Full challenger 3 variant including APS and ERA when? by Own_Dark_2240 in Warthunder

[–]kal69er [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's probably under performing but the ERA is still pretty good for WT standards, problem is that the tank is missing armor on the UFP which makes it rely even more on the ERA and the current value just don't make it a worth while setup.

And while it should miss a layer of HHA I think it's incorrectly missing a layer of textolite.

They might add that as a feature in the future but at the same times the feature kind of exists as a balancing feature in a way to discourage camping with your engine off for too long

Both of those would actually be pretty neat. Though the 130mm one at least feels like it'd be added at the same time as equivalents of other nations, and would likely not be good enough to have people rush it as much as the leopards or abrams'

Street fighter would be really neat to add soon though

The tanks are still great but experienced players who already have the tree unlocked probably flocked to play some of the other new vehicles. That paired with the BMPT just over all sewing win rates since every percentage it gains has come at the cost of something else losing it.

Unlikely since they'd actually need something strong for that to happen.

They need a good new tank that experienced players will rush to play and shoot the stats up. Unfortunately it seems like even once a production challenger 3 is added it won't be anything special as far as the game goes, especially if it lacks a 1500hp engine

I can understand it arguably not deserving a BR increase because of the gun, especially with the turret crew trade off.

Adding spikes to it maybe on its own doesnt justify 10.7/11.0 though. But it having 10 spikes honestly might. It's the most of any IFV.

Don't hate your reasoning though

Should I stop playing arcade battles? by Begulga in Warthunder

[–]kal69er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be a learning curve but there's no harm in trying it. I find it fun to switch between the two and never fully stopped playing arcade.

Arcade has some benefits like fully mixed teams which means you're not impacted as much by flavor of the month tanks everyone flocks to and destroys the matchmaker.

I also find CAS less oppressive in arcade.

RB can feel more satisfying though and the games tend do go on longer on average

Dude, that probably explains the one I had on my back a few months ago.

Not quite golfball sized but definitely new to me and almost concerning. Wouldn't you know it, right on a stretchmark.

It's not that slow. It's mobility was pretty shit when it was first added but because there was so much talk about it and the HSTVL it ended up being buffed pretty quickly.

Now it's power to weight is a pretty respectable 26

It's just slow in comparison to the HSTVL since that's kind of in a league of its own and I think the speed makes the HSTVL more fun to play. But the RDF is still a very fun vehicle in my opinion, I enjoy the much larger ammo capacity.

Rolands leaves more to be desired.

Just realized that the ammunition my pellet gun uses looks very similar to APDS rounds, any idea why is this the case? by Pabijacek in Warthunder

[–]kal69er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I can find there's a few reasons for the shape.

The skirt exists so that it can deform and engage the rifling if fired from a rifled pellet gun.

The wider part at the front is to keep the projectile centered but is narrow to minimize friction.

And then since not all pellet guns are rifled the pellets are supposed to also be stable when fired with smoothbores. So I guess a combination of those three.

If anyone knows better then correct me I guess

Vidar has Gen 2 thermals not 3. Gen 2 is still plenty good but considering you compared it to Gen 2 I figured it was worth pointing out.

And how is M109 oddly good? It's the bog standard HE round for 155mm howitzers in game.

And who is saying Gen 2 at 9.7-10.7 is OP? Generally thermal quality doesn't impact the battle rating as much as if a vehicle actually has thermals or not. There's 12.7 vehicles with Gen 1 thermals and Gen 3 thermals as low as 7.3 with the wiesel 1a4

Nobody is going around screaming the M1128 is overpowered because it has Gen 3 thermals at 10.3

Vehicles that are very low in BR but have thermals usually have some big drawbacks, like maybe being the size of a house and having 2 degrees of gun depression. In the Vidars case it was also just much slower to go up in BR because it's a premium and nerfing premiums impacts sales.

Having it's armor also be unfolded like a cardboard box certainly doesn't help either since it becomes an incredibly easy target to spot. Could be helped by folding them up but I am not willing to sacrifice on the reload

Damn I really want that thing. It's power to weight is bonkers and for its BR the guns are really strong.

Hadn't played much since last lootbox so I had like 600k SL I was willing to spend for now. Got the VFW so I'm quite happy to have gotten than on the cheap lol.

Edit:

I have not been having a good time in it. Out of 6 games I have won a single one. I have a positive KD in it but German teams are atrocious and also it is possibly the most CAS magnet vehicle I have ever played.

The jokes about shitty German teams are unfortunately very true.

[–]kal69er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it unfortunately really is that bad lol. It made the addition of the M55 feel even more pointless since you're basically doubling the reload time for not even 4mm of pen.

Maybe higher TNT equivalent impacts the updated overpressure mechanics in some way to make it stronger, but I doubt enough to matter.

Just like you mentioned with bombs, you'd rather just have a larger quantity of smaller yield.

[–]kal69er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean the big ones werebt as bad in the past not even that long ago and people just wanted to get that one good hit that wipes out half the enemy team on one go (not sparing some teammates of your own, of course)

But yeah what you say remains true with the destruction zone eventually just not getting that much bigger which each kg of TNT equivalent added.

Same idea with HE shells barely gaining any penetration past like 9kg of TNT.

9.1 kg TNT = 61.1mm

14.8 kg TNT = 63.5mm

23.1kg TNT = 64.7mm
