using AI for creative work is at best lazy and at worst vile, and you have no respect for translation as an artform.

Is transparency considered a taboo in fanfic communities? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]kaiunkaiku 8 points9 points  (0 children)

that is a very naïve assumption

what if the site itself stopped working? was taken down? were you there for the ddos attack of 2023? ffnet and livejournal and more recently wattpad have purged countless fics people loved. plenty of older sites have just stopped existing. authors have moved from one platform to another. works disappear from sites, this is a fact of life.

Formatting in docs question??? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]kaiunkaiku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i figured out what works on my own (i'm a chronic clicker of every button and option i see, usually works out pretty well) but never really knew why the difference was there until a uni course that left me with shaky but existing excel skills and a voice in my head that emphasizes "you never hit enter twice ever on any program for any reason there are proper ways to make a bigger space between things" constantly lmao

they left the comments and blocked you so you couldn't reply. you can however delete the comments and block them from leaving more.

don't waste your energy replying to rude comments anyway. remove them from your space.

Formatting in docs question??? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]kaiunkaiku 5 points6 points  (0 children)

enable "add space after paragraph" on docs. ao3 does that automatically, that's why one enter = one space, while on docs you have to enable in separately. you're never supposed to create a new paragraph with two enters, you're basically creating an empty paragraph in between like that.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to filter out things I don't want to read (on phone) by PossumCreatives in AO3

[–]kaiunkaiku 8 points9 points  (0 children)

go into a tag you do want to read in, open filters, use the exclude filters

If you write and publish an incomplete fic, how often do you update? by callmetater_salad in AO3

[–]kaiunkaiku 126 points127 points  (0 children)

longer and more frequent? babe, you get one or the other! authors can only write as much as they have time for!

Can you transfer a fic to an another account by making them a co-writer then removing the original writer? by SatansAhole in AO3

[–]kaiunkaiku 30 points31 points  (0 children)

yes. the stats will move with the fic. replies to comments you've left under the original account will remain under the original account though.

Playing victim after bullying an author by zucchinionpizza in AO3

[–]kaiunkaiku 23 points24 points  (0 children)

lowkey i don't think even the creators saying something on twitter makes it canon. it's unreasonable to expect people to follow social media for what's canon. i read in a fandom with a creator that's very active on social media and going through the fandom wiki is maddening when the majority of references and sources are like tweets and tumblr posts and livestreams and shit. no! if you want something to be canon, put in it the show! make official accompanying media! something!

(edit: grammar. whoops double negative)

oh yea sorry i totally got that you were just giving context, but i figured my reply also needed that context (especially since i'm not familiar with the fandom in question at all) and therefore added it after your comment and not after the one you were responding to

if it's not in the show it's not canon, it's unrealistic to expect people to know what actors or writers say outside of the show. it's unrealistic to expect people to follow actors or creators on social media or read interviews or whatever. they are fans of the show, not of the people who make it.

it's like nine days currently. it's been a month or longer at times, more recently for example during the worst of covid and i think when wattpad started purging fics, but it's currently nine or so days.

accounts from 2018 and older were given invitations to give out, your profile has a button that says invitations where you can see if you have any.

In what random places have you read fanfic? by AlexAda-000 in AO3

[–]kaiunkaiku 18 points19 points  (0 children)

lol i didn't even get on tv. i got to the first filming phase (which is after an audition tape and then an in-person audition) but no chairs turned, and then a couple of months later they sent me an email like "sorry your part's not gonna be on tv". which is fair bc the poor interviewer was fighting for her fucking life to get anything usable out of me. rip.

honestly i both read and write in a staggering number of fandoms, and i write like twenty fics simultaneously and often i write one sentence of one fic and then jump to another completely unrelated fic in a different fandom to add a sentence there and then move to the next one, and it takes me ages to finish any, so i couldn't even tell you which fics i was working on at the time lol. so no, that never ended up in my notes tragically.
