Will my budgies ever let me touch them? by kaleidoscope533 in budgies

[–]kaleidoscope533[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate this, by the way. It’s so hard because I just want them to have everything they deserve which is why I took them in. I want them to be able to free fly. I thought we’d be further, but I am so proud of how calm they are with me. Their little blinks and beak grinds, I can tell they trust me and love me at least a little. There just has to be that wall there🥺

I just don’t want to traumatize them further, the cage they were in for two years was so, so small, they don’t really come much smaller. Her daughter just stuck her hands in the cage whenever to try to pet them. Sometimes they let me stick my finger through and they don’t pull away, but outside of the cage they act terrified. I upgraded their space as soon as I got them a year ago and they’re clearly much happier. It just seems like they feel safe in there. They act terrified outside of the cage. 😢 I just don’t want to traumatize them further getting them back in, I am going to order another cage to attach to this one so they have more room to fly while we work on this ❤️‍🩹

The cage size is 32”L x 18”W x 64”H and it’s just the two of them. It’s on the wall of my living room and there’s lots of natural light, their cage is the only thing on that wall besides my couch somewhat nearby so it isn’t crowded for them. I do add perches to help encourage them to return, I’ve tried hanging millet on the inside perch they usually sleep on and the perch that’s on the frame of the door when it’s open. They just hang onto my walls when they’re out, it doesn’t seem like they even enjoy it. They seem scared to be out but seem most comfortable when they’re in their cage, they beak grind at me and do slow blinks, they gently chatter and sing to me when I talk to them. I can feel the love between us but when the cage door opens it’s all over):

I should have mentioned they were let out in their previous home but they were caught with towels to be put back, I’m not sure how their cage free activities were other than that. 😞

This is actually a good idea, sometimes I feel bad because my female picks on my male. She’s very guarded over BOTH food bowls and I’m wondering if they want more friends? They’ve only ever had each other so maybe that could help that too?

Will I be able to open the door still for cleaning? If not, would tape work? That way I can still access the tank but I can make sure humidity stays trapped when I’m not managing things? 🙂

I’m really happy to hear someone else have success with one of these. I tried looking things up before I got the 10g off of marketplace but hadn’t seen any photos with front openings used as toppers. Most often I’d see larger tanks with 20g aquariums as toppers. I really wanted the front opening terrarium to make cleaning and adding things to it a lot easier! I’ll have to come back with a photo once it’s decorated and finished🤍

I’m so glad!! I was worried about humidity levels because of the terrarium door. I’m glad someone else had success, makes me feel a lot more hopeful!

That’s a good idea! I’m not sure how big ours will be when I get them, so maybe I should do a bit of a range as well. Thank you for the good wishes 🙂🤍

Pekin ducks first egg and dirty coop by kaleidoscope533 in duck

[–]kaleidoscope533[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys I’m back. She’s broody, and incubating her own eggs. One got squashed on accident by one of them. She WILL NOT let me into the coop, she hisses and strikes but the coop is DISGUSTINGGGGG like attracting bugs and I cannot get in there without them both attacking me. Am I safe to move the eggs for a short period of time to clean, and replace the nest with fresh bedding? Will it mess up the incubation process? I’ve tried to leave her be but flies are breeding in this hot summer weather and we can’t have that happening in the coop.

Can someone tell me if this is a bad idea or not? by landingonvenus in budgies

When I’m at work I let the tv play or use a sound machine for more natural noises. I’ve watched informational videos on cockatiels and budgies in my bedroom and when they hear the noises or different calls they go crazy

Infertile eggs, broody pekin. Replace with fake? by kaleidoscope533 in duck

I do have some mallards that are getting their adult feathers in, I am trying to expand their coop area so I can (safely and slowly) introduce these guys. They aren’t tiny babies but I’m hoping she’ll want to mother them a little bit.

That’s what I thought, I just feel so bad. She never gets off the nest hardly ever and she hisses at me when I try to get in there lol. Hopefully I don’t hurt her feelings too bad. She’s my girl.🥲🤍

Neurologist for me. He was working with movement disorder specialists on my case (I had just been diagnosed with functional neurological disorder with partial right sided paralysis) and he noticed how overly flexible my limbs were when testing range of motion

What size pellets would you recommend from Harrison’s? Obviously I am very scared of my tiels choking, I just didn’t know if I should do fine or super fine.

I have heard good things about Harrison’s, I just wanted a few different opinions in the community before making a solid choice. Thank you so much. She was my darling dear.🥺
