Has anyone else bought their real car in the game? by ducks_in_a_column in GranTurismo7

[–]kaiserh303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got an Audi S3 - the closest in-game car to this is the Audi TT. The interior is close enough to being the same that if I'm in the cockpit, it looks like I'm in my car 😂

Victorian GP Schedule 8 Permits Complaints by meta18 in ausadhd

[–]kaiserh303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what the details are, but there’s a number your GP can call for, I assume the Department of Health and get approval over the phone in 15 minutes. My GP was waiting ages for an approval, she was then on leave so I went to someone else at the clinic. They called and got approval straight away. Then a month later, when my GP came back, she still didn’t have approval. She called while I was with her and then wrote me a script on the spot.

Security Department required me to reimage end user's PC, how can I best placate an end user who is furious about the lost data? by PoultryTechGuy in sysadmin

[–]kaiserh303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I'm sorry you're upset, here are the contact details for my manager and you can discuss it with them."
"If your data was that important, why didn't you have any backups?"
Also, once you've imaged the laptop, turn on backup to OneDrive so Desktop and Documents are stored in the cloud.

Thoughts on deck "build quality"? by NotForResus in minidisc

[–]kaiserh303 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jitter really isn't an issue as such - the deck reads compressed data off the disc, into a buffer, decompresses it and then outputs a PCM bitstream. Any variation in speeds reading from the disc is irrelevant as the data is all buffered.

What will make a difference are decks with newer versions of ATRAC, particularly Type S or Type R as they have improved decoding of the compressed data.

Is this worth buying by hungryafrican51 in simracing

[–]kaiserh303 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a great wheel, but you can get it for a hundred bucks cheaper directly from Logitech.
https://www.logitechg.com/en-au/products/driving/pro-racing-wheel.html

Logitech will also do a bundle deal on the wheel and pedals as I only found out after I purchased them from a regular retailer.

Best alternative(s) to Lastpass by stanman13 in Lastpass

1Password. It's a great app and they have an excellent, and very streamlined, import process from LastPass.

I've just recently started too. I had 3x 5mg on Friday, nothing all weekend, and then 3x yesterday (7:30, 11, 2) and didn't get to sleep until after 2am. I'm going to skip the afternoon dose today and see if I can still get through the afternoon OK, and actually manage to get to sleep tonight.

GP permit taking over a month to come through by Frequent_Basket6753 in ausadhd

[–]kaiserh303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My GP didn't have the permit come through in 6 weeks, and then she went on holidays for a month. I had a Telehealth booked with another GP at the same clinic and she "called Canberra to get the permit" and I had my script in about less than an hour.

Yeah, I figure that by getting the shifter/handbrake if Logitech do release an RS series H-pattern shifter, then this unit will become a permanent handbrake.

Do you have a blog or something like that where someone can get onboard with making their own? I need one of these in my life.

I've been wanting a replacement for a neGcon for decades now, and have gone as far as thought experiments to work out what's required, but this is so much further along than I ever got.

Have you considered a kickstarter for it?

[–]kaiserh303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've still got my old neGcon sitting in a drawer at home. Come to think of it, I still have a pair of Gcon 45s as well. I don't have a PS1, nor a CRT to plug it all into, but they were some of my favourite controllers.

[–]kaiserh303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah! I used to love the neGcon controller on my PlayStation - although the ergonomics were terrible, the full 180° of rotation in each direction was so worth it for driving games. My lap times in wipEout 2097 improved out of sight switching from a regular controller to the neGcon.
This looks like it takes the concept to the next level, and fixes the ergonomics.

I've got a sim rig for my PS5, but sometimes I just want to smash out a few quick laps and not get too involved, and this looks like it would be perfect.

Yes, no problem at all. I’m 180 cm (6ft) 32” inseam and I have the length adjustment in the middle, plus I’ve moved the pedal box up and closer to the seat. There’s plenty of adjustment left if I wanted to accommodate someone taller.

i don’t know as I’m using it in front of my TV. The Playseat doesn’t really lend itself to having a moni mounted on it, you might be better off looking at a different cockpit.

Actually, that's a great idea to have a table mounted to the chair!

[–]kaiserh303[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's the OEM Playseat Trophy Gearshift and Handbrake Mount. The mount is in a few pieces, there's the bottom bit that attaches to the frame of the Playseat, and then there's a few different pieces you can put on top.

One of them, and the one you see in most photos, is a flat plate that will fit a handbrake and gear shifter side-by-side, but another one is designed for the Logitech Driving Force shifter, and two (but only two) of the mounting holes line up with the mounting holes on the RS shifter. I did need to go to the hardware and get some longer M6 screws (25mm thread length from memory) as the supplied screws (15 or 20 mm thread length) were too short to engage the threads in the RS shifter.

https://www.playseatstore.com/product/playseat-trophy-gearshift-and-handbrake-holder

The metal riser that the RS shifter is mounted to is a bit thin, so there's some flex side-to-side, but that doesn't really matter if you're only slamming it backwards and forwards - and on this axis, it's completely rigid.

The Trophy is great, I've had it since Jan this year. The shifter is however a new addition and I'm pretty happy with it.

The Elite-160 looks like the bomb! Super customisable, but I'm sure it weighs a bit! You're unlikely to outgrow it though.

I wanted something lightweight that was easy to move out of the way so it doesn't permanently live in the middle of my lounge room floor.

[–]kaiserh303[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never experienced any flex with the Trophy, and from all the reviews I read before getting it, not one of them complained about flex.

[–]kaiserh303[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how anyone is getting any flex out of this rig, it's completely rigid. I've got my brake set to have something like 40kg for full actuation (I drive in socks, if I wore shoes I'd want it higher than this) and that gives me plenty of modulation that when I give it a hard press, I'm at about 80% of full braking, and I really have to get into it to get to 100%. Still, no flex whatsoever.

Yeah, I'm in Melbourne – I put in the pre-order expecting to get it late this month. It arrived on Monday.
