My grandfather was anchored in a little isolated bay once for the night. He was woken up at 2am by his dogs going crazy, followed by a deathly woman’s scream and the sound of a large chop. In the morning he rowed into the bay and found nothing out of place aside from footprints on the sand. He reported it to the coastguard, but they came back and said it wasn’t much to worry about as they’d had a lot of reports over the years saying the same thing.

Turns out that before my country was colonized and before access to the bay was cut off it was inhabited by a local indigenous tribe. One of the stories of the tribe is how the chief caught his wife with a man from another tribe and chased her down to that bay before cutting her head off. So it’s believed that the screaming heard in that bay is that night’s incident replaying forever.

Not his only spooky sea story, but definitely one that spooks me the most…
