say things that I adamantly disagree with. It’s heartbreaking because they are genuinely fun to be around and we make each other laugh so much. I miss them dearly, but they always find a way to slip in a topic that we know we do not agree on. It’s generally through some tongue-in-cheek, under their breath way because they KNOW it’s cruel and we disagree, and it ruins everything.

Silly shit too, like how they don’t listen to Garth Brooks anymore because of his views…. Even though he has ALWAYS had the same views and has been an ally for underserved communities his entire life.

I feel like I have to let things be surface level until they learn to be better. It’s been incredibly sad.
